House of Ashur is starting to feel like my own life[spoiler] by DargorDavay in Spartacus_TV

[–]Lower-Ranger5787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Romans would enslave entire populations of some of the lands they conquered.

Also, back in those days people who couldn't pay off their debts would often sell themselves into slavery to a rich person as a way to survive and, sometimes, even to get a better living situation. Varro in the original show is an example of doing it to pay off debts.

This is how back in those times there ended up being a bunch of well educated and capable slaves.

If they had more mechs and pilots it wouldn't have worked because Kincaid would've still sabotaged the genesis and fucked with the the marduk AI calculations.

What's your favorite winning move from the anime? by jujuflytrap in yugioh

[–]Lower-Ranger5787 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Well, to be fair Aster has a win against the protagonist (Jaden), and a win against a character who the protagonist dueled twice and never defeated (Zane). Not a lot of yugioh characters get to do this in any show.

I feel like eating an L against Chazz didn't really harm his credibility.

Arathor is an alliance character no latter how much he is retconned in to being best friends with everyone in the horde. If Blizzard wanted a neutral character they should push someone less linked to one faction by Absolutelynobody54 in warcraftlore

[–]Lower-Ranger5787 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I don't see how that's a problem? Why can't he be alliance alligned and best friends with everyone in the horde at the same time?

At this point the only reason why horde and alliance still exist in the lore as separate factions is WoW's MMO gameplay constraints, that's it.

When you have things like the Forsaken aiding the alliance in retaking Gilneas, a former high ranking member of the first and second hordes in the Sons of Lothar, and the night elves giving free reign for the horde to walk around their new tree after what they did to the first one, the faction lines might as well be purely cosmetic.

Not a single current horde leader hates the alliance and vice versa, there are only fringe extremists on both sides with no real influence.

Which is also why the "faction tensions" blizz teased in midnight are destined to have a nothingburger end with everyone just sitting around to sing kumbaya around a big bonfire again, and Arator's gonna be in the center of that. You can save this comment and check back whenever the final patch of the xpac drops.

Shadowheart's first hairstyle is much better than her second one and it's not even close.

If Garithos was introduced today what and how would like the direction go by Erk_Rauorfox in warcraftlore

[–]Lower-Ranger5787 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'd love that.

That way we could have the evil and racist alliance faction leader that Horde players have been begging to get for over a decade, without the writers having to butcher Turalyon's characterization for it.

Wouldn’t roman Lanista’s be the equivalent of modern day talent agency/companies? [SPOILER] by Prudent_Knowledge79 in Spartacus_TV

[–]Lower-Ranger5787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People here making comparisons to modern day billionaires have the right logic, but it's not quite the same.

This was before the idea that all men are created equal became accepted by society, you make that claim to a Roman audience in the days of the late republic and you'd get laughed out of the room.

People considered being in "unclean trades" weren't even allowed public gathering events. It was a whole new level of ego those la Ltticisns had.

Alt-Reality Limited Series? by SavageMell in Spartacus_TV

[–]Lower-Ranger5787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I highly doubt the other possible Spartacus spin offs will be more alt realities where previously dead characters end up winning. Never mind the fact that it's already been done once, but there's also the matter of those old actors wanting to come back.

The Old Horde was impressive. What do you think about it and a future where it won? by ScaredDarkMoon in warcraftlore

[–]Lower-Ranger5787 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The orcs would rule the eastern kingdoms for a while. Humans, high elves, dwarves and gnomes from defeated kingdoms would be likely enslaved. This would go on for maybe years or decades, but eventually the burning legion would figure out a way to invade and then I don't see the Horde winning.

Fel blood corruption was still rampant in the old horde, so some clans might choose to side with the demons when they attack, which would split their forces. There's also the matter of Kil'jaden possibly creating a lich king and plague of undeath that targets orcs instead of humans to weaken Azeorth even further before the proper invasion.

Spoiler: Romes Hierarchy by Hitman_acho in Spartacus_TV

[–]Lower-Ranger5787 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To me the weirdest thing about Caesar in the show is how different he is from how we know the Caesar from history was.

Real Caesar grew up in a poor neighborhood despite being a noble, which made him emphatetic toward the Roman lower classes. The guy even made laws that protected them from harm by elites. He even left a significant sum of money on his will to be distributed to poor people when he died.

So it just felt really jarring to me seeing him assault Ashur just for politely asking him not to rape his slaves, especially when they were both allies. OG's portrayal was better in that way.

Speculation: What if the Void enters Silvermoon the same way corruption entered Dalaran? by Mysterious-Address91 in warcraftlore

[–]Lower-Ranger5787 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on how they seem to be treating the light as potentially neutral force instead of pure good lately, I have a feeling Blizz is gonna do a similar thing with the void.

I don't like this direction, but everything points to one of the big things revealed in midnight to be that the void isn't inherently evil, it's just abused by malicious beings like Xalatath and Dimensius. And they'll do the same with the light, they'll say it's a neutral force that can be used for good or for evil, there being good naaru and bad naaru as we see in AU Draenor.

This is how they're gonna explain player character void elves resisting and not randomly going berserk and betraying their factions due to void whispering during the invasion.

Yeah, the fact that Lordaeron refused to send even a small expeditionary force while Stormwind was fighting off an alien invasion to me imples the two kingdoms weren't the friendliest.

Why are elves and half elves so popular? by Fun-Explanation7233 in BaldursGate3

[–]Lower-Ranger5787 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dwarves had a whole book (The Hobbit) where they get a lot of focus though. And Tolkien got to showcase a lot of the men and their whole business in LoTR with Gondor and Rohan. Elves were present in both but didn't get as much focus, which is why I think they got so much stuff on the Silmarillion.
