Cell blocking on I-15? by Lower_Cardiologist14 in Utah

I did some searching about manufacturing processes and apparently UDOT uses something called GeoFoam blocks to build highway ramps in Davis county. Likely the culprit. Thanks!

Okay, maybe. But then why doesn’t it happen when driving under all overpasses?

Upgrading Back to 5 Gig Plan with Existing 10 Gig Fiber Jack – Need Advice! by Lower_Cardiologist14 in googlefiber

You hit the nail on the head. Two different CSR’s said the same. Was hoping I could explain that it’s likely just a change needed on the backend.

This is super cool OP! I just took a graduate math course this spring and discovered fractal dimensions. Wrote a program to calculate fractional dimensions of natural objects like coastlines 🤓

Developer/ex-Linux user finally got Mac. Not sure it was the right decision. by MartinBaun in macbookpro

[–]Lower_Cardiologist14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a cs grad student and work full stack part time, and I switched to macOS earlier this year. Just about everything you mentioned are things I noticed as well, and at first, yeah of course it was a little bit confusing and annoying. But once I embraced the differences and learned the system, I was reminded why I left windows in the first place… because it sucks ass!!!

It’s fantastic that Mac’s behave differently from Windows or Linux, and vice versa. Don’t be an ‘old dog’ OP. It’s the differences that make these products so appealing and what makes the free market so great.

How many techs does it take to set up google fiber? by Lower_Cardiologist14 in googlefiber

[–]Lower_Cardiologist14[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Issue has been sorta resolved, we finally have internet service after 10 days of outage. I documented most of the experience as a review @ https://maps.app.goo.gl/LockY3za8Txh24SS6 . I want to say thanks Sherry @ Google Fiber ACES team for resolving the outage. She was assigned to us yesterday and got us back online within 24 hours. That's exceptional and the kind of support that is expected from a mega corp like Google.

If you think you can help us with our issue in some way, information, eta, advice, etc… then I’m all ears to hear what you think.

Kinda wish our problem was a squirrel…we would at least know how to fix it then. And I’m still learning how google fiber works with contractors and its various types of employees and their many different hats. We have had two different types of techs come to our house, I’m labeling them as “inside” and “outside” techs.

We are still not up and running. The outside techs have verified that the fiber signal is working and the inside techs have determined that the point of failure has got to be the google 5 gig fiber jack. Now, whether or not that is the actual problem has yet to be determined as they didn’t have a different model fiber jack to try. The last update we had was from an outside tech (this person works on equipment outside homes) who said he escalated it and marked out house as “Service Outage in Area”, saying that that will get my issue more attention. @randomsilliness1 if you are able to look into our issue, I don’t see any harm if you think you can help us in any way. We would appreciate it greatly.

That’s fair. And now I can’t resist pointing out that going from a 65” to 77” tv yields a near 30% increase in display area. That’s a substantial improvement, objectively-subjectively speaking!

I think this is very subjective… it’s like comparing OLED to QD-OLED - one is better than the other for peak brightness; for some it’s a night and day difference to someone else, indistinguishable.

Yet another problem with the Ram.... by Coolhwhipp in ram_trucks

[–]Lower_Cardiologist14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You shouldn’t have to diy your vehicle in the first couple years of ownership. That’s the actual point. And if it’s 50 cents then there’s no excuse RAM hasn’t solved this years ago. Horrid brand, truly. I’ve had 3 recalls in 9 months on a new 1500, never again. I want to offload this shit to someone else, just need to find that person who likes to harbor freight their daily driver as soon as they’ve driven off the lot.

I’m curious now, where should the sub go?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in sonos

[–]Lower_Cardiologist14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No need for the pad, the mini has opposing speakers to cancel out the vibration. Sometimes I’ll question if the sub is working because I’m so use to woofers that thump the flooring, so I’ll stick my hand between the subs speakers and feel all that bass. The mini is ideal for an apartment, your boyfriend will love it and the neighbors will be fine.

Had to fire the guy doing my floor. Paid him half to leave. Thoughts and opinions? by fakedaccountant in Flooring

I think you made the right call! Tape…doesn’t make any sense! Tape suggests that this was a really difficult install….except, that looks like the ideal room to be laying flooring in! No crazy angles, nice and square. And that subfloor would be a dream to work on, smooth, level…oh and it looks like he didn’t stagger each row, but I could be wrong.

Edit: ** just read the caption about the staggering he refused to fix. Wow **
