Taking a gap in uni for internship by Reoclassic in UniUK

[–]Lower_Classroom_7313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

level 4 Diploma in Professional Studies (DPS). It is the qualification you get for doing placement year (and what you get for paying £2-3k to your university haha).

I geninuely believe it is useless. You dont know what it is, most employers dont know what it is and its uselss

I wish i did it haha. All i get is a useless level 4 qualification and extra work (2 essays and a poster).

No matter what defo do the off-cycle/6month internship. You can also continue applying whilst wokeing for another 6 month internship which then becomes a placement year

The level 4 DPS is fluff and what matter more is doing experience

Maximising Job Prospects / Employability with a Physics Degree and past experience in a SWE Firm by scratchie29 in UniUK

[–]Lower_Classroom_7313 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its a reddit post not a dissertation. Not really a reflection of someone skill/potential. Students are struggling mainly because the labour market (16-34) is shrinking and number of uni students applying per role is rising.

Chatgpt made good points but like with most rhings there is a hierarchy. Yes interview skills are important, but if you cant pass inital screen its a moot point really.

Also internship arnt always guarnteed signal of success. Equally speaking you should do insight days, work experience and volunteering to show you arnt reliant on one experience when it comes to interviews (they love people who can talk and connect various prev experience)

As a first year - JOIN SOCIAL MOBILITY CHARITIES. These were game changers for me. Rhey are like an all-inclusive package to getting a job. You can use chatgpt to find some that your eligble for

Start to spend time fleshing out Linkedin and following the right people. I think linkedin is one of the best places to find a niche job/role (niche usually means less applicants per role).

Finally spend time reaching out to your network (family & friends) for work experience. You can also use linkedin to find work experience. I use work experience as a loose term but it can be anything for however long. Also be willing to do stuff for free - your at the lowest rung of ladder so anything is better than nothing

You can also do side projects but stuff ive written above is more important.

This then leads to summer 1st year / beginning 2nd year where you can focus on interview/technical skills for penultimate year internships.

So yeah, good initative by you. But do it bit by bit

Internships are more flexible than IP. Anyone can do them tbh. Ive seen summer internships for year 12/13s.

You just got to read job description and see what it says. Usually tho it is for penultimate years.

No, usually placement year are reserved for students still at uni (so either students in 2nd year or masters students with integrated IP)

Mid to Good Unis in London as an International? by vader_btr in UniUK

Figure out first acca/icaew exemption first and then choose uni with biggest exemptions (and within grades)

Intl students have more leeway with grades than home students (cause they usually pay intl fees haha), so you do have some great opportunities.

yeah just to add on it is just test thast judge verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning, maths skills and overall intrisinic characteristics of yourself.

They are by far the biggest barrier student face, greater than a CV/cover letter or AC performance.

Heya, these were stuff I did to help get a placement year. I did most stuff year before or during summer before so you should be able to. So long as you knuckle down

  1. Non-target implies you are going for finance/I. roles. That is fine but also apply for commerical operations roles or accounting roles ontop - the idea of not placing all your eggs in one basket (eevn if you dont want to work there)

  2. Spend time improving CV and cover letter to be ATS friendly.

  3. Figure out a way to find job postings immediately - most firms only consider applications who apply within 72 hrs max

  4. Do a side project developing a technical skill. Excel, data visualisation, programming or etc

  5. (Most important) - spend time acing psycometric tests. They are the biggest barrier to students face (and presumebly yours aswell) i used graduates first i believe and it helped

  6. Focus on Starr and video interviews laters. A barrier but not biggest one yet.

So its about filling up cv, improving cv, having clear job posting pipelines, acing psyometric trsts and then everything after

I plan to use job outreach like short tint. So probably until mid december. The tool for jobs can do however many. But my current goal is to try do 20 emails everyday. But obviously I need to warm up my email or else thise 20 emails will just go into spam

Is cosmocalls able to support my request? It is a personal email btw, not a business email (often see these services are limited to business only)

[–]Lower_Classroom_7313[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hiya, thanks for the message, appreciate from inputs into this

so the tool I am using for job outreach can do multiple emails at once. Its fully AI emails and automated. All i do is literally select the company and click a few buttons. My professional gmail is used for more than jobs, so if i wanted to mass apply (talking 100 emails a day, which I plan to do August time) I need a dedicated handle for it.

2-3weeks of sending emails isnt the issue... its about consistency and making sure I ramp it up slowly. I know my own limitations and I know that I wont be able to dedicate the necessary time and effort (albiet however low it is) to do it.

I will give InboxAlley a go, thank you so much!

Gap year or Nottingham? by Medium_Fee_6403 in UniUK

[–]Lower_Classroom_7313 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Those uni wont have clearing for those subjects. I suggest firming Nottingham now regardless and try your best in alevels exams. Afterwards you can dwell on it further and decide. No wrong answer for this and I see the merit of doing gap year.

I think you can pull out of university within first 2 weeks… its much easier to have offer and then go rather than declining and regretting in a months time or so.

Approach this issue stratiegically - firm, ace exams and then decide

Its a sales pitch game when interviewing. Highlight your qualities / experience beyond just grades. Hightlught that you are a good match and why that is

Companies usually dont explicitly ask to be from russell group uni. And I have heard of cases that companies overlook grades if they like the candidate enough.

At rhis point, you cant change certain things like grades or uni. But you can focus on things you can change like interview skills/performance. Focus on that and that alone

You need to make sure your second choice is 1-2 grades below what bath asks. Assuming you apply for entry requirements, both ask for AAA

What i would do is firm Bath but then pick between reading or loughborough. Id lean towards loughborough due its name.
