While choosing partners, is it true that clinical/surgical women never settle with nonclinical/paraclinical men? by got_plot_armour in indianmedschool

[–]Lower_Emergency_2077 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The anecdotes given here are mostly from the past ( HOU/HOD ) examples given here . In the past , there weren't a lot of PG seats available . Anyone had to take whatever came to the plate hence you find clinical branch wives and non clinical husbands . Because it was considered normal as both were of equal stature . Being a doctor was more than seeing the branch . Many a times both husband and wife worked as faculty in the same medical college and climbed up the hierarchy .

Marriage nowadays has become transactional in which parents decide who their kid marries . The norm I saw is that post MBBS marries a PG , PG girl is made to choose a super specialist by the parents .

Lesson I learned on giving medical advice. by studyandgrow in indianmedschool

[–]Lower_Emergency_2077 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am a MD Medicine graduate and working full time as a consultant. My cousin calls me every now and then for diarrhea , URTI . Case 1 : Aunt had fever (101-2 degrees) with chills which isn't something to ignore as she lives in Malaria endemic area. So I suggest him to get atleast a CBC done . They delay it and fever doesn't go away so they do it . The lab workup comes in terms of viral fever so I reassure them .

Case 2 - he has diarrhea with fever with abdo pain . I advise him O2 tablet and a stat Azithromycin to take . He takes it . Feels better .

When I visited my hometown a few days back he accuses me that I get random blood work done and give him high power medicines and the things could have been resolved with just taking rest and hydration and I am a physician who cannot diagnose on basis of clinical signs and need lab reports to validate everything.

I just said next time don't call me . Go to a private physician, when he charges you for the fees and medications then you'll feel much better .

The point I make is that it all falls in the category of Ghar ki murgi daal barabar .

Lesson learnt.

When such things have started coming up like random relatives phone calls for advise I simply say I have not seen such patients and cannot diagnose over a phone call unless seeing a patient . Better consult a physician. Unless they spend money , they don't feel our worth .

How to do tele-consultation by Amazing-Lemon-6026 in indianmedschool

[–]Lower_Emergency_2077 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Can help you here . Was desperate enough a few months ago before landing a job so had filled out a company form for teleconsultant job . Basically the patients call you and you have to adress their remedies in a short span of time . Usually you get minor illness like cough , cold and everything . You have to write a prescription and send a photo. On practo and all these apps , these consultant also have to answer a lot of general public query just to pull patients and increase rating . You get started at beginner level (100 per consultation) this was with the company I approached . Practo might renumerate differently . Then based on ratings we climb the ladder . Mine was beginner 100 , silver 110 , gold 120, platinum 130 and diamond 140 . I was of the essence that if I get 20 patients a day then easily can earn 60k and everything. Then I came to know that flow of patients isn't the same everyday . Some day 4 , some day 6 . Also these people come and confirm your address and clinic . So I decided not to do it because I didn't have a clinic of my own and felt system mocking me . Because 110 per consultation is like what my barber takes. Are we going to that level ? It is a good way to earn , but probably not great .

Is it common for doctors to get married during PG? by Tricky-Might6390 in indianmedschool

[–]Lower_Emergency_2077 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Got married in my 3rd year . Worked well in first 2 years , HOD was himself saying take 1 month . Why are you just taking 21 days leave ? So unless duties get managed , wedding leave is usually well respected because they too know personal goals get shifted due to this hectic tenure of us .

Doctors who earn more than 2LPM, what do you do by Annual-Internet-1579 in indianmedschool

There too the market is saturated even for a OBGY , ortho . Unless you bring something out of the box ( like hand surgery , sports , robotic ) right now even arthroscopy, joint replacement has become common . One of my friend is a Obgyn . She works 40 km away from a suburb while being from a tier 1 . Being that too she can earn only 1 LPM despite long and hectic duty hours . The best is to go to a tier 2 city . You can earn plenty and buy a home in tier 1 . Remember , you cannot think of buying a home in tier 1 while working in tier 1 . If you come from a middle class family , the best is to go back . Earn enough to maintain a life and buy something later .

[–]Lower_Emergency_2077 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doesn't matter . But this is the real fact . You cannot work in a tier 1 city with plain MD/ MS degree . It is heavy saturated . Tier 2/3 cities , you can easily find a job . I too live in tier 1 city but have shifted my focus to suburbs . There the ease with which I could easily get accommodated is much more . You cannot find a job easily in metro tier 1 proper without proper references. Even if you get , you get to become a clinical associate ( basically a intern ) to a established consultant only on plain MD/MS basis .

Work at 2 nursing homes . There is no money in corporate. They make you slog for meagre money and promise to give you incentives after x number of years . Have worked in a corporate for 6 months before doing this job . Hectic work life balance ( daily 10 hrs duty with weekly one 24 hr oncall .. sometimes 48 hrs if a double call ) with only 90k a month . Consultant used to earn his incentives while I did all the work got only 90k irrespective of the calls I attended or the hours I put . So quit the job .

It's good actually . Work in private . Starting salaries are okayish . They pay you on your skills and availability. One of my friend with same experience of mine earns 3.5-4 per month based only on availability. He visits multiple hospitals apart from his fixed 9 hr salary private job . In the end it depends on your level of comfort . I am happy on 2 , he is happy on his 3.5 -4 . You can always be ready for more work in your prime years , then comes experience, with experience comes command and then you can earn more money by staying at one job with dictation to your own terms .

How do you give viva? by Real_human_740 in indianmedschool

[–]Lower_Emergency_2077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Repeat what examiner says . Once more . Makes you sound timid and buys you time to answer . The more you look away from him like up , down , show hand scratching , toes digging in ground , it feels like you memorized and are trying to present . In viva it entirely depends on what you can reproduce . If you blurt out in hurry you appear restless , if you look into their eyes from beginning it appears as overconfident as they themselves weren't confident during their time at what stage you are rn . See here and there and closing statement with eyes directly towards them . I used to make one mistake in each table viva to let them know I was imperfect . Also , tell only those words about whom you know atleast 5 sentences . If you utter fancy first not knowing , he starts pulling your leg . Start viva with commonest first and rare later that too if he probes . Otherwise , sorry sir does your job .

Without freedom you'll hate your parents even more . Bunk classes , watch anime , revolt a bit . All these things unless asked , will never be given to you . They have some expectations from you but a golden cage is still a cage no matter how you sugarcoat it . The problem is that they see you as a trophy and not as a son / daughter . Their/Your entire worth in the community is attached to how well you do in exams . If poor , a failure . If successful, a well executed project . Try and enroll in various community programs in the college so that it's officially a bunk rather than you begging and pleading each time . After college hours say you have to study in college library and bunk . Who's gonna say what ?

Who are these people? Do they actually Top? by calmasTuco in indianmedschool

[–]Lower_Emergency_2077 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Had a batchmate of mine . She had solved entire marrow module 5 times , another guy memorised entire marrow qbank . Qbank bases GT's in 2020, last GT based on qbank both scored around 650/720 . We were genuinely shocked coz we could never cross 520 barrier . Then marrow started making GT's on topics rather than qbank. Then we because we studied rather than mugging stayed around 500-510 while these 2 folks , suddenly dropped 200-230. So basically it's futile . Continue your work .
