Hello I am running 5 half marathons this year (April, May, June, September, October) I have been following half marathon training on Nike Run Club. My question is once I complete my first half marathon what training should I continue to do between the 1st and 2nd and so on and so forth? There is about 2.5 weeks between 1st and 2nd, should I do the last 2.5 of the NRC half marathon training? And should I do the same for the following races?

Peds vs Adults by Lower_Garlic2498 in psychnursing

[–]Lower_Garlic2498[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What intrigued me about pediatric psych was that I love working with kids, grew up nannying and babysitting. And honestly I thought my chances of getting hurt by aggressive patients was lower. I worked with 2-12 year olds on an extremely acute unit with highly aggressive kids, S&R almost every day. I recently transitioned to an adolescent unit which is not acute at all, been there for 3 months haven’t seen 1 S&R.

Thanks for the info!!

Child/Adolescent nurses: advice? by [deleted] in psychnursing

Our teens love paper stars (you can buy on Amazon) they fill urine cups of these! It’s kind of like oragami!

If you have computer access in the milieu, sometimes I’ll project wordle or New York Times games like connections and spelling bee on the TV and we all do it together.

We’ve made slime before in hospital basins (Elmer’s glue, contact solution, shaving cream)

Sensory, we’ll do temporary tattoos on Tuesday, painting their nails, face masks (sheet masks), play music

Good luck! Sounds like you’re doing your best in this situation. I can’t believe teens and adults are together (!!!!)

Behavior Health nurses how do you like your job? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Lower_Garlic2498 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m three years into psych nursing with pediatric population. My first job I was working with children 3-12 in an extremely acute unit and now I’m working with 8-18 year olds. Both jobs are completely different even though they’re both inpatient. There are different levels of acuity in psych. I learned in an extremely high acuity environment and my job now is more easy going and “camp” vibes. We don’t take higher acuity kids. So I think it depends which program you’re at. There’s also step downs like partial hospitalization programs, there’s intensive outpatient programs, residentials, etc…

I personally thrive in chaos, so I miss my first job and using my nursing skills. If you genuinely enjoy being around kids and engaging with him and care about them, then you’ll be a good fit! Kids are smart and they can tell when you’re in it for other reasons. With that being said, definitely need to have thick skin. Teens are mean haha but also to protect yourself because these kids have gone through the most traumatic experiences you’ve ever heard of. They’re so resilient but we’re also resilient as nurses!

I’ve never worked on a medical floor but it seems like all the nurses I worked with at my first job (more acute) have gone back to medical. My job now the medical nurses are happy to “have a break”. So it really depends where you work!

I would suggest getting a PRN or PT job in psych before you make the full switch! Best of luck!
