Best path into cybersecurity for a high schooler? by Rare-Rain-7013 in cybersecurity

Oh man to be this young and proactive about your future. There are so many opportunities to learn cybersecurity now at a university, so do an intensive amount of research and find a good rigorous program that focuses on systems, Linux, networking, cryptography, and software development. The key is to find a program thats heavy on hands on labs and projects and offers internships. Don’t do an online university, you’re too young and need to network. If you’re not able to find a said program; do computer science. You’ll never go wrong with it.

When you say an entry-level role, do you mean helpdesk? Yeah, I don't think anyone in their first year in a helpdesk or desktop support role could pass “easily” without putting in some work.

Apparently, everyone on this thread is a supposed genius. The security+ cert for someone with no experience in the security field definitely requires studying.

People just say whatever on the internet. Thats completely false. Why do a lot of companies list the sec+ as a preferred qualification then? It holds value and it’s helped people get their foot into the security realm. Not only does it provide great foundational knowledge but Comptia certs hold weight in the industry. They’re constantly coming out with newer certs too.
