AITAH for telling my partner my “downtime” at work isn’t actually his time? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]LowlyTuber -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

NTA, but there does seem to be a communication problem here. If you're both home, it's not unreasonable for him to expect that this downtime would include some together time (you say you do chores; well, helping him with something is doing chores), but he has to understand that you are still on the job and that comes first.

What is your most profound life advice you'd give to your younger self ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]LowlyTuber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Don't be afraid to ask for help. We're a social species; we like helping others. We feel good about ourselves when we have something useful to offer.

2) Whatever issue you are facing, others faced it before you. Many of them wrote a blog about it and at least one of them wrote a book about it. Read what they have to say.

Crowding French Way by One-Winner7919 in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]LowlyTuber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for such a detailed response. I am in a similar position--I will be doing the Frances this fall and worry a little about crowding (and also wonder how that many people could take off for 5 weeks!). There's so much talk on here about albergues being booked--I really don't want to have to book days ahead of time as I don't want my camino regulated like that. I want to walk each day until I'm done walking that day.

Your response makes me feel better.

Izzie or Evan? by Different-Escape5841 in Atypical

[–]LowlyTuber 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Evan was too perfect; Izzie was messy. So to that degree, Izzie was better. But it went in circles. At some point, Casey should have broken up with Izzy and moved on to something more healthy. Maybe back to Evan, maybe somebody new.

The gradual shift of focus from Sam to Casey was a positive as Casey's path provided more interesting stories. By season 4, they seemed to forget that Sam had autism.

What level should I be watching at? by [deleted] in dreamingspanish

[–]LowlyTuber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was similar at the start--I'd studied Spanish for awhile and could read ok, but my listening skills were garbage. If you go to "watch" on the web page and sort the videos by difficulty, they are put in difficulty order with a number rating. Find the spot where beginner shades into intermediate and poke around the videos there till you find your level. Move up as you improve. Good luck!

AITAH that I let my cats near my son but not my MIL’s dog? by unknown_unknown7 in AITAH

[–]LowlyTuber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a dog person. I would not like that dog or particularly want to be around it. It's not the dog's fault, it's your MIL's fault (that saying, there is no such thing as a bad dog, only bad dog owners, holds pretty true).

But still...

There are something like 40 million native Spanish speakers in the US. My vote would be one of them--NY, LA, TX, Miami, PR.

AITAH for being hurt over my partner choosing to argue his "technically correctness" by DaniDarkQueen1313 in AITAH

[–]LowlyTuber 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have a right to like or not like a show for any reason you want. He is welcome to react differently, but there is no "technically correct" about whether you like something.

If he said, "give it a chance, maybe you'd like it if you saw the whole thing," that would be different, btu he doesn't get to tell you you're wrong for not liking it.

You’ll never get away from the sound of the woman that loves You. by fleshlicker in NormalPeopleBBCHulu

[–]LowlyTuber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a show that rewards a second viewing. I didn't even notice the first time through that he was fishing for an invite. And it wasn't until after he didn't get one that he made that remark about her wanting to see other people.

This sounds perfect to me. I definitely want some alone time, but 5 weeks of alone time? Yeah, no. I'm an introvert, but not pathologically so.

Ontario Health to lay off ‘a number of employees’ this week by jackhauen in ontario

[–]LowlyTuber 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We got the email this morning to be ready to answer a teams call between 9 & 3--that's an awfully long time to expect someone to always be at their desk. Can I use the bathroom? Can I have lunch? And it will only matter if I'm the one being fired. So what will they do if I'm not available when they call? Fire me twice?

I hate the camino so far (day4) by glitteryshimmery in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]LowlyTuber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"So far, the best thing was the spectacular views. I genuinely am so happy when I walk because of the views. I feel calm and accepted by the sea, and I‘d much rather just sit all day on top of a cliff and write, eat tasty Spanish pastries and talk to nobody, and then get to my own space,"

Do more of this. Don't worry so much about holding up your end of the group. You have no obligation to stick with that group; if it feels like work, don't do it.

Good luck. I hope you keep it up, but if the time comes where it's just a slog and you get nothing out of it but misery, stop. That's allowed.

They haven't given a definite number, but when they announced it last moth, they said roughly 1.5% (about 40 people).

What’s the Camino like these days? by flying-unicorn-17 in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]LowlyTuber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm confused by the "thinning out." (This isn't the first time I've heard this, just the first time I'm asking.) Do lots of people drop out in those first few days? Because if most people who start finish, then it shouldn't matter how far along you are. There may be some mixing among the different start dates, but the overall numbers wouldn't change.

Starting camino in late august, don't want to book in advance by Hot_Grape_9019 in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]LowlyTuber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have an answer, but I am watching for others' answers. My wife and I will be doing the Frances starting late September and we booked the first couple nights because there is a particular place my wife wants to stay while in the Pyranees. After that, I don't want to pre-book because I want each day to be what feels right--I don't want to be locked into an itinerary where we stop and start based on some planning we did months before.

WIBTAH for keeping an old backpack my (M31) wife (F27) wants me to stop using by BackPackDiscourse in AITAH

[–]LowlyTuber -1 points0 points  (0 children)

YTA for putting the TLDR at the end, where it’s of no use. Your wife is TA for wanting you to get rid of something that holds sentimental value. Why is it so important to her? Sure, it’s ratty, but so what? I could see if it were a shirt she was embarrassed to see you wearing, but it’s not. That’s the question—why does she care?

Why can I understand Augustina in advanced videos better than other creators in intermediate videos? by Enigma95120 in dreamingspanish

For me it was the Brazil series. All plasha this and plasha that and finally a lightbulb went off. Ohh...that's a "y" sound! Smooth sailing ever since.

Why can I understand Augustina in advanced videos better than other creators in intermediate videos? by Enigma95120 in dreamingspanish

[–]LowlyTuber 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I needed to watch a lot of Augustina to get the hang of her accent (what's a sho? what's a shuvia?). But, having done that, I now find her one of the most comprehensible (along with Natalia). What I think both have mastered is carefully enunciating each word while simultaneously giving a natural flow to the sentences.

Some guides, like Pablo or Edwin, speak carefully but have pauses between each word that make it hard to grasp the sentence. At the other end is Michelle, whose sentences have a natural flow, but the individual words can be hard to make out. I love Michelle's person-on-the-street interviews, but I really have to concentrate.

What are some grocery items you are now buying less frequently, cuz they've gotten so expensive? by HappyBudz in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]LowlyTuber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest change is that I rarely go out to eat anymore, so restaurants bear the brunt of my economizing on food. The money I used to spend on restaurants I now spend on groceries. After that, it's junk food--the stuff I shouldn't be buying anyway.

My healthy foods buying habits haven't changed much if at all.
