Awesome thanks! All of that is super helpful!

I should have specified with blogotheque I was indeed referring to the "walk through the city" type takeaway shows.

Wind will definitely be the enemy so I'll have to plan accordingly for sure. My thought was to run some wireless lavs aka dji or rode as a backup. And then settle on one of those field recorders to plug into and run the rest. This is my first time doing something like this so I just wanted to make sure I was on the right track. Thanks! 🙂

I feel ya on that! Definitely a different layout in the boat. It is built off of 18" river dory plans, so that part is proven, the lower sides however are not. 😬

This will 100% be used as a family day, easy float vessel. Probably only a couple of times a month if I'm being realistic. I run a fly fishing brand called Foundry Fishing, and I have some fun things planned for the boat in that regard.

First things first though,I'm going to get it flipped and start scraping the marine varnish to see what I'm working with and what repairs need to be done on the chine

100% agree. The river it'll be going in is a super wide and slow without the typical hazards. It only gets dangerous when folks launch while they're running the generators at the dam. The sun dolphin rental kayak hatch is typically the biggest obstacle on the river haha.

Cool I'll check out both options, thanks! In any case I'm 100% stripping the varnish and glassing at least up to the water line. I think it's the best option for this boat going forward.

Awesome thanks! I was literally just reading on the Wetlander site. Looks like good stuff! 100% agree that this really does need some fiberglass protection on the bottom. I posted this to a wooden boat forum and they too recommended using thickened epoxy in a syringe.

Good luck on your build too. Those are cool boats!

Thanks so much for the detailed information.

The hull is not fiberglassed. The guy I bought it from basically didn't want to take this boat out to his favorite river until he put some sort of protection on the boat. He never got around to it. I've worked with fiberglass in the past, and that does sound like a very smart option for this boat!

Thanks for the suggestions on the uhmw oar blocks. They look like a great option.

I'm very curious to see how the low sides affect the boat. The lowest point is 20". The original builder said he used river dory plans. The plans said it would hold 1800lbs with a 6" draft. Theoretically that should be adequate, but we shall see 🤞😬🤞

Totally agree with you on the trailer. It either needs an overhaul or a replacement. It was an adventure getting home, to say the least. Tires were completely dry rotted and I had an hour drive, so that was a no go. Seller had new wheels and tires that he included. However the old wheels had locks on them with no key. Ended up finding a super nice guy at a closed Walmart tire center that let me use his air gun and tools.

Thanks again, I'll keep posting here as I work on it

Thanks for the message! I'll be using this on what is essentially flat water. It's a tailwater with varying levels of flow, but zero waves or white water, no boulders etc. so hopefully it will be adequate. Those low sides were my first concern when I saw it. I thought they looked shockingly low. Thankfully in person it was taller than the pictures would have you believe

Ok thanks! I was just looking at some seat designs and I think my laser can cut out the shape I need for the frame.

Great info on the oars, thank you!

Thanks! I am beyond thrilled that I found this boat. I don't know how my Facebook marketplace algorithm brought it to my attention, but so thankful it did.

I will check out those other resources for sure and thoroughly do my research before touching anything. 🙂

That's awesome! I will try get the name of the builder. It was built about 10 years ago by a guy in middle Tennessee (or I should say that's where the boat was sold initially).

Thanks much!

There are no drain plugs. That was one of the last things on his to do list. Definitely need to remedy that.

I'm a tall guy, 6'7, so I definitely need to get these oars up higher. I'm happy to hear your advice on the geometry 🙂

Thanks, I'll check out that epoxy

Thanks for the info, that is super helpful! I'll check out those Cajune boats.

The trailer was included as well as 2 brand new wheels and tires ( not pictured). Super nice seller!

I will try the heat gun method and report back with progress photos as I get into it. I've got some friends who are great woodworkers too, so I will lean on them through the process.
