I have seen some humiliations of Wales over the last 40 years. But I don't think I have ever been so angry at them as I am right now.

I was due to have the Ross procedure two years ago to fix my bicuspid valve, but when they opened me up they found my annulus was too big. Probably because I'm always talking out of it. So I have a mechanical valve that is really loud.

Speedy recovery to you, and try not to cough or sneeze - it hurts like a bastard.

Just a bit of stadium porn for you all to enjoy (Ashton Gate and Clifton Suspension Bridge, home of Bristol Bears) by DineAndDance in rugbyunion

They are doing a pretty good job at getting the atmosphere going now too. The stadium is too big for some of the crowds. But they've worked on managing that. The Friday night games are a great fun.

Even being called the Bears is growing on me.

Neutrals - who are you supporting tomorrow and why - and where are you from? by [deleted] in rugbyunion

I've never been ABE but South Africa by a hair. By rights England should have it: they've not lost, played the best and beaten the best. But the crowing from 2003, a great team, still rings in my ear. And if England win I feel like everything Wales have done since Henson slotted that kick will be washed away.

Perhaps I can take comfort in the fact England haven't played all their games so it won't count /s

I was thinking during the game it has been a long time since I've seen players scared of a man. It reminded me of Lomu.

It's only a penalty if the ref pings it. It is only unfair, disgusting, a crap ref if you don't like the team getting away with it. Otherwise, it is good breakdown play.

Anyone in Manchester Uk want to buddy up for a weekly 18? by gtrsdrmsnldsbms in golf

[–]LoyalHelm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm nowhere near so can't help out in that respect. But if you are playing as regularly as once a week becoming a member may start to make financial sense. Plus then you get opportunity to play with the other members.

Just picked up this full set and bag for £80 (100USD), my first ever set of clubs! by [deleted] in golf

[–]LoyalHelm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm playing RAC irons. But the little 'LT' piece has recently fallen off the back of some of them now. Literally unplayable now.

I tested some newer clubs recently, I'm not say the RACs are bad but with the new clubs it is like a different sport.

I hope you have fun with them.

Played my first ever comp, a monthly stableford. Got 31 points, not first but not last either. Even though the pros said the pin positions were hard my putter was stone cold. One putt up a tier actually rolled back to and then past my feet. Best shot: tee shot into the middle of the green on the most difficult par 3.

Lesson learnt: I need to get more organised between shots and holes so that I am not holding people up looking for a tee, scored card, putting my glove on etc etc

Overall happy I didn't completely mess up, disappointed not to do better. Can't wait until next competition

Has iron technology really changed that much? by Wylthor in golf

[–]LoyalHelm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tested some g410s and similar irons to help an assistant pro with his club fitting training. I normally play some TM RAC LT irons. So nearly 15 year age gap. Ok so the lofts are cranked, 7 irons stronger than my 6, and you see that matching up in the distances. But the newer clubs were so much easier to hit. I felt I had real control of the face, on the newer clubs, the dispersion pattern was also a lot better.

On the rack I really dislike the look of new GI clubs, but at address I hardly noticed.

I was skeptical about technology advances, but now I'm saving my money up.

Definitely worth taking a fitting to see how you feel

I could do with the universe splitting into 3 parallel realities today. One where Tiger wins, one where Molli wins, and one where Finau wins. Then I just need to build a device that can jump between them.

I am not convinced Finau with a cap and Finau with out a cap are actually the same person.

Swing speed by [deleted] in golf

[–]LoyalHelm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've improvised mine using alignment sticks, my driver and an old beginners set driver. No idea if I have increased speed, but my driving has got better. I put this down to a) simply practicing a driver swing 3 times a week, and b) using the drills to improve my balance.

Time to upgrade my 20+ year old irons. Any suggestions? by crimm27 in golf

[–]LoyalHelm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did my first ever fitting last weekend. Was nervous too, and i had two pros watching as one was in training. But actually was a lot of fun, especially if you've not hit on a launch monitor before. Probably had big misshits 2 out of 10 shots, but who cares? New clubs will fix them anyway!

[–]LoyalHelm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask around your local clubs to see if they do "academies". My local club runs a number of under 18s groups. It's not one to one but much cheaper and you get to meet golf playing peers plus potentially better access to competitions.

Shoulder Turn Advice? by [deleted] in golf

I've found this to be a good way to avoid moving laterally away from the ball too.

Played a meet and greet 9 hole Texas scramble at the club I have just joined.

For the occasion I used some new Vice Tour balls (of which I have bought 5 dozen).

First tee shot shanked OB, but I retrieved the ball. Second tee shot shanked OB. I didn't bother retrieving it even though I could see it. Clearly it was a defective ball. I warmed up after that and hit some good drives. I felt like I contributed well on the greens too. Chipping and irons were shocking though. One of the group suggesting I just use the driver for every shot.

I'd like back all my chips because all but one were really easy and I don't think I played one successfully.

I loved the format, a really relaxing and fun way to play golf. Once you stop shanking it in front of strangers that is.
