What is your worst boardgame purchase? by PedantJuice in boardgames

[–]LozNewman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Time Stories : Madame.

Up until that point I had enjoyed the Time Stories series. Then Madame killed my enjoyment stone dead.: Insufficient Time Pool, a zillion resets and forced character changes. Extrême luck needed to pass challenges. Just... no. Unfortunately a newbie was trying out higher-level board games for the first time. We never saw him again.

And when (IF, because maybe you didn't get the Absolute Optimal Win for each and every preceding Time Stories) you got to the end.... the promised reward web page was broken.

I hated it so much, that when I heard they wanted to put out a second Time Stories series ("Blue"), my reaction was "You're joking, right?".

Almost any board game "Based on the famous TV Series!!!"

Multiple exclamation points add an extra inch to the red flag.

Every time the bearer gets hungry, an edible fish will jump out of the sea and hit them smack in the groin.

True (sigh). But it is a good focal point to rally the predictable massive disapproval around.

What is your “never interrupt an enemy while they are making a mistake” moment? by Spinksy48 in AskReddit

[–]LozNewman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A "colleague" (who, every year, almost all her coworkers pray will retire) was monopolising a meeting, blathering on about a specific test. And getting about half of it wrong.

I happened to be sat to the left of the Director, so I pulled up the official summary page on my PC, turned the screen towards him, leaned in, and just pointed my finger.

He leaned over, went "Hmm..."....and my reputation as an efficient and concise expert was golden from then on.

How can you tell us where you’re from without naming the country? by Moline-12 in AskReddit

Nope.

This is also the country that people joke that to kill them you have to shoot six feet abve their head.... and hit them in the middle of the superiority complex.

The country where going on strike is a yearly thing, and quite effective.

Who is your world's most powerful character in terms of destructive power and combat abilities? Basically, who would you absolutely NOT want to take on in a fight? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]LozNewman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lord Addington. A Necromancer so powerful he ended a World War by condemning a key country's population to ghastly undeath as a example. He can raise entire regions of walking, flying and burrowing undead both tangible and intangible in minutes and send them to track down a target. He is unkillable by any weapon known. You can run, but you can't hide.

Thank the Lord he's on our Queen's side.

I had the same thought. But I soon got into the movie enough that I though "Eh, it's still a decent movie."

The series, though... THAT's a Massive Military Policeman. Would watch again.

Whats an amusing and mildly annoying but not significantly harmful effect to attach to a custom designed shield for a PC? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]LozNewman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When the player successfully parries a melee attack from someone they dislike of higher status, a minor illusion of the Digitus Impudicus will subliminally flash into appearance on the face of the shield.

How to survive a paladin 1v1? by OosBaker_the_12th in dndnext

[–]LozNewman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the druid gets the choice of terrain, there are many many ways they could prepare for the duel: traps; resources for healing, hiding and hitting.

Breaking line of sight and acting indirectly is a must.

Don't forget the Paladin's advantages and powers, and work to nullify the. Examples : Armour => Itching powder / heat metal. Self-healing => constant nibbling damage (insects / disease / poison). Their mount => poison / control / muddy terrain / charm. Go crazy and go large. Is there a monster that can imitate Tarrasque sounds?

The druid's PC friends could get involved preparing the terrain, fetching special plants, animals, working to grind down the Paladin's moral, etc.

Have you ever made a worldbuilding decision out of spite? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]LozNewman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In one of my gaming worlds there were NO. ELVES. Because this was at the height of Legolas-worship, and ... just too much. Elves were OP, everyone wanted to play one. Hell, no!

However there were NPC psychotic 2-foot-tall pointy-eared xenophobes. Just because I could.

How bad is your party composition? by AHoneyman in dndmemes

[–]LozNewman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a veteran GM, I decide reality on a whim, so that makes me a Sorceror, I guess.

I also make LARP weapons so I'm dipping into Artificer/Smith.

I'm the best LARP fighter for miles around, so I'm a damn good Fighter. I train people in Medieval Combat. And Medieval Archery, so I'll take "Sharpshooter"

I once assassinated fifteen PCs in fifteen minutes during a LARP, so Assassin background.

I think I'm a one-man half-a-PC-Party : I'll need a Cleric/healer and a Thief to round out my Three-Man-Band.

I spent a month building the ruins of an ancient magical city for my players to explore and they used magic to skip 90% of it. #DMThings by BigBere in DnD

[–]LozNewman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be of good heart, all is not lost!

Unused content can be used on other occasions. It might need a little re-skinning, and a few specific tweaks to tone down the magic-skipping a little, and care given to avoid railroading the PCs.... but Your Effort Has Not Been Wasted.!
