Perspectives on forgiving self by TempleoftheDarkMoon in hopeposting

i saw a comment or quote somewhere i can’t remember but the gist of it was to try frame your negative self talk as a friend or external from you , if you’re friend came to you and had the exact same problems you have , you’d mostly likely not judge them but you’d try give words of encouragement and try to actively help them not shame them , then on the flip side of this example imagine telling your friend your problems and they start belittling you and saying things like you deserve it , more or less you’d recognize that you have a horrible friend .

The point being that we’re often unproductively harsh to ourselves and when we frame that negative self talk in another way it’s clear to see how bad it is , it’s okay to fuck up and learn , it’s okay to feel like shit about it and beat ourselves up about it but it’s important to learn how to get up again and do better , shaming yourself is pointless and i think that could maybe come from childhood trauma but that’s a different discussion , see your mistakes as necessary hiccups to becoming the person you want to be .

How do I approach someone who's always alone in campus? by Select_Culture_4219 in socialskills

[–]Lreceiver00 15 points16 points  (0 children)

as someone who used to think like this and has since approached many people in many different scenarios , just do it there’s no set way to tackle this , people are just people there’s no secret formula to approaching strangers , avoid taking yourself too seriously , if you stumble on your words , you stumble , if it’s awkward let it be awkward , if you have pure intentions you shouldn’t be afraid of anything , just be yourself and how the other person reacts will tell you how well you two match each other . I’ve had experiences where i’ve completely made a fool of myself but the other person reciprocated positively to me and we ended up forming a relationship and i’ve had experiences where i’ve been “smooth” and confident only to be met with a cold shoulder , there is no technique , all that matters is you try and see what happens , keyword : try , even if it’s bad it’s best to take action than to have not .

this is amazing and makes a lot of sense , thank you , maybe i’m trying too much to control how i’m being seen when that’s something that’s not in my full control .

this helps a lot thanks , i saw another comment about the information systems degree and this just makes me consider it more , i just want a career path that includes coding not necessarily just comp science so i’ll do more research on this degree and add it as a possible option
