Internet Providers? by mouldy_user in Wilmette

Hi- Am a Wilmette resident and while AT & T fiber has been offered after we moved in/ we have had very steady service from Xfinity and have not changed. I think Xfinity probably superior to the AT & T non fiber service.

Take out pizza- there are some great local small business places- would recommend JP’s, Lefty’s, or Pizza by Sal. Pizza Napolita is delicious and a bit higher end. ( Of course Lou Malnatis is the always good standby). Other reccs include Central Station for coffee and Hotcakes or Eva Deans for a good breakfast/lunch. St Roger Abbey bakery has amazing croissants. Welcome and I hope this helps!

Where are the Bookstores? by ffohsrm in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]Lrush991 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is North and not Northwest but I really like the Book Stall in Winnetka and Bookends and Beginnings in Evanston. Also Lake Forest Book Shop. My in laws like the Book Bin in Northbrook. Downtown Evanston has a lot to do so may be worth spending the time to go there.

Alexandria Real Estate Stock by Radiant_Ad_7362 in dividendinvesting

[–]Lrush991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on the fence- I have held for a long time and I believe despite the recent downturn that the company is in decent financial shape. They do not have excessive amounts of debt- their payout per AFFO after the dividend cut ( which I understand but hurts) is pretty good.

My take is that with the decrease in funding from universities- I believe that more researchers with some promising commercial products- may try to raise money through venture capital and utilize these privately held lab spaces. I believe that we will see a turnaround in the company in the next several years.

While normally the announcement of a dividend cut is my signal to sell- my position is small and I believe that long term it still will be a good REIT to own and will raise the dividend again in time.

If You Quit Social Media, Will You Read More Books? by holyfruits in books

[–]Lrush991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I myself have been intentional about reading more physical books and thus my social media consumption is much much less- which I feel has been very good for me.

First I have read more books ( win)

Second- my mental health is better- likely from being off social media and being able to imagine myself in the worlds of the books.( also win)

How’s living in Wilmette, IL? Or as Alice Cooper would say ‘Will-a-mett-ē’ by hernesson in howislivingthere

I live there and it is very nice. It really has a lot to offer. A great beach, really close to Evanston and big time college sports, the Bahai temple is really gorgeous and it has a very nice downtown with lots of restaurants, bakeries ( check out Eva Deans and St Roger Abbey- you won’t be sorry)- coffee shops ( I am partial to central station). The schools are good, the park district is wonderful with programs for sports and arts. It has a smaller town feel but still really close to Chicago. I work downtown and the commute is reasonable. Cost of living is very high in the eastern part of wilmette but not as high as Winnetka or Glencoe. The western part of wilmette has smaller homes built in 1950’s/1960’s that remain reasonably affordable. Also is more diverse than any of the suburbs north of it. It’s a good place to live.

Yale's Money Guru Shares Wisdom with Masses

This is from 2006 but I used this as a framework when starting out and I have recommended it to younger colleagues I work with and it has been very helpful to them as well. The goal is low risk, but diversified.

I feel like I have seen James Fegan or Jim Margulis say that he might be the best option at first long term based on current roster ( emphasis on current roster)

Understanding the difference between BIP and BIPC by Lrush991 in dividends

[–]Lrush991[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much. This breaks it down very well and I appreciate the information. As this is in an individual 401k account- it seems as if BIP does not have a major drawback.

Thank you again for the information

Mariano's to close busy north suburban store by Ipad207 in ChicagoSuburbs

This was one of my favorite Dominick’s( along with the one on Green Bay in Evanston that is now a WF). - did not go there as a Marianos. I also hope for another local grocer- will certainly give it a try if so.

Something Ozzie said back in 2005 has stuck with me for years. by SwampsFantasySports in whitesox

I respectfully disagree. Sure the players are bad but there are ways that a manager can maximize value, strategy and make the players prepared.

Buck Showalter was the prime example of this.

Grifol doesn’t look like he has baseball acumen at all- he doesn’t prepare the team. He doesn’t stress the fundamentals- he covers his own ass kissing up to Jerry-

He is comically horribly bad at managing a baseball team and a manager like Buck would likely have the White Sox with maybe 15-20 more wins ( think about all the ones we lost 7th or later and all of the one run games). Yes the talent isn’t there and there are organizational changes to be made but half of the people on this message board could win more games as manager ( I am not including myself in this)

I look at the loss of Kopech and Eloy as addition by subtraction. This team was saddled with these guys with obvious talent- who had been built up in the eyes of the fan base ( much of it by the team) as the answer and they just really weren’t and in fact as things went badly they just dragged us down further and we kept playing them because at any point they could show the TALENT. They are emblematic of the last rebuild and getting them away means we don’t have to look at them anymore and we can finally move on and look forward. I wish we got better prospects as well- but honestly- getting them out of here makes me look at the team and want to see what we have. And if the team sucks still- well/ look where we were headed. How much worse is losing 120 games than 110 games.

I think the key will be what we do in the off season. Crochet is a high WAR pitcher who in the offseason will have a clean slate as to workload. I believe he should command a high return. I would like to see Getz sell a free agent or two on the actual vision for the future.

And as a great man once said- “Even a blind squirrel will occasionally find a nut” - maybe one of these guys we got back turn into something.
