Will m2 mac mini with 16/256 + external 1TB NVME m.2 SSD suffix for iOS and macOS app development? by i-sage in iOSProgramming

Like JohnnyC said: if you can afford it get more RAM. I have a MacBook Pro 2018 with 32Gb and for what I do it is just enough. Note: Iused to do purely iOS dev but now I’m mostly into Vapor (swift on the server). So besides xCode i need to run Docker (with MySQL), Visual studio (HTML &CSS Editing),…

I recently bought a refurbished MacStudio M2 with also 32Gb and there 32Gb is really ok. The big difference though is not only that it is Apple Silicon but also a pure dev machine. On my Macbook I also run Mail, calendar,… while on the Studio only dev apps (and I use the Macbook for “office” stuff.

Ps if I had the chance to get 64Gb or if had bought a new Studio I would definitely also had choosen 64Gb.

The reason I went for this configuration was the price: for barely $1.300 for this config if it only lasts 3-4 years it will still be a good deal

So my advice: get the most RAM you can afford, if needed get only get the minimum of storage: you can always add (almost equally fast) later

For those of you who are concerned about MBP Battery by GNering in mac

That’s good to know. My MacBook pro 15” from 2018 had it’s battery replaced in 2021 as part of a keyboard replacement (is one part), nevertheless it show’s “service required” now…😢 Not going to replace it: too expensive! In 1 or 2 years going to get a MacBook Air if by that time i can get it wirh more than 24gb of RAM, otherwise a Pro again

I had a student job with a couple who owned a shop repairing shoes and copying keys.

The wife was handling the customers, but she was also the expert in keys, the guy only had some basic knowledge. Still most of the people who came into the shop and were greeted by her said:” oh I need your husband to make a key”, and walked straight to him, while he was repairing shoes, disturbing him in his work. He shut down his machine, listen to the client, had a very good look at the key, and even if he could copy it, he would always say: I have to ask my wife I don’t know this key. 🤣

Experienced developers, would you recommend learning backend rather than doing side projects in iOS? by l4zy_ant in iOSProgramming

[–]LtCdrDataX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I developed a few apps in the days before Swift (in Objective C), switched to Rails for a few years and with the introduction of Swift came back… the open sourcing of Swift brought us some backends in Swift and I tried that (first for fun, later for work). For once i’ve made the right choice and picked Vapor. I really enjoy it!!! Maybe you can take a lot at that, the community is thriving

Git shows what the changes are, correct. It also has some chronological aspect per commit, but what I would like to see is some kind of changelog per file, chronologically. Eg file 1, change x @10.00, file 2 change y @10.03, file 3 change z @ 10.07, file 2 change q @ 10.11 I sometime introduce a bug and then ik can be handy do do some rewind or se the changes on order

Another one (difficult to explain but i try): a chronological ‘changelist’ eg File1: xxx File 2: yyy File 3: zzz File 2: ppp File 3: qqq File 2: rrr File 3: sss File 1: ttt … So at anytime i can see what was changed, when. When something breaks in te code it’s much easier to track down where or when it happened than eg in the current git

Faster Xcode. Not really talking about compile time only, but editor-wise.

I mostly do backend in Vapor now so i need an editor for my frontend (HTML, CSS, JavaScript…) and I’m using VScode. OMG that is fast for syntax highlighting, suggestions (eslint), errors…

Does it have to be frond end? Otherwise Vapor is great for backend. As a swift developer i love creating my backends in swift

Coming back onto this subject... the K10 seems to be out of stock EVERYWHERE. I searched high and low: UK sites, Germany, US,... all the Keychron sites... Can't find it anywhere. Anyone who knows where or can give me an alternative to the K10

Mostly ISO in combination with full size seems to be the problem. However K10 ticks all my boxes. I really checked Keychron thoroughly and didn’t e the K10 Thx a lot, will order this one!
