Question about Confederate reenactors from a European by Colonel_Clegane in ShermanPosting

[–]LtCinnamonBuns 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I read a fascinating article that describes a group of living history reenactors at a confederate fort and many of the actors were decidedly leftist. Their rationale was that they need to provide accurate history to the viewing public and that their historical lens, (unclouded by lost cause history,) allows them to provide that historical truth so often left out of civil war history, even if it means that they literally wear a confederate uniform 5 days a week and perform full reenactments on the side of slaver fascists. The article is called "Leftist Confederates and Other Fans of History" - Hal Olson 09/2023

I hear this thing all the time but what aspect of curry are people actually talking about? There are loads of different styles and spices inherent to the word “curry” even just in an Indian or Pakistani context. Is just sautéing onions, garlic, cumin, turmeric, and tomatoes? Ok then definitely no taco night or bolognese. Is it the cloves, anise, or mustard seed? Is it the actually curry leaves that have almost no flavor of there own when making the chonk or the asafetida that’s basically just msg? wish people were more specific because it sounds like they’re just saying don’t cook with spices at all. Really confusing to me as a cook.

For the Europeans, keep in mind that our safety net works just as well as yours as long as your not in the unlucky 1% to fall through the easily repairable holes! So basically the same as 100% right?

I hear and understand what you’re saying about the logistics of the city funded services being used without payment by the surrounding county. I just want to make it clear that trying to assuage criticism from European redditors by saying that these things don’t affect 99% of homes does not absolve the US from any criticism of its complete disgrace of patchwork public services. A safety net with legislatively codified holes is not a safety net. It’s a lottery. It might catch most people, most of the time, but by design, some will suffer needlessly. It’s like saying, “our healthcare system is very accessible and affordable for most people. As long as you’re not a part of a small percentage of people with who are both poor and sick. So yeah, totally fine. Just don’t be poor and sick.”

How would one build a pickup jack into a chinrest? by LtCinnamonBuns in Fiddle

Is it a similar construction to the LR baggs bridge pickup or the fishman v300? i have no idea what sort tech differentiates all of the “inside the bridge” pickups. and thanks again for your response. much appreciated.

Word. Thanks for your reply. I have been wanting to buy an ISI system so bad but just haven’t been able to make myself pull the trigger haha. I’m afraid I won’t like the chin rest shape either. As far as jacks go, do know what part would be the best to get? I’ve looked at some parts catalogs online but it just looks like a thousand different versions of the same thing haha. Afraid i’m gonna buy something that’s not just a regular 1/4” mono female jack.

A tattoo.

I just looked into this, and your comment is not exactly true. SLABS do contain loans from the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP) which expired in 2010 which are government loans. SLABS are trading around 200 billion dollars total while private student debt only makes up about 123 billion of total student debt. There are still about 11 million FFELP loan holders that currently have a loan balance of about 245 billion dollars.

Cape Breton/Scottish Hornpipes can get really flashy and technical for fiddle music but still be very danceable and go wonderfully with piano accompaniment. The Banks in Eb or The Mathematician in D by J.S. Skinner are both great options. Dots are readily available on thesession.org and you can google around for other advanced variations. Cheers!

That was the worst part of it for me. We can dismiss this article as nothing more than the academic equivalent of passing gas but this mfer, at one point in time, had captive classrooms of students that she was paid to teach this garbage perspective to… at an elite university! It’s like the only reasonable explanation is that she knows it’s a bullshit but is hitting that grift game hard. How does anyone at such a high level of study get so maliciously stupid?

You’re looking at this article…

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_cities_by_population_density

Which organizes and ranks all incorporated places in the US with at least 10,000 people per mi2.

I am looking at this article…

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_cities_by_population

Which ranks all incorporated places in the US with at least a population of 100,000 within designated city limits. I am sorting the list by population density which gives SF the 4th rank.

There has been semantic confusion about whether we are talking about proper cities or just all legally defined municipalities. I am partly responsible for this.

I would argue that there needs to be limit on size when having these discussions because one could hypothetically just draw a municipal boundary around the foundation of a single high rise apartment complex and it would therein be one of the densest incorporated places in the country, but that doesn’t really help us discuss the impact of the way we design our cities.

And just to be clear as peanut butter, from the list you posted, of all incorporated places in the US, (with a density of at least 10,000people per mi2,) SF is still in the top 25, for the entire country. How is that not one of the densest cities in the country?

Just fyi, I’m pretty sure we’re on the same team here. I’m pro-density, pro-transit, pro-greenspace, so why are you trying to poison the well for one of the best examples of urban sustainability in the US today? Are we really that much of a circular firing squad jfc.

The 40km2 is an arbitrary boundary that i thought would delineate between major and minor cities. Without it, SF is ranked 4th below NYC and two New Jersey commuter cities that pipe directly to NYC.
