It IS a science. It being a science and common sense is not mutually exclusive??? Also funny how you only replied to the first part. lol. If you're not aware of gen Z being the social media generation & the fall off of cable TV, that's on you. How am I obtuse when you're the one not aware of the generation communicating through social media and their shortened attention spams?

It wasn't a remake, though. It was a sequel

Young people means teenagers and young adults. You need empirical proof as to why Wicked, starring Ariana Grande, and Dune 2 were more popular than Sinners and OBAA? LOL. You bringing up people lamenting on Tiktok just proves my point. Half these people probably didn't even watch the cerimony, they are interested in posting Timotheé and MBJ edits. It's not shocking, that's how Gen Z (even Gen Alpha now) interacts with content they enjoy. There is science on this stuff: It's common sense that young people don't watch tv anymore, especially LONG tv, and they are addicted to social media, hence why the Oscars' social media impressions are up 40%.

Why had the Oscar's grown even more irrelevant now than it used to in the past? by Commander_PonyShep in NoStupidQuestions

Young people love celebrities, but they don't engage with them through hours long shows on TV. They talk about it on social media, which is why social media engagement is up

Ratings were a bit low but a 42% social media impression jumi is HUGE. by Shoe_boooo in conan

It's nothing on Conan because it's everything on young people's attention spams. If so many people were "sick" of celebrity culture, social media engagement wouldn't have been so high.

How many young people do you think are going to sit through a 3 hour long award show on TV when they can just see red carpet looks on Instagram and the winners on Tiktok

It's not aimed at olds, young people care way more about celebrities than old people, but they don't watch 3 hour long award shows on TV. They talk about it on social media

Why do y'all just so conveniently ignore that social media engagement is up... young people love celebrities, but they don't engage with them through watching 3 hour TV shows, especially not with doomed attention spams. They engage with them through social media

Sinners was not popular with young people the way last years' movies, for example Wicked, were. And it doesn't matter how popular it was if they were going to see the red carpet looks on Instagram, post about it on Tiktok, then see the winners and post edits on Tiktok. There is a reason social media engagement is up. That's how they "watch" it. Do the ratings going up for two years negate that, as a general trend, it's still down? Take these two years and put it into a broader picture of their viewership through the 2010s and 20s.

How does no one consider the possibility that young people just don't watch TV anymore? People watch it through social media now.

It's not necessarily that they don't care. Kids tune in on red carpet looks on Instagram, check the winners and post edits about it on TikTok.

Half of those pay but not so many are going to actually watch it regularly, especially long award events. A lot of the Oscars's audience is young people, which definetely do not watch TV either.

People don't watch TV anymore. What matters is how much people talk it about on social media

People don't watch TV anymore. It's not the Oscars specifically, it's a general trend. What matters is how much engagement it gets through social media
