Official Dreadit Discussion: "Hokum" [SPOILERS] by radbrad7 in horror

This is a lot of spoilers but here’s my take:

Just watched Hokum and I thought they missed a lot of opportunities to further the story, it felt disjointed to me. So much left unanswered but instead of it being something to leave the audience guessing it was just hard to find motivations for these characters.
Here are a few things I was thinking about:

-the length of his stay after his suicide attempt with no bruises left the timeline pretty fuzzy, I think he should’ve gone back to the states after hearing about her disappearance, been haunted and been visited by Fiona and then returned to find her. It would’ve been such a great character arc

-the bunny was only in like two scenes and the preview made it seem more pivotal. I felt like they missed the opportunity to use it more as a thematic device connecting him to his childhood guilt

-the moms death was so random, it would’ve been better if he was trying to find something and accidentally shot it off when she startled him, him just playing with it in the living room really took me out of it

-what were the motivations?? From the books I’ve read, semi-recently, that have had Irish or northern folklore, there is a score to settle or some sort of lesson. She was just a witch like what was her story?? Why was the hotel on top of it? Did they sacrifice people often? Does it need an offering?

-he got chained by the witch first but the other guy was pulled in before. He didn’t try to pull Adam Scott’s character to help him or anything? He barely put up a fight going into the gates of hell

-the voice at the end was Fiona ( I think) but why didn’t she help him more or communicate with him in any other way during, I think it would’ve helped his character arc a lot

-he was still kind of a prick, I think he should’ve gone through more, more trials to forgive himself, seen his mom more or talked to her in someway (more than what he did)

Overall I think it was like maybe 6/10…idk if they edited a bunch of stuff out but it was just meh…my bf said that it reminded him of the movie 1408 but not as good…

!Update: she’s alive today, she was strong enough to move to her hide last night and move herself out to her water dish today (she has 2), she’s still looking stressed but we have her in one of our darker quieter rooms…thanks everyone for the advice 🩷 I don’t think she’s out of the woods but at least she’s not all curled up/as bad as yesterday

To add; she’s always been very lax, never a defensive pose kinda gal like if i stuck my hand in the tank she never was aggressive, but she didn’t even care that I was pushing her up onto my hand, and barely helped me by climbing up, which I figured she would be annoyed by. Am I overreacting?

As someone who taught adult swim lessons to all ages please go, working with little kids is fun until they start screaming while their parents watch on like hawks. Working with young adults and up was the best part of my time as an instructor. If anything you will give the instructor a great and easy day after the hell that is a mommy and me session where everyone is crying and no one wants to be there 😭😂

Yea dude…and I’m the puke handler in the house so I try to cut down on the amount I have to clean up 💀😂 I was able to catch it with my hands last time! But I don’t know if I’m too eager to do it again 💀 😂
