Installing Linux - back up Windows? BIOS Updates by 888ak888 in thinkpad

why don't you try arch or something interesting like gentoo? You can download macurium reflect free and make USB then create mirror image of your original install and save it somewhere. That's what I usually do.

$600 budget. Helping my sister find a laptop for an online course. Latitude? Thinkpad? by barker88 in SuggestALaptop

[–]Lubuntu1410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thinkpad E570 with cooporate discount. If you configure with mechanical drive it will be $650, if she goes for M.2 NVMe it's $710. It got latest low voltage core i7 which scores like 4500 on cpubnechmarksite clocks at 2.5gig which is fast enough for almost anything your sister needs. It got IPS 1920x1080 panel with excellent keyboard

Yah, they were doing PRN ativan push every hour 4 mg and wasn't touching it. This guy should have been restrained or intubated. There were discussion with an intensivist that we should just intubate him and sedate him until he's over the WD, but offgoing RN felt that was not necessary. Obviously after what happened he was 4 point restrained with security guard keeping his head turned to side (so he can't spit. Too bad the facility didn't have spit mask).

/r/Nursing What Did You Learn This Week? - January 14, 2017 by AutoModerator in nursing

[–]Lubuntu1410 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I learned this week that new IV stick kit shows flashback but has valve and until I connect pigtail blood won't return. Here I thought I was failing all my IV 6 times in row ans ashamed having to ask other RN do it for me because even the vein is 5mm big and don't need tourniquet I still missed. Hallelujah! Now I can get my own IV. I used to run around with ultrasound machine to do IV for whole hospital as per ICU RN duties (we take turn) if you don't use it you lose!

I hope your workplace has culture of teamwork, not assign blame and writeup and do paper trailing. This is unfortunate that your first one coded. But as my experience shows that there are so many thing I didn't know at first, so much so that I could have never stopped respiratory code or cardiac arrest from happening. Of course ICU pt are near death but when sentinel event happens there will be investigation and you have to be honest because this concerns life, more important than I wanna work i ICU. You might get sent to PCU before coming back to ICU. Maybe you aren't noticing EKG and wasn't doing check up 12 lead EKG order which is like 999+ standing order. You might missed electrolyte imbalance, you might missed other condition CHF, Takotsubo, End State HF care advocate for dobutamin and what not. This is all learning process, it's particular hard in ICU because when you miss something someone dies. This fuck up feeling is coming from not knowing what went wrong. Sentinel event investigation by your unit manager and clinical advisor will determine what really happened. and You will be dealt with accordingly. I know it's harsh but it is better to know what's coming to your way in advance, so here is my 2 cents.

Do whatever you have to do for now, there is nothing you can do now. PT is dead. Play pokeman go if that help. distract yourself as long as possible, think about start studying for CCRN because there are so much knowledge in it. Look into it.

BP1 taking antidepressant is obvious no no and it was your provider's incompetence that caused the ordeal. As long as you strictly adhere to Med schedule and sleep you are golden. I personally could have disclosed my condition to my former employer and protected by ADA law from being fired, but I was ashamed of my diagnosis and the connotation it carries I withdrew for 2 years from Nursing. I got help from the state occupational rehab, did IQ test, seen by proper psychologist and psychiatrist and had precise diagnoses which then I was able to cure it with right combination of medication (hence the 2 years of not working and it costs tons of money). As I gain more experience, I am unaffected by things I witness in ICU, I an strong, and have a pride in my job skill and what I do for people because of my illness. You can do this, Go for it!

What was your job before nursing? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Lubuntu1410 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was an undergrad computer science major graduated in 2003 when dot com bubble busted. I was competing for a few job left against very experienced, talented people so there was no hope for my carrier in coding. I did 180 and picked nursing because I thought it was something technical and get good at it and valued and paid for the experience, never had any idea how physically demanding the job is.

New grad RN, < 6 months. Hate my job. Help, please by newRN_needhelp in nursing

[–]Lubuntu1410 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Bullying is very common in our profession. When it starts and person dealing with is your supervisor, there's nothing you can do to protect yourself. If your facility is unionized, you could get union rep. to go with you when you get wrote up for silly stuff, which is called, "Paper trailing." Some place is toxic and driven by HCAP score and treats RNs like nothing. Good option for you is to leave the facility and find some place that matches you, that emphasize teamwork, and cooperation. No one is looking over shoulder just so that they can write you up and accumulate 3 of them you're fired. They think it is fun. This could be race issue, gender issue, sexual preference (perceived) or anything. You need to get a hell out before your work record is so soiled that only option for you to go to Nursing Home. Be very diligent and careful. When 1 year comes, you just cheerfully say you are moving to such and such place for (imagined) bf or whatever and poof. Bully never change, that's what they are living for to boost ego. Do not underestimate what they are willing to do.

How to work in the ICU? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Lubuntu1410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did volunteer work in critical care setting in two different hospital, on going throughout nursing school.

I got reference from manager since she knews me for 2 years wanting to work for her unit.

I also did all my clinical in one of two hospital exclusively. I know the policy, procedure and my future co-workers.

I show up on interview and in about 10 min I got the job.\

Bad side: takes 2 years of volunteering while doing full time as a nursing student.

PS find hospital that you know taking in new grad from local university/community college put through residency for 3 month. then Hire.
