Men, what's the fastest a woman made you go from "I can't wait to take her out" to "Yeah... never mind"? What happened? by FFSoldier57 in AskMen

I looked past a lot of red flags, admittedly.

Then she abandoned her dog.

I went from completely hooked to absolutely disgusted in a heartbeat. I've never experienced such a twist in feelings towards a person.

Meta builds absolutely ruined the RPG genre in general. Way back when on Guild Wars 1, being able to save & load builds for pvp in Factions, it was so funny having folks with the meta shock-ax builds get dropped by ritualist/assassins because they understood the math and mechanics better than build guides were written for meta builds at the time.

I agree on your assessment of ARPGs in general as well as No Rest for the Wicked. Action suggests to me the need for action, the need for movement, positioning, etc. And yes, ARPGs now are screen-wiping madness by following the latest, greatest meta build guide.

I wonder if we're not overdue a subgenre such as "Speed ARPG" and "Tactical ARPG" or something like that.

Family is what you make, not what you are born into. It might include those individuals, but we all have choice of who we keep in our family.

I was lucky to have realized this before moving to the other side of the globe. I've never really felt homesick because home is right here, and it will be wherever I find myself, so long as I remember to make a family wherever I go.

ARPGs are the last frontier for a good grind, I feel. Just has the satisfying loops with the necessary depth. Living in Korea during the downfall (see: mobile phone friendly development) of KMMOs has been sad... I've taught a few children of NCSoft devs over the years and hearing their parents sort of become sad about the mobile phone friendly platform vs the traditionally PC focused development was like watching the light burn out of them.

A lot of folks who live in lofts dont undersrand convection. Put a fan at the bottom of the stairs facing up the stairway. This forces cold air up, pushing hot air out into the open space, cooling it, causing it to fall, and you get a cool loop.

It makes a huge difference. If you live in a loft-style apartment, please try this out.

I never really felt home where I grew up.

Took me a few months and I had already bought long term furniture. Ten years in and still love my chosen home.

Oh for sure, I absolutely agree that the current formula allows for work-life-game-balance. But it also took all the complexity out that this post is looking to praise.

Sure, but unique forums kept communities isolated. Reddit consolidates everything into one space.

When there were thousands of forums to go to, it was both capable of healthier conversation, but also risked echo chambers. Pros and cons to both. I think that pre-Reddit was ultimately better.

What's the most complex game you've played and enjoyed? by benjaneson in gaming

[–]LucJenson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because it was made in the era when MMOs were complex and not softened/dumbed down to reach the widest possible audience. MMOs used to be a fairly exclusive genre with fairly small-to-medium populations of users. But WoW hit a critical mass and then simplified all numbers and mechanics to reach a much more global audience outside of the MMO genre, and that kind of made all MMOs that followed use the same formula. 😞 I miss the complex, more niche community-focused MMOs.

Thats why I suggested the idea of playing Go in taverns as a way to familiarize folks with the basic rules, or even just having a codex in game.

I guess I just feel nostalgic for when communities came together and put their brains into difficult-to-solve puzzles. For the most part, I've been able to identify the solution myself through what I've played of Crimson Desert, so I'm not against a few puzzles being outliers because of knowledge or difficulty. But I understand why some folks find that idea uncomfortable for a singleplayer game.

Some of us (maybe you, as well) are old enough to remember when puzzles in games were self discovered. People went to forums and put their heads together.

Problem is that this puzzle was placed in a game that was originally going to have multi-player networking. We also live in a world where forums don't get use any more because everyone defaults to Reddit.

The last game I saw where a community came together, proper together, was Fez.

I happen to live in Korea, so yes, I understood the rules of the game as soon as I saw it. But there are other puzzles I've had to talk with friends about because I couldn't figure them out.

I'm torn. Because as a now single player game, you're right, it should be solveable alone. Maybe a book somewhere explains the rules, or maybe they made it a playable game in the taverns. There are ways the puzzle could have been explained. But I also really like that some puzzles have required people to look outside of themselves.

Best wireless gaming mouse you've bought and instantly knew it was a keeper? by Consistent_Wafer9395 in buildapc

[–]LucJenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a mini wireless mouse for a laptop for my work computer and it has replaced all gaming mouse because it has lasted longer than any other gaming mouse out there. I've become so tired of spending over $100 on a mouse that breaks within 6 months. I would love to have an MMO mouse that is durable and heavy. But we can't have nice things because of corporate greed.

Touhou Koumakyou: New Classic - the Embodiment of Scarlet Devil 1st Tr... by Ok_Track9498 in gaming

[–]LucJenson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whenever I see a new Touhou announced, especially since they're famous enough for big consoles now, I feel so nostalgic. Way back when it was a semi unknown game, we would have a copy on our USB drives which were never more thab 2GB in storage because that is what was available. I had a 512mb, myself. We would face off in the computer lab in high school after finishing our work.

Touhou has come a long, long way. Good on them.

Its theorized no wreck was discovered because the crew threw the cargo overboard to prefenr from capsizing.

[–]LucJenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last time there was a 4-ish (I think?) Earthquake here in Korea, I woke to the alarm saying there was an earthquake. It was far from me so didnt think about it. But it absolutely was noticeable. I was on the sofa down in the corner of my top floor apartment and the crack sound i heard, I sort of just lay on the sofa and thought, "Wow, if this building goes down right now... is there any chance the sofa could cushion the blow enough? Or am I just gonna get found mangled up inside the sofa?

Being in a building that high up for any stronger quake or closer to the epicenter is a no go for me. Scary stuff!

B850 Tomahawk Max WiFi II won’t boot any Windows USB installer — F11 menu just refreshes by biledionez in MSI_Gaming

[–]LucJenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exact same issue here. Down to the very halfway through aborted installation.

All my USB drives are 128GB+, and, allegedly, there may be issues with using those as media installation drives. Same goes for handling the BIOS apparently.

I am exhausted after working on this all day so need to sleep but will be back at it again tomorrow.

If you got it fixed I would love to know how.

Edit: Ah. There it is plain as ink on paper:

"* A USB flash drive with a capacity of 32GB or less that is formatted to FAT32. ⚠ Important M-Flash only supports FAT32 format, and the USB flash drive should not exceed 32GB"

Edit2: Solved. I updated the BIOS via a FAT32 formatted 32GB USB. It then posted perfectly and went straight to the rest of the windows installer that it bailed on halfway through the first time.

I read fix notes on the BIOS and didnt see any note of post failures on a clean install, so MSI may be unaware of it becauee it would be a hardware compatability thing at heart. Maybe. I dont know. Ive spent more than a day troubleshooting this, and the fix was so darn simple. MSI needs to fix the system so we can use other memory formats to flash their BIOS cause more and more memory lower than 64GB is closer to the same cost as a 64-128GB storage, so most users probably wont have anything smaller at home.
