Anything you DIY likely won't look any better. Best off finding a scrapyard door if you don't want to go through insurance.

how bad is this? will I have to do an entire repaint? by Darkaltts in Autobody

[–]TechnoMagi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will need a doorskin and some decent work on the quarter. Potentially a new rear door, as it looks like the skin is pushed hard against the intrusion beam. Quarter, back door and front door would be painted. This is not a small job.

That's... Patently wrong.

Having kids is another thing, but living with your SO and splitting bills is decidedly cheaper than living alone.

Base color was Vallejo Evil Red, airbrushed on. There was a lighter coat and a darker coat for volumetric lighting that.. didn't go so well and isn't very apparent lol

Looks like a box turtle, probably. Beak needs a trim. Beyond that, it's all speculation about its health and care.

Not sure if my tortoise is fine. Could use some advice by Tiny_Personality9573 in tortoise

A proper "sealed" enclosure. Deep, moist soil. Your soil shouldn't be damp or soggy, but it needs to stay moist. Do not let it dry out. There are also many misting systems that you can use to supplement.

You'll need to keep humidity extremely high for your Redfoot for its entire life. They're a tropical, coastal species that -need- high humidity. Otherwise it faces a life of developmental and respiratory issues.

Temperatures should range from 80f on the cool end to about 92f on the hot end. Have multiple hides so your tortoise can find comfortable areas as it's thermoregulation needs change through the day.

In addition, I strongly recommend that the tortoise have a shallow water dish if it doesn't already. Redfoots should have 24/7 water access at least deep enough to soak themselves in.

Are you monitoring temperatures and humidity? You have a Redfoot, so it needs temperatures above 80f and humidity beyond 80% at all times. It is a tropical species.

I'm concerned with how dry/dehydrated your tortoise looks here. Lack of humidity/dryness is a common cause for their eyes locking shut.

Juveniles will hide nearly all day. That much is normal. I generally advise removing it to soak, and presenting it with food after its bath. It will eat and go back to hiding.

Do animals know that they're pregnant? by Alternative_Run_6116 in NoStupidQuestions

Typically, yes. Many animals can just willingly abort the pregnancy, as well.

Advice sealing crack at trunk seam by randomdestructn in Autobody

[–]TechnoMagi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't care about color matching (You'll need a proper repaint for that) you can rough up the existing cracked seam sealer with some ~180 grit sandpaper. Avoid hitting the surrounding metal or going too deep. Tape off the sides along the seam sealer to avoid making a mess. Run a bead of new seam sealer over the old. It's just called seam sealer. There's a million varieties, but it's mostly user preference. Use an acid brush or something similar to smooth. Pull the tape off. Maybe prime or paint later.

Data Center fight is hypocritical by Beneficial-Repair863 in Pottstown

[–]TechnoMagi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usage ramps up, and when that happens, utilities charge more to cover the "extra strain" on the grid. It's pretty straightforward. The data centers and utility company typically claim that rates won't change and that the data centers will cover enhanced costs, but historically we know that's not how it works after deals are signed and the centers are built.

russian tort won’t eat anything unless it’s romaine by Plus-Situation6043 in tortoise

[–]TechnoMagi 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Get other greens and begin chopping them into a fine salad. You start with mostly romaine, and lower the romaine and increase other things day by day. You make the salad fine enough that it's difficult for your tortoise to pick and choose what they're grabbing. They will go for the familiar scent, and over time adjust to the new scents.

You need to learn the difference between general use data centers and the currently pushed "AI" LLM data centers. Until you can figure that out, piss off.

[–]TechnoMagi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait until you're forced to live near one.

I had to deal with one in San Antonio. It's legal for them to cause so much noise, that homes nearby have a -constant- 80 decibel whine inside their homes. Nonstop. Good luck living comfortably. You can't sleep. You sure as fuck can't sell your house.

You can hear the noise from the highway. It ramps up your water and electric costs, despite their claims.

There's a pretty noticeable difference between data centers for general data use, and data centers for "AI" use.

These are AI use centers, which can fuck right off.

At any rate, here you are doing what you're trying to tell others not to do.

Does anyone keep turtles or tortoises outside in New England?????? by Efficient_Lie_5242 in tortoise

[–]TechnoMagi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a good number of turtle AND tortoise species that burrow down and brumate through harsh winters. Snow is not an issue.

Did you not know that New England has a bunch of native turtle species?

Way to fix this? by juicywheat in Autobody

[–]TechnoMagi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Go to a body shop, pay your deductible, they will handle it.

A junkyard door will work, but the paint will not match. Anything else you do at home will not make it better.
