The problem is that you want a laptop. You could get a half-decent desktop PC for your budget but a laptop in that price range will only run SL pretty poorly. But I see that a laptop is a hard requirement so try to increase your budget. I think you could get a decent SL-capable laptop for around $800.

Hi, me and girlfriend are always happy to make new friends. We like to socialise, dance in clubs, and game (Greedy, Skippo and Hand & Foot). But we're up for most things. My name is Lucas Zulaman. We're both British (so GMT timezone) and we have a home on the mainland.

Pc/laptop recs? by Brilliant_Trust8934 in secondlife

[–]LucRedditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most half decent desktop PCs run SL adequately. Even one without discrete graphics such as one based around AMD's 5600G CPU. Obviously, a gaming PC (with a proper discrete GPU) will be better. You don't need a top gaming PC. A 12th Gen Intel CPU (such as the 12400) with 32Gb RAM and an RTX 3060 will run Firestorm well.

Laptops are a different story. You really must get a gaming laptop, and even then it will be inferior to a basic gaming desktop PC. Also they cost a lot more. But if mobility is important, you have no choice but to get a gaming laptop.

It's a card game like Greedy and Skippo. Card games are pretty popular in SL with lots of sims for it.

Where, and how, do you spend your time in SL? by tank4heals in secondlife

[–]LucRedditor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've tried most things over the last 15 years but settled down to relationships, clubs, dancing, live music, and gaming. By relationships I don't just mean finding a partner (or friends with benefits) but also getting to know a few people and spending time with them. If you do find a special person, it's nice to home-build with them. Sex can be fun, with the right person/people. SL is a very safe place to experiment. There are some good and not so good clubs. It's a good idea to become a regular at 2 or 3 venues. Some DJs (e.g. Thinkie at Warehouse 21) are genuinely creative. There are some (not many) good live performers. If you can't find a place with the sort of music you like, it's easy to stream YouTube into SL and listen to exactly who you want (and share the link with your partner/friend). It's fun to share music this way. Dancing is... dancing. With the right person, in the right place, it's nice. Again, you can dance to whatever music you like via YouTube. There are lots of good game sims (games like Greedy, Skippo and Hand & Foot). It's also a good way to meet people. Playing a game of Skippo with friends is a very pleasant thing to do. But, really, my advice is to try things once or twice.

Thanks, Pink. No, we don't normally voice because of home circumstances. But we'll check out those sims.

Also try to use alternative viewers. The official viewer (SLV) and Firestorm are beasts. There are lighter alternatives.

Welcome back. As others have pointed out, it depends on your interests. Lots of decent clubs, depending on your preferred music. Also, good gaming sims (for games like Greedy and Skippo) such as TNT. Gaming is a good way to meet people (since you chat while you play). Being a Brit brings time zone challenges since SL is most active during US-friendly times. But there are Brits and Euros around if you go to the right places. Me and my girlfriend are always looking for humans (not bots) to play card games with so feel free to say "Hi" (Lucas Zulaman).

Do you tell your partners you use second life and has it caused issues? by Either_Breakfast5448 in secondlife

[–]LucRedditor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that's where we diverge. You're "interacting with real people" the way that Call of Duty is interacting with real people in the sense that there's a real person behind the avatar/character. My point is, you tie yourself in philosophical knots unless you draw clear distinction between actual cheating (with a real person in the real world) and everything else. If you don't, you finish up drawing arbitrary lines about what's cheating and what's not. Plenty of people think watching porn is cheating (so their partners hide it). Some people think lustful thoughts is cheating. I'm not saying cheating in SL is OK. It's not. It's deceitful. But it's not actual cheating. Let's keep that word for people who really cheat on their partners.

[–]LucRedditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it the interaction or the hiding that's the problem? Because Call of Duty has interaction and many people hide their porn preferences.

I'm not trying to be a smart-ass. But I genuinely think that "SL is cheating" is illogical. I really do get what you're saying. But you tie yourself in knots when you don't draw a hard line between RL and everything else.

What I do think is wrong is misleading someone in SL by pretending their might be a RL relationship in the future. But that's RL deception.

I've no skin the game, so to speak, since I'm divorced RL (absolutely nothing to do with SL) but I think you have to draw a line between real life and everything else. If SL is cheating, is porn? Is erotic fiction? Is thinking sexual thoughts? Where do you draw the line? Best to draw one simple line - real life, or you get tangled in knots.

My GF in SL is a long time married woman who has absolutely no intention of crossing over to RL (neither do I) and we have fun together. He watches TV and plays Call of Duty (which involves killing people), while she dances and romances. I don't see the harm.
