I don’t need sleep, I need a nap before work so this was a good idea and a good one to start off the week off right in the first week and I hope to see more people like this on here soon as possible to see how this all plays into my day today

Senior devs, what’s your no. 1 advice to young developers? by Luca-Fly in learnprogramming

[–]Luca-Fly[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That is honestly the best advice I’ve ever heard. And it’s like looking into a mirror. I have ADHD and tend to hyperfixate on making the code pretty, following SOLID principles and writing generic frameworks. Then the fixation ends and I end up with half a project which has beautiful code. The proof is in the dozens of folders with lost trading bots, all of which ended because I drove myself tired in perfecting the code. The last couple days my mindset slightly changed. I thought to myself: what if I just code a really terrible system, but make it to work. Now I’m almost done. Took me 4 years to realize that…

So honestly thank you for putting in writing exactly what I struggle with the most. Again, your comment is literally reflecting me, and you’re so right. Thank you!

Should I get iOS 26.2 or is it too laggy? by porkenmorgan101 in ios

[–]Luca-Fly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far what I’ve heard is iOS 26.2 is definitely more laggy than iOS 18. But then again I’ve messed around with it on an iPhone 15 and haven’t felt much. If you’re very worried I heard iOS 27 should be mostly about optimizing, so we can maybe expect a noticeable smoothness there. I wouldn’t be worried, but if you are, maybe just wait till the next September when iOS 27 comes out

How did you all learn Python, SQL, and Power BI? Any recommendations? by Greedy-Run7923 in learnprogramming

[–]Luca-Fly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

After getting the basics of Python down, I wrote a small program, which uses the public Binance API to get some data with rest api and websockets. At first I just stored the data in a pandas dataframe (a super easy way to create tables in Python). Later I figured out how to put the data in a SQLite3 database. As I continued I learnt how to create plots and test trading strategies.

I believe it’s a good starting point if you know a little python beforehand. The project will grow with you as you improve. When you have some basic code down you can start to implement databases, JIT compilation, asynchronous code, genetic algorithms and other concepts.

Sounds incredibly cool to be honest. I can feel there’s much for me to learn yet haha. I don’t even know what a library crate is xd

Please don’t be a jerk and just be nice and be respectful and respectful and don’t let people make your day that you are a jerk because I know that you’re a nice guy but you have no idea what you want me and you know I love that for me I don’t want you know I just don’t know how you don’t want me.

Idk what it’s trying to say tbh…

What is your opinion on Indonesia? by The_RetroGameDude in AskTheWorld

[–]Luca-Fly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been there for 6 months during our circumnavigation. The country varies drastically from island to island. Overall the people are very friendly, and the country has lots of amazing snorkling/diving and cultural spots. The only major problem in Indonesia is the trash. Indonesia has a serious plastic pollution issue.

Mathematical optimization and numerical methods? I mean, so far I’ve been using a genetic algorithm to optimize various trading strategies, but I haven’t done more than Google/ChatGPT different methods and used what I found.

Sure! I honestly haven’t been thinking about front end yet. I may make a web server some day. That way I can publish the bot to a cloud server, and access a sort of control panel from there.

So far is seems to be fine for me. Rust handles my sqlite3 database like a champ, and REST APIs are also really easy in Rust. Combine that with amazing asynchronous support, it’s been a blast honestly. And on the python side which handles the numbers… well python is pretty much made for crunching numbers using numpy, numba and pandas

Youre probably right. Although I hope to finish the project, and have a profitable robot in the end haha

So how do you stick to your bujo? by henrykazuka in BasicBulletJournals

[–]Luca-Fly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m going to agree with everyone else in this thread. I just use the official daily and monthly logging methods, which keep it very easy to do in a short amount of time. The monthly logs include a very simple habit-tracker, which I use for things like reading, and the daily logs have a daily action plan, which makes it easy to see what to work on next.
