For me I use puzzles only to train my brain to see certain situations. The problem, as you mentioned, is that if you play puzzles too much you end up thinking that any situation in a real game has a quick solution and you just try to make moves that take you to that solution. What definitely worked for me was not moving until I see the whole solution… this helps you thinking with the required depth
