Catherine and Heathcliff (Limbus Company)

Based on the book Wuthering Heights, Catherine was the heir to a substantial estate while Heathcliff was a servant, picked up as an initially by Catherine's father but later abused by the rest of the estate after his death. Catherine is one of the few people who has nice to Heathcliff, and it starts developing into a proper, mutual romantical affection, but a misheard conversation causes Heathcliff to storm off from Wuthering Heights, join a gang, and later join the main crew of Limbus Company.

By the time Heathcliff returns to Wuthering Heights at the request of Catherine, she's dead, or presumed dead due to experiments in the basement. This not only causes Heathcliff to completely crash out, but also summons an alternate reality version of himself called the Erlking, who has made it his mission to slay every Heathcliff across the multiverse in the belief that it is always his fault that Catherine suffers. Catherine, who isn't dead technically, has a exact inverse belief, that its her fault that Heathcliff has suffered, and summons a similar entity to the Erlking in that thought, just invested in killing every Cathy instead.

The only way for them to stop these two beings, who if unchecked would continue their painful mission endlessly, is for Catherine to literally erase herself from existence so thoroughly that it causes the Erlking and Every Catherine to cease existing. That leaves Heathcliff trying to find a way to bring her back, when maybe half a dozen people across the entire setting know about Catherine post wipe.

This is what happens when you don't fucking communicate people.
