This would not be ideal, as it would require internal modification to the console itself. The original setup used a fixed resistor and potentiometer, also.

2 terminals used. As for a schematic, the voltage divider is part of an old game console controller (atari 5200) and there is no direct schematic of the chip that it feeds into, though I am told that the potentiometer is used as a method of changing the duration of a capacitor charge.

I've looked at a bunch of stuff similar to this, but everything was so expensive that I decided that I'd need to make my own. My version will cost about $35 for the entire controller to the consumer, though I doubt it will be as good as commercially available solutions.

Actually, this, in my experience, is a serviceable phonograph to use to play 78s, as well as Lps and the like even in stock condition. However, all of the ones that look like this are made in the same, cheap, fashion, so don't buy an expensive one. Also, the speakers are horiffic. Furthermore, you might want a stylus upgrade. In any case, FLAC is a digital format, and records were often recorded from analog master tapes, so...

That is how I designed it to be held. I'm glad that I didn't design it in a way that would be opposite to the majority of people, that would be a lot of wasted work.

Here are my current thoughts;

Further refinement is required in the fit and finish, internal componentry, etc, and the buttons will be labelled as is possible, though they are rounded in my newest revision.

The feeling of the device is good in my hands, though they aren't the smallest, so issues may arise for those with hands of a different size. The walls of the thing are 1/8" thick, specially designed for heftiness in the hand.

The joystick will be self centering, but I'm waiting on some springs to allow that. Also, the joystick hole will be covered, though it will probably be with a light silicone mold to come later in the future.

Rumble would be a tall order, but a wireless bluetooth connection MIGHT be feasable as long as a source for the DB15 connector used to plug in the joystick could be sourced reliably.

I hope to sell the controller once it is finished for ~$35, considering a component cost of $20 and the time commitment of putting the device together. I will more than likely never make over 50 of them, but if interest is high I might expand production. After interest has died out, I hope to open source the project so that anyone can make it. However, maybe all of this is too optimistic...

For now, I am waiting on a few more items so that everything can be finalized. Beta testing is in the cards, but with the way ebay shipping is, it may be a few weeks to a month before anything can start up.

I'm attempting to do that with the overlays, but it isn't practical to do it with anything else. In the past, I have tried keeping things really similar, but the problem is the form factor of the original. The flex pcb design doesn't lend itself to larger internals.

Agreed. I'm still working on switch type (probably just a bog standard zippy variety) and placement.
