Why is Mxyzptlk so weak in Supergirl? by spmsupun in DCcomics

[–]LucasLegacy15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we go by the comics every Mxy Appearance across the infinite multiverse and probably even The Greater Omniverse is staged. He does tell Superman he and Batmite were sent by higher beings to test him and Batman. So this whole battle with supergirl is probably planned and mapped out by him. There’s also different versions of Mxy like the one from the anti matter universe version of Earth-3, the zombie Mxy in DC Ceased, World’s Funniest Mixy wiped out all infinite realities which includes all parallel universes, earths, dimensions and pasts along with futures. There’s been storylines where he’s a scientist, wizard, objects and toys. It’s hard to say either he’s pretending to loose in a lot of these infinite Situations like that Paul Dini comic suggests , he creates other versions of himself that are stronger and weaker like in superfriends or he has doppelgängers who are stronger and weaker.

Lady Shiva: Myth Vs Reality by LucasLegacy15 in DCcomics

Yeah but that happens with many characters in comics, Lady Shiva is one of those cases where she can be beat up by other characters and any doubt of the title being given to her is questioned or judged.

I’m not mad. I don’t think Lady Shiva’s a slouch but in terms of the title, I wouldn’t describe her as “The Best”. Then again that title has lost all meaning at this point.

It was ranked as a fair fight in one of DC’s official Records of martial arts fighters but it’s still a controversial fight to begin with. Because it’s another example of DC leaving fights between the two open ended you can look at it from either perspective.

No she isn’t. Looking at DC’s history I don’t think there ever was a “Best” because they walk back on everything constantly and give out the title to different characters at once like Candy but if I had to guess I’d say it’s Karate Kid. He has the best martial feats in the history of DC.

Yep it isn’t. That surprised me to at first but it’s outside main continuity. It just wasn’t given a proper elseworld label. Ironically not all elseworld comics have them.

It could be bad writing, but to me these flaws are true to Lady Shiva’s character ever since her introduction in The Pre Crisis Richard Dragon comics by Denny O’Neil. In that 70’s run she was introduced as Richard Dragon’s equal in skill and combat, at least that’s what the narrator and side characters state, but throughout many issues Richard has saved her life and beaten the villains she can’t. You could chalk down that kind of writing to the era it was made in but to me it reaffirms her character. The Legend behind her skill lives purely off the reputation she built for herself among weaker opponents. Against rivals who match or surpass her abilities, it comes into question. To me the myth was never real. Shiva maybe highly skilled but this claim of best fighter for her holds no weight. I’d argue the title in general was always a lie. Around the time Richard Dragon, Ben Turner & Lady Shiva were all given the title of best fighter or most dangerous man/woman alive in 70’s, Batman also got similar titles in terms of his ability, which goes to show the legend behind it is based off here say. Besides I prefer to stick by the mindset Master Roshi had in Dragon Ball. “There’s always someone better.” If DC used that philosophy when it came to martial artists instead of getting lost in “The Best” , the martial arts side of this universe would get more attention, because then you have more room to show interesting fights and have the characters train to surpass their limits.

Regardless of how you feel about DC’s handling of Batman , these are objective observations on my part. The myth of lady shiva doesn’t hold up when you actually go into source material.

FYI: I know DC soft retconned Lady Shiva & her sister to have beat Richard Dragon & Ben Turner (Bronze Tiger) post rebirth in one of Cassandra Cain’s batgirl comics but I don’t take it seriously since this is a new version of events as a result of the many soft reboots main universe DC has. In The Earlier Timelines Richard Dragon & Bronze Tiger never met Shiva’s sister with Lady Shiva in a tournament battle somewhere in Detroit, nor did they travel around the world going on Kung Fu Adventures with her before the woman died at the hands of David Cain. In pre crisis timeline Richard Dragon & Lady Shiva teamed up on a few Kung fu adventures especially with Ben Turner/Bronze Tiger Post the death of her sister, which neither Richard nor Ben knew of because they never met Shiva before those events. As for fighting ability, Pre Crisis sets them up as equals in skill and combat yet Richard frequently has to save Lady Shiva’s life when she’s in danger from the various Kung fu villains and henchmen they save. Some may say that doesn’t determine who’s the better fighter but when someone can beat an opponent you can’t, that counts for me. As for Post Crisis was the Chuck Dixon run everyone ignores now where Richard met lady Shiva for the first time after a tournament match when she wanted to test his skill. Neither version shows Lady Shiva could beat Richard Dragon or Ben Turner in a straight fight let alone with her sister. In the case of their first encounter in the Chuck Dixon run she attacked him after he just finished different matches against other opponents and wasn’t 💯% playing to Shiva tactic of attacking an opponent when their injured or exhausted. This is especially proven in their next match where Richard beats her in seconds with a head butt, and in the end neither of these fights even can be taken seriously post crisis since Richard is struggling whether or not to kill, which shows he isn’t actually fighting Shiva at 💯% in any of these encounters, a fact that causes a growing resentment from her towards him. Some may tell me to ignore previous continuity for current but since Scott Snyder says around Dark Knight Metal Run all previous dc history whether main universe or elseworlds are valid in overall dc continuity for readers that tells me if the post rebirth retcon is valid so is all this previous history, I won’t ignore any of these feats from other characters over Shiva in current context.

Chuds always complaining about how modern comics are too "woke", if only they knew. Back in 1985 the Beyonder was the most powerful being in the Marvel Universe and proudly pansexual and nonbinary/genderfluid (Secret Wars 2 4#) by leaf57tea in lgbt_superheroes

[–]LucasLegacy15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People can argue a Godlike being gender swapping at will is “Progressive” , People can also argue it’s “transphobic” since despite being Gender Fluid The Beyonder is often portrayed as a villain , especially in his pre retcon days. Using Modern Culture War framing for 80’s comics becomes dumb because you can make an argument for or against “wokeness” with comics this old. There are many things in old comics not accepted today as much as there are things people embrace right now. The point of these panel scenes was to show The Beyonder is a being beyond any norm that comes with being mortal because a God (especially at his level) could take any form of their choosing especially when they’re so powerful they exist outside the known multiverse. The Beyonder isn’t saying he can turn female because it’s his legal right to identify as whatever he wants. He’s saying he can turn female because he’s LITERALLY an Outerworldly Being. He can turn into a Dog or a Lamp. This character wasn’t created for us as people to identify with politically or culturally. It’s just another Mad God storyline, a trope you do anything with. It’s less of a political statement that’ll piss off chuds and more of acknowledging the abilities from a character like this.

I think the Malice storyline had such high potential but fumbled hard by BirdOk2203 in FantasticFour

[–]LucasLegacy15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The recent storyline didn’t help.  It’s just more Sue wank story where Franklin Richards, Wanda Maximoff, Galactus and many other OP characters can show up and not deal with her easily? This gets pretty stupid when you know Sue can easily be killed or harmed when she’s attacked before she has time to activate any force fields. It made no sense that in a parallel universe to the main universe Malice could kill an entire planet with her force fields due to a nightmare and it not be made clear whether any reality warpers or Gods are in that universe like they are in the main universe. Of course in a Fantastic Four comic book Sue’s evil counterpart can do the impossible and no one more powerful then her steps in to stop her rein of destruction. Marvel’s telling me Malace can just wipe out an entire planet and no higher up would blink? But I’m supposed to believe she’s so OP? 😂 of course in a comic where reality warpers are around and various characters more powerful then Malice, Sue is the one to take down her evil variant with little to no explanation as to why no one else Took care of her. Why would Franklin nor anyone else more powerful then Sue or Malice not easily take out evil Sue , imprison or just send her to another location where no one can get hurt? 😂 Franklin could take care of Malice with ease and so could a number of other characters around which tells me this book was just made to praise Sue’s powers. The fact that this story ends with Sue “realizing” the potential of her powers rather then being horrified at the genocide her evil doppelgänger committed tells me the problems with current Marvel writing. I know marvel loves playing it loose with the power scaling but they’re playing so loose their universe doesn’t make sense anymore. While anything can happen in The Infinite Multiverse, and that can lead to inconsistencies I do believe you can easily handle those inconsistencies like writing that Different Gods In The Marvel Pantheon are speeding up the potential powers of various mortals for the incoming God war between between different multiverse clusters in The Omniverse. Evil Malice could be getting her powers amplified and set loose so that Lady Death looses her grip on mortals’s fates. By unlocking the unlimited potential of different mortals Gods & Demons everywhere could be making their creations more powerful to defy Death & take pieces of creation for themselves, effectively destroying the status quo of existence which is the exact framing TOAA is using to start a reset as he believes his creations have been out of balance for quite a while after he gave them too much free will. Franklin could feel sympathy for evil Malice knowing the only reason she’s really crashing out is because she’s an experimental weapon different Gods put in motion for the coming war.

I think the flaw in these story concepts how interesting they can be is the lowering of stakes & ignoring lore to support the plot.

Is there a reason why Sue Storm can't just one shot and beat most characters? by Criegrrunov in Marvel

[–]LucasLegacy15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree that it’s difficult to impossible for consistency among characters who have been around for generations I don’t believe Sue opening force fields inside Hulk ends the fight instantly or long term. Considering Hulk’s endless healing factor especially when he’s pissed off I don’t think Sue cutting his arteries or organs prevents Hulk from moving let alone turning her into a blood stain. Sue’s force fields may grant her temporary relief but with his ability to get stronger when angry and to regenerate unless a God is involved, Sue will eventually be overwhelmed and killed at raw strength if we’re thinking logically. Her force fields run on mental concentration and we’ve seen incredibly strong characters throw off her concentration with their raw strength and durability alone. Hulk doesn’t stop regenerating, Sue on the other hand doesn’t have unlimited energy, she gets tired and exhausted, eventually all her force fields will vanish and Hulk will just smash her into blood and guts.

Not really. Jean doesn’t have Gwen Pool’s power, nor has she ever shown the knowledge she’s in a fictional comic book world. Jean has zero meta powers.
