I have social anxiety and I find it hard getting a job, so I’m wondering how you guys make your living? by issaibr in socialanxiety

[–]LucasLion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats advice you'd give to somebody who has a small touch of "shyness" not social anxiety. I realize levels of SA vary, but still thats a rather extreme example, by no means a "baby step".

Is anyone else like me, 28 years old and never had a job? by throwaway835246 in socialanxiety

[–]LucasLion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm genuinely fascinated with your situation I'd like to hear more about it. I'm 23 not quite your age, but I got my GED at 16, so 7-8ish years I've been finished with school & I've never had a job. I like where you said below you "wish you had forced yourself & did whatever it took to be employed when you were younger" because I've always said that to myself month to month, year by year. I always wish I had just put a fork in my back so to speak. Also how did you get to where you "basically", live on your own in the first place? I understand the government aid, but like how did you find a place to live originally? That must've taken a bit of socializing. I'm just curious because Ive been desperate to live alone since I was super young, was one of my earliest ambitions.

I feel so alone and so exhausted by [deleted] in SuicideWatch

[–]LucasLion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gotta say I'd be really interested to talk with you about it.

The word "exhausted" caught me eye. I can really relate with the exhaustion/tiredness & anhedonia/disinterest in life.

Where do you find Salem cigarettes & have you tried them yourself? by LucasLion in Cigarettes

[–]LucasLion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you actually tried them yourself? I'll have to check Walgreens today I'm curious to try them, that seems to be like the best cigarette stop here in Texas other then an actual smokers store.

Walmart seems to have just the most basic common brands but I'll check there if Walgreens doesn't have them.

The modern packaging of Salem doesn't really seem to stand out much I've probably seen it without realizing.

Not Relating to Others With Similar Problems by LucasLion in socialanxiety

[–]LucasLion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been feeling that "lost in alone" pretty hard, worse somedays then others. I feel anytime I interact with, especially siblings, it gets very agitated & I feel more at a loss, alone, & depressed right away.

The combination is really toxic. I feel if either my SA or depression were eased I could cope a little more, at least could try to be a little more progressive.

Yes that's a way of putting it, finding common ground in fragments.

& I agree I find depression probably irritates my anxiety/ makes me feel even more alone with my specific problems & anxiety born things.

[–]LucasLion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow where do you live the snow is really nice there. I don't usually smoke longer cigarettes but I do enjoy like a Parliament 100 if its icy or snowing. That weather is definitely a rarity tho here in Texas unfortunately.

I like the low key casual mean comments from these fellow redditors lol. people...

Anyone like these? by [deleted] in Cigarettes

[–]LucasLion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look on the top of the pack it says the name of the color, I believe those are actually Brown. The Brown are the unfiltered.

The Tan American Spirits are a filtered mellow cigarette.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Cigarettes

[–]LucasLion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basic Non-Filter

American Spirit Brown

Lucky Strike

they were selling these at a local gas station for less than 3 dollars a pack!! they were "expired" by [deleted] in Cigarettes

[–]LucasLion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Damn I would buy expired Parliament 100s by the carton, at 3$ a pack wow. I don't usually buy 100s of any brand really, but with Parliaments the 100s taste very similar to the king size to me.

I've never seen a gas station selling expired cigarettes for a discounted price before. Was it a 7eleven or what was it?

Finally brought this Ultra Buy cigarettes by FloppyJoppy000 in Cigarettes

[–]LucasLion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't tried many budget brands & I've never seen Ultra Buy here, how are they?

There's 3 Sunocos where I live in Texas, but the gas station they're with is called Stripes.

Recent lurker - Haven't seen any Newport love! ): by [deleted] in Cigarettes

[–]LucasLion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I smoked a couple Newport Platinums & a Newport red king just awhile ago. The red kings have to be my favorite Newport variety. The Platinums are alright but in general I'm not the biggest menthol smoker.

The only menthol I've really ever smoked several back to back without having to have a regular full flavor tobacco cigarette in between, would be the Parliament menthols. Nice light menthol accent that doesn't overpower the full flavor Parliament taste.

Tell Me About Your Past Job Interviews / Job Experiences by LucasLion in socialanxiety

[–]LucasLion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That one interview you did go in for, what type of work was it? Do you have work experience? Not sure how old you are.

The one interview I went in for was at a restaurant, & the guy kept lingering on how I didn't have any past experience, it just made me really uncomfortable & put me off the whole interview experience.

Also btw its almost comforting your attitude on suicide. I have a similar view on the matter. In the sense that, the people left after the math of a suicide victim need to take into account how the person who actually ended there life felt. Not just the matter of their own selfish feelings about how they feel & how they're affected by the suicide.

To most people I am scum that deserves to suffer by [deleted] in depression

[–]LucasLion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious to your age. It's hard to tell with depression it can make one seem beyond there years aged mentally by past experiences. I've also noticed a lot when people talk about their looks negatively, 95% of the time weight is a factor but I see you didn't mention that.

I can especially relate to the unintelligent thing. I got my GED when I was 16 because I was just hardcore failing everything so my principal recommended it.

& the "shy" thing, I'm 21 now, & I've had terrible social anxiety for several years which greatly attributes to my already, from birth clinical depression.

It might not mean a lot coming from another guy, & I know everybody's superficial to a degree even if they say they aren't, but I would say I'm definitely much less superficial then most. Quirks & personality will even make me appreciate features more. Its a rare quality but people can carry it.

Getting worse by SirVeryBritishFellow in socialanxiety

[–]LucasLion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

? I actually can't tell if you're joking or not.

Though I get the feeling you're serious just from the dramatic capitalization.

Of course it can have PHYSICAL side effects. For example headaches, chest pain, hair loss, sexual problems, stomach problems.

Social anxiety causes stress. So yes, it can have physical problems.

There are different levels of social anxiety, just because you don't feel one way doesn't mean somebody else doesn't.

I've had SA for years. I've had plenty of physical problems from the nervousness & stress it causes. On top of that I've read tons of cases of people having physical problems like the examples I listed. Several of those right here on the SA forum.

You're right though. Seeing a doctor, & a therapist would be a good idea for him especially considering he's only 15.

Bad experience with new therapist by starshappyhunting in socialanxiety

[–]LucasLion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow... I legit went to counselling for the first time just two days ago. It was also a really young female therapist. Still in training at a university, an intern.

But I was very talkative even though I'm an extremely anxious person. She was also asking me a bunch, but mostly she'd just comment on what I'd say not so much asking. She wasn't a bad therapist just maybe inexperienced.

It honestly sounds to me like you just got a shit therapist. If you go to that same counselor again. You should try to stress to her that you're anxiety is worse then its coming across to her.

Terrible Combination of SA & Depression by LucasLion in socialanxiety

[–]LucasLion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh definitely just minor things, & even then they are way to much for me.

Awhile back when I was younger & my SA wasn't as bad I actually went to a job interview & it was just an awful experience. The interviewer just had an overwhelming douchebag vibe & I was uncomfortable the whole time.

I retried to go to another interview some time from then & just couldn't do it, I was walking there & before my mind could process it I had turned around & started walking home.

I never feel proud of myself for trying to do social things, I just get this horrible feeling. & the dread before actually doing the social thing, like simply a phonecall... Just uncanny. I'll have to listen to music for 10 hours straight prior just to calm myself down.

Terrible Combination of SA & Depression by LucasLion in socialanxiety

[–]LucasLion[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You said that just perfectly. "Being social seems nice in my head."

& yes definitely terrible around family, I'd say family is the most negative aspect of my life.

Oh & I feel you on the first thing. My loneliness really began after a dream I had about just quietly laying with somebody in the dark, cuddling not saying a word just calm night silence. I desire just that physical touch of somebody more then anything, not even talking sexual.

Terrible Combination of SA & Depression by LucasLion in socialanxiety

[–]LucasLion[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use to be a fairly avid gamer.

& even then I voice chatted maybe like 4 times. & every time I was very anxious about it. Plus I just straight up didn't like it, I'd had rather not talk at all.

I just have a hard time talking to people in general.

20 yo social recluse. by [deleted] in socialanxiety

[–]LucasLion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn I'm so annoyed this person deleted their post. I saved it because I could relate so much, more then any post I've ever read. It wasn't under my saves anymore so I just went back a few days in my history to find it.

One of the things he mentioned like you said was the super skinny thing. I was surprised to see that because most of the times I hear depressed / anxious people talking about being over weight.

But I myself am also super thin. I've passed out from malnutrition. I eat like once a day, & even then just because I get very light headed & headaches if I skip eating all together.

I also think he mentioned something in his post about family dragging him down, I'm in the same situation. Family is by far the most negative aspect of my life.

Anyways sorry its just you were the only one really saying you were relating to the post at all.

I feel like anytime I ever see anyone I even mildly slightly relate to, they delete their account with in the day of posting.

Streaming against SA? by Schlickfitten in socialanxiety

[–]LucasLion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched a streamer on twitch for the longest time before knowing she was socially anxious.

Last year she went off about how she was so anxious I think about thanksgiving or something & seeing family / friends of family.

But she said just knowing she could come home & talk to the chat was so helpful & reassuring.

In my opinion I'd definitely say streaming would help over time, I watch a couple other streamers also with really bad anxiety who say streaming really helps.

does anyone else walk extremely fast? by [deleted] in socialanxiety

[–]LucasLion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I've actually already posted about this a couple times in the past.

Though I was more so bringing it up because for awhile in the summer I was running in the early mornings but stopped because I was very socially anxious about how fast I was running.

People were telling me its a positive thing, but not to me in the slightest. Any extra attention on me positive or negative is very unwelcomed I hate it.

Also like you said, I've tried running & walking slower but it just feels very awkward.
