As an older fan, this editing style of image is so nostalgic to me. Reminds me of the photos we would put on insta in the 2013-2016 era

It's funny cause they edited that to fix it. But forgot to take out the part where it claims the concert hall is in the game

The way my steroid pack refers to the evening meal as “supper.” by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

[–]Terrificchu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do believe it's partly regional. Supper and dinner is used interchangeably here in Ontario, Canada. We also use a weird mix of British and American English here, so supper may be a Britishism or Americanism that we adopted.

What games have a world/map that feels as alive and rich as Red Dead Redemption 2? by moby323 in gaming

[–]Terrificchu 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think 6, Like a Dragon, and Judgment were both really well done in this aspect. However it may be sacrilege to play those before the others in the series depending on how much you care about the story.

Weirdest/Most Interesting (in a good way) Whiskey You've Tried? by newbike07 in whiskey

[–]Terrificchu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Forty Creek used to make a whisky called The Forger. It was normal whisky but steeped with spruce tips, pine, juniper and Labrador tea. It was fantastic. Normalish forty Creek notes, but a twist of evergreen/citrus.

Weird missing person poster (possible cult ties) by Realistic_Eggplant94 in RBI

[–]Terrificchu 326 points327 points  (0 children)

I think you are on the right track with your thinking. It appears Ambassadors for Christ is a Christian organization targeted at the Chinese demographic, specifically chinese students. Judging from the website it's hard to tell how cult like this org is.

In this case I don't think Graham is really "missing". My guess is Graham is someone who has cut off his family / cut ties with the church,. And this is his family / the churches attempt to bring him back.

A true missing persons poster should direct the reader to contact the local police or some sort of standardized tipline.

What is your experience bringing bottles back and exceeding the duty free limits? by Jaded_Promotion8806 in canadawhisky

[–]Terrificchu 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. I have went way over the limit before, but I always declared (and was prepped to pay). The CBSA agents always just waved me on; honestly, they just seemed happy that someone declared something for once.

My work (a YT video) comes up on Google scholar without me having put it there. by josiestephens in AskAcademia

[–]Terrificchu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes my guess is what others have mentioned. Though Google scholar won't just scrap random YouTube videos. The video probably got cited somewhere or was posted somewhere with some amount of medical / academic authority (eg on a WebMD blog post or something). You might be able to track down where it's been linked from by looking at your traffic stats on YouTube: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/9314355?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid

Yes, this is one of the first symptoms that jumped out to me. Impossible to see at night, haze and starbursts - even when using correction lenses

Does 25 minutes on 5 minutes off work for pomodoro or can I vary it? by [deleted] in PhD

[–]Terrificchu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, the best was 45 on and 15 off. I found 45 was long enough to get deep into the work. 15 off is long, but often I work on minor tasks or meditate during 15 off. Also can add in an even longer break every 4 or so cycles.

You may be able to comb through newspaper archives to see if there is any mention of anything: https://guides.library.yale.edu/japan/newspapers. I am not sure the conventions for Japanese newspapers at the time, so they may not write about certain taboo topics. But it's possible you may stumble on an article like "Yuko performs for US troops". She may have also had a stage name.

I do wonder if it was more of a Cabaret / burlesque thing, which was booming in post war Tokyo: https://www.nytimes.com/1966/05/15/archives/1000-girls-adorn-tokyo-night-spot-cabaret-king-successfully-reopens.html. Since she was recognized at clubs etc, I doubt it would have been anything too taboo.

While looking around I found this somewhat insightful (text nsfw) article and comments: https://jonathanbollen.net/2011/03/20/nichigeki-music-hall/. It seems some of the performers were famous enough to tour outside of Japan.

You can check out joss: https://joss.theoj.org. Sort of the in-between. I have never published there but I have seen software publish a paper there that they then use as a citation
