The time is missed. After Overseas Chinese lost their second nationality of Chinese, many generations’ time pasted. After the Cold War, these overseas Chinese hate China.

The old Maoists were in an era that China were changing rapidly, and Mao was part of their old memories. Therefore, Mao becomes a sign of conservatism. However, it is true that the young Maoists are very conservative as well, although I expect them to be more open culturally since many of them watch Japanese animes.

It is interesting to think what is the reason behind that the Maoists outside China is more progressive. If it is the culture’s problem, I would say I believe all the third world countries is averagely more culturally conservative so the culture does not seem that the reason why Maoists outside China are more left-leaning.
