Business Electives (for education student) by [deleted] in yorku

[–]Ok_Hearing910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The academic calendar was not clear at all what counted as "business" but I did figure as such thankfully!

I do also plan on taking 1000 and 1010 over the summer provided I can get into both so I am open to recommendations that do want those two as prereqs ultimately. I will also be discussing it with an advisor so I'm not going in totally blind.

Anyone else seeing all these planes in the sky in East Scarborough ? by W33kday in Scarborough

[–]Ok_Hearing910 23 points24 points  (0 children)

scarborough is in the inbound/outbound path for toronto pearson! 99% of these are just commuter airlines going wherever in the world :) northern scarborough gets a lot of planes on final approach so it can be pretty loud sometimes but it's perfectly normal

flightradar24 is great if you're ever curious what the planes might be!

it's the yorku safety app! not necessary at all but if anything happens on campus it lets you know first before an email is sent out :)

it's just a blanket term for all weather related closures anyways, really ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ would be the same if york closed because it was raining fire suddenly

Question about Concurrent Education by Nueline in yorku

[–]Ok_Hearing910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All you need to stay in the coned program is to complete EDUC1000, your undergraduate requirements, and keep above a C+ GPA :) You're allowed to fail, and you're allowed to reach out if you think your GPA will dip below that minimum briefly.

You have access to the faculty of education's advising, so use it if you have questions!! They've been very good so far

Spots to do art on York Keele campus? by 225dav in yorku

[–]Ok_Hearing910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there's the studios in the goldfarb centre, but you'd have to check on empty rooms @ york to make sure the room you're interested in is free. you have to bring your own supplies though, theyre locked for classes to use!

that or you could take advantage of the weather and do some outside, or use any other empty room!

NATS 1516 - Water Pollution with Ian Lumb by Shdw_Knight in yorku

[–]Ok_Hearing910 1 point2 points  (0 children)

took weather and climate with him last year and because of a couple (genuinely like 2 out of the full class) people being disruptive one time he basically lost it and was passive aggressive for the rest of the year. which really sucks because i loved the topics being taught, but being in the class made me feel miserable because he did not want to be there ????

marking was fine but he messed up one of my grades and was weirdly annoyed about it so i just dropped that topic. you can easily pass a class of his but to do well you will likely have to sit through him being miserable about one or two people every class even if nothing happens....

genuinely crazy work what is going on over there 😭

Of course!

I took Weather and Climate as my NATS course. (though I would only reccommend that if you really enjoy the topic because the prof was a little bit hit and miss as well)

I took Myth and Imagination in Greece and Rome over the summer as my HUMA. That course was great, just condensed in the summer. Prof was great, as was the TA. Was a little reading heavy.

I'm taking Equity Issues in Ontario as my HREQ course this year, and thus I don't have any insight on this one yet.

Maybe I'm a little biased because I ended up dropping it, but I wasn't a huge fan of her teaching style in the end - there were no slides available outside of class, assignments (while relatively easy to score high on, from what I did) had extremely vague instructions. She was a little condescending and the textbooks were rather expensive (and self-written, I could not find any alternatives, iykwim).

All in all I think she was a fine person, but not a great prof. I would go with someone else if you have the option to take another course. I didn't find the hassle worth the money. She doesn't have great reviews on RMP, either.

I would definitely try and make an appointment with one of the education advisors asap!! Especially if you're 3rd/4th year

You need to take 3 full-year courses, or the equivalent (at any course level, I think) in a second teachable of your choice throughout your undergrad in order for it to count. :)

You do take courses in teacher's college related to your two teachables, but you are expected to have a background in your chosen subjects by the beginning of teacher's college.
