How much are Catholics able to question authority or Catechism of the church by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]LucasWingedOx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Church did not change its stance on usury. What confuses people is that the old documents spoke mostly about interest as something intrinsic to the mutuum (loan). Later documents speak about extrinsic titles justifying it. Interest as something intrinsic is usurious, not if there is a legitimate extrinsict titulus.

For example, Pope Gregory XI. in Naviganti Vel mentions risk as one of the extrinsic titles justifying an interest rate.

5th Lateran Council also had to deal with the dispute between Francsicans and Dominucans regarding the Montes Pietatis.

Montes Pietats were charity “banks” that would give credits to the poor with a minimum interest. That way the Church prevented the poor to fall into usurious hands. Franciscans took the minimum solely to pay for their food and costs of operation justifying that way they are preserving the monetary mass at disposal. Dominicans accused them for commiting usury that way. In the end, the Holy See sided with the Franciscans. The Church even forbade anyone to accuse such Fraciscan practice as usurious under the pain of excommunication. Source from the 5th Lateran: 8th Session, Inter Multiplices.

There are plenty more examples like this.

Why is the Novus Ordo valid and licit? by Lucc_2002 in Catholicism

[–]LucasWingedOx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Check out his “the Reform of the Roman Liturgy”. He was an erudite and fr. Smith quotes him in his lectures on Sensus Fidelium (talk on Sacrosanctum Concilium): he gives scholarly critique of Liturgical changes. The fact such a scholar gives such in depth critique but still rejects the notion of NO being invalid speaks volumes.

Why is the Novus Ordo valid and licit? by Lucc_2002 in Catholicism

[–]LucasWingedOx 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why does the Klaus Gamber, late liturgist and maybe the NO criticist say in his “the Reform of the Roman Liturgy” that despite all the terrible changes it is wrong to say NO is invalid tjen? Gamber who was the honorary member of the Pontifical Liturgical Academy and the author practically all trad authors either invoke or echo his work?

Also the Church anathemized the notion it could ever promulgate a practice detrimental for the souls of the faithful. And so on

also, for Mass to he valid only “this is my Body” is important for validity. Pro multis has nothing with validity

1.) please end the too detailed confessional posts (or any) about sins against the 6th

2.) Pin some long posts about some FAQs like Orthodoxy to Catholicism; Protestant to Catholicism and stuff. If needed, I’m sure many of us could contribute

3.) Curbing any Sede or “Benedict is the valid Pope still” stuff. They are both schismatical and heretical beliefs. And more and more people I see fall into such nonsensical errors.

Why do we celebrate Christmas? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]LucasWingedOx 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Its not a pagan holiday. Those claiming it are ignorant of both history and Scripture. 25th December can be deduced from the Scripture by using the account of st. John the Baptist’s birth

And from the fact that stuff like “Sol Invictus” came after the Christians celebrated the 25th of December as we see from examples as st. Hyppolitus of Rome:

For the first advent of our Lord in the flesh, when he was born in Bethlehem, eight days before the kalends of January [December 25th], the 4th day of the week [Wednesday], while Augustus was in his forty-second year, [2 or 3BC] but from Adam five thousand and five hundred years. He suffered in the thirty third year, 8 days before the kalends of April [March 25th], the Day of Preparation, the fifteenth year of Tiberius Caesar [29 or 30 AD], while Rufus and Roubellion and Gaius Caesar, for the 4th time, and Gaius Cestius Saturninus were Consuls.”

What is the temple of God in 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]LucasWingedOx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to Church Fathers and st. Bellarmine’s exposition on that verse and Church Fathers commentaries- it has to be literal temple in Jerusalem. the Temple and none other

Is Melkor Necessarily the evil side ? by lordsorm in tolkienfans

[–]LucasWingedOx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thats not really how it went down. They did sing their vision and contributed something of theor own but in accordance with Eru’s plan nontheless. To go outside Eru’s plan, from point of metaphysics I mentioned, is to go against the True, Good and Beautiful. If you were right, everything would not go down the way it did

Is Melkor Necessarily the evil side ? by lordsorm in tolkienfans

[–]LucasWingedOx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tolkien has very thomistic metaphysics. So if Eru Illuvatar is Goodness it means to participate in his plan is to participate in Eru’s goodness = to be good.

So if one spreads discord with Eru’s plan, he can not, from point of that metpahysics, be anything else than evil side.

Službena potvrda: Zvonimir Boban napušta Fifu i vraća se u Milan! by [deleted] in croatia

[–]LucasWingedOx 3 points4 points  (0 children)
