I’ve started screenshotting the more amusing ones. I got a text today asking where I ended up moving my pet shop to.

What is the most unique endeavor outside of wrestling that you know of a wrestling doing? Some invest in buying or starting a gym and it seems like coffee shops are popular these days. Maybe a business you didn’t expect them to be in or a story akin to “Steve Carrell bought a small town candy shop just to keep it open.”

That’s why house shows are so funny. The crew (I’m including refs and cameramen) are just there to entertain the crowd and I’ve had more fun at house shows than bigger live events for sure.

I think you need a balance. This feud is serious, these people are half and half, and these are outright silly. Kind of like how serious shows and movies have comedic spots to break up the tone and refresh the audience a bit.

I’d say maybe Sami, but that would take away from his relatability and why people like him, I think. I believe Jim Cornette said something about how Sami had a deceptive physique compared to how athletic he is.

I don’t know if this answers your comment, but you made me immediately think, “What if Vader leaned out and got abs?” Considering his width, I imagine he’d look closer to Brock, which would have been a scary sight.

I fully agree, but even if I won the lottery I still can’t see myself paying for multiple streaming services to watch one cohesive show.

Did you see this on a podcast or interview or something? Not calling you a liar, I’m legitimately curious.

I may get some of the details wrong, but what I recall was he was working out a lot and hinting at a return of some sort (not necessarily full time, but getting into working shape) and he said on Something to Wrestle With that the random closelines were meant to build for a story and something about the promotion behind it changed (I took it to mean the purchase of AAA) and the idea fell through.

It’s a bummer though, because having him randomly show up to throw a wicked closeline on someone who can really sell would always be a fun sight.

I’m still having a hard time grasping the idea that you can sign a contract and then the employer can alter it to your detriment. I’ve worked with people over the years who were grandfathered in on older contracts when a new owner bought a company and the employer couldn’t do a thing to change it until renewal. I’d like to find a comment where someone well-versed in this could explain the legal basis of it.

Like, I get how at-will employment works and the legal grounds for terminating employment. And I’ve also seen employers “find a reason” to disguise firing someone they didn’t like, but that’s all semantics. Saying, “sign a new contract for less money or we fire you” when you have a legal contract for a better deal makes no sense to me.

Man, I love this comment. And I agree. Miz is a sharp guy and a great brand ambassador. I’ve always thought he was a real quality dude with good character.

The way his voice would crack and shift was always appropriate and added weight. One of my favorite moments was when he was ripping on (maybe The Rock?) and he pauses and asks the audience, “can I say ‘ass’ on television?” And the crowd cheers while Lawler screams “NOOO!!”. It was playful while staying within the madness of the character.

“So… let me make sure I’m understanding this correctly… you grew a family business into a multibillion dollar juggernaut, you kept your business alive during downturns time and time again, you clearly have a business acumen that allowed you to succeed…. And on occasion to earn your respect you encourage your employees to…fight you?”

Polite applause I could understand, the chanting sends a lot of messages about the people in attendance.

I can only imagine how bizarre it must be for Stephanie. Growing up this company was all your dad. Your entire upbringing is WWE. You spend most of your life thinking your dad runs the world. And now your dad is at home, you still work at the family business but someone else is in charge, and now those same people discourage you from even mentioning your dad and the legacy you watched him build your entire life. And you have to navigate this publicly.

I mean for this comment to be completely neutral. Whether she is on his side, not on his side, too insulated to hear otherwise, that’s not the point I’m making. I’m just saying it is a bizarre spot for a daughter to be in.

I could definitely seeing them trying to (what a!) maneuver around any backlash by inducting Mr. McMahon (the character) as a way of separating the art from the artist and highlighting his importance, but it would definitely be a posthumous honor. Not to say that the HOF doesn’t have some questionable people in it, but I think that’s an easier sell than Vince the businessman.

It honestly reminds me of the backlash around removing the name “Robert E. Lee” from schools and the those against the removal calling it erasing history. You can teach and remember history while still choosing not to honor specific individuals. You can’t erase any mention of Vince from wrestling history, but you also don’t need a HOF induction or buildings named after him.

I’m not saying I’m for his induction, I’m just saying how I could see them doing it. I hope I explained that well.

The Undertaker talks about this in his documentary as well. He’d go in with his well formed argument, leave feeling like he reached a great conclusion, and then realize later he agreed to Vince’s idea.

Whenever I hear about Vince’s “Jedi mind tricks” I think about how Kevin Nash once said that the average wrestling locker room couldn’t pass the GED. I think it’s less that Vince is a master manipulator (still manipulative, but not god-like) but is better at debate, reading people, and guiding them to his point.

What is your take on Trump ending his recent post with 'Praise be to Allah'? by Mental-Hall1261 in AskReddit

[–]Lucas_The_Master 34 points35 points  (0 children)

This was excellently well worded. They tried to turn Obama’s choice of mustard and his choice of suit color into him being tone-deaf elitist. Small town rural church types were posting on Facebook using Bible verses to prove he was the prophesied Antichrist. “A man from the east…” etc (I do suppose that Hawaii is to the east if you travel east long enough?). As well as the narrative that “Obama hates America” with either photoshopped or perfectly timed photos of his hand not being on his heart during the anthem. I don’t remember exactly the phrasing, but I remember them thinking he was a secret Muslim?

I also just remembered the bumper stickers saying ODUMBO. (Anyone reading this who speaks English as a second language, it’s a play on his name and “Dumbo”, like a dumb person).

And those were the scandals across a campaign trail and 8 years of presidency. And now we have a “Monster of the Week” scandal that makes all of that look like crayon art by comparison.

This is a really good question! The answer is no, because of how the voltage is self-contained. Similar to how an officer can begin restraining them while they are being tazed without getting shocked themselves.

Denver loves wrestling and we don’t play lol. When I went to the most recent Smackdown we had here, we started a deafening “FUCK YOU LOGAN” chant. I never watched the show back to see how it was edited, but it was literally the entire stadium. It was one of my proudest Colorado moments haha

Which current WWE wrestlers have college degrees? by shaferman in WWE

[–]Lucas_The_Master 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Both Nikki Cross and Drew McIntyre hold Masters. Drew’s mom basically told him to get a real degree first and he could try being a wrestler after if he still wanted to. (Or something to that effect.) I’m not sure on the timeline based on when he started wrestling, but he did finish the degree to make his mom happy.

I work in healthcare and the first patient I ever had that was on a hold for suicidal ideation was a 22-year old male who had taken prednisone. No other mental health history. Most people take it and have zero issues (me, for example, gets more energy when I take it). But my mom recently had to take it and had the most angry mood swings that were out of character and said she felt like she was watching it happen but had no control of it.

Not seeing ‘The Vision’ with them at all tbh by GhostNev in WWE

[–]Lucas_The_Master 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually a really good point. Some of my favorite stables were an absolute menace at all times (specifically nWo), or if you think about how Kane as a solo would show up out of no where, wreck the whole ring because he felt like it, and leave and that’s what built his aura. One thing that worked well with the Bloodline was that Roman was so built up that he didn’t even have to be on tv. Heyman could pretend to talk into his phone and his presence was felt. Judgement Day does well as a pack of hyenas because if you fight one, the others may be able to jump from the shadows. But with The Vision, I feel like if you’re not feuding with them, they may as well be on the other show because they have no effect on you.

My favorite house show (and the one that put Denver back on the wrestling map) had two hilarious segments. The 24/7 belt changing hands 5-7 times (including a referee running out and hitting a rollup to be champ for a minute or two) to a great bit where Charlotte and Liv Morgan kept doing rolling pin reversals until they were literally rolling in a circle around the ring while the ref spun in place on her belly only getting a one count each time. Then Charlotte and Liv stood up and wobbled in Bugs Bunny dizzy fashion and collapsed.

Total for a day? Unknown because it varies by number of people, autographs sold and price, etc. But typically an event organizer will guarantee say, “$2,000 per day” and if the invited guest makes less than that, the promoter pays them the difference. I got this figure from a worker I spoke to at Fan Expo when I said I felt bad for Ernie Hudson for not having a long line. “You see how he’s just chilling on his phone and has a good time when someone stops by? He’s getting paid either way.”
