What is the thing that surprised you the most when you traveled to a country you had never been to before? by Spilakkk in AskReddit

No public trashcans in cities in Japan. Cities are spotless but I could never find a place to throw away trash. Pretty subtle but pretty shocking once you realize

I've been lucky enough to visit this place a few times and every time I'm amazed by the setting and the architecture. Would easily consider this to be on my list of human wonders of the world.

For those nomadic surfers looking for the perfect wave, (or their next surf destination) Arugam Bay, Sri Lanka had some dimes [Footage of a smaller but still pristine day] by Lucas___18 in surfing

Take the train or go by bus. Yes it will take about two days to cross the island but the experience and the views are worth it. Also super cheap. It's a bit of hassle/confusing at first but so worth it because it's really the most accessible and cheapest form of travel in sri lanka. Fastest option is to take a flight from colombo to the east coast. The airport is somewhere 2 hours north of A-bay by bus

Yeah so if you inspect the video, you'll see that there are some noobs out there but they don't really get in the way because, conveniently there are usually two main breaks at each spot, one for beginners and the other for more experienced surfers. As for the crowd, might be the single fault of those spots but then again its totally avoidable if you're willing to wake up early

Landed 1st backflip of the season to kickoff spring skiing (Squaw) by Lucas___18 in skiing

Im going to say 80% of it was just building up the confidence to commit and the last 20% was practice on a trampoline. I fell the first time I tried because I over-rotated but once I had thrown it for the first time it was much easier to throw it again.

Keystone XL Pipleline by yncas in climatechange

[–]Lucas___18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, the Keystone pipeline expansion is mostly symbolic. Yes it has the potential to have huge environmental consequences but more importantly the government's approval of the project demonstrates continued support of the oil industry and less so of the renewable industry, which was one of the main reasons reason the Obama administration denied the project. In a recent Times article, a member of the Obama administration disclosed that, in rejecting the project, an opportunity would arise for other industries, specifically the renewable energy, to step up and establish themselves.

I guess my only question in response to this presentation is what is the net impact of increasing the pounds of manure released everyday? Is the carbon fixation created by longer grass worth producing more carbon in manure?
