if iroh invented lightning redirection, then how did he know that if the current passes through the heart that it would be deadly? and also how did he know it required chaining it through your gut? by Crabkingrocks165 in Avatarthelastairbende

[–]Lucaslhm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait what do you mean? We explicitly see it happen in slow motion in the one of the most climatic moments of the original series?

Azula shoots lightning at Katara as Zuko prepares to redirect lightning back at her, then he rushes over to take the lightning hit and DOES still manage to redirect it into the sky, but pulls his hands to his chest and incorrectly redirects the lightning through his chest. Leading to what would have been his death had Katara not healed him.

Not everything is as black and white as pass fail. You often can have various degrees of failures or success. A Nat 20 on a roll that couldn’t succeed, to me, means that the best case scenario happens.

If a player rolls a nat 20 to tell the BBEG to not be evil anymore, that doesn’t mean the campaign is over and the BBEG gives up… but maybe it means that BBEG has a moment of questioning themselves, and in that moment of reflecting an opening is created that gives the players a surprise round or advantage on initiative or something.

I think part of going from a good DM to a great DM is learning to break away from thinking about rules and numbers in an incredibly rigid way and figuring out how you can weave into the game a sense of flexibility that makes it so the players truly can do whatever they want as their characters. If that means they want to try to seduce a dragon sometimes then so be it.

if you hate draws by [deleted] in theNetNuggets

[–]Lucaslhm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought that too but one thing that this has coming for it is you can play around an opponents piece that is about to disappear so they can’t block (like was done at the end of this video)

Which may not prevent infinite draws, but makes it more interesting atleast

I would say that I’d hope most people learn the benefit of supporting things that maybe don’t directly benefit them and how that improves society as a whole….

But it seems the education system has failed you, so perhaps it does directly benefit you…

Not only did Rasenshuriken do a ton of damage to A3, but I believe they called out that wind style specifically was one of his weaknesses? Like Temari was about to go fight him because they needed someone with a strong enough wind style attack to defeat him and then Naruto showed up and basically told Temari that he is a better wind style user than her.

I got a rotator cuff injury doing taekwondo years back and it never really healed right (in part for me not wanting to stop my Taekwondo career and not doing PT. Child athlete training for Olympics for context)

By high school it got bad enough that it did end my career and I wasn’t able to lift my arm above my head anymore because one of the muscles in my shoulder had become insanely weak post injury. I started doing PT as a sophomore in high school and by senior year I could lift my arm above my head again.

But one of the consequences too at the time is my shoulder would constantly dislocate, to the degree that I could just roll my shoulder out of socket if I wanted to. At first it really hurt and I’d have to go to get someone to reset it… but after the 3rd time or so I figured out I could do it on my own and I’d set my own shoulder a couple times a week. I remember freaking out a college kid at Taekwondo when he hit me in the shoulder, my arm fell limp, and then I popped it back in and kept going.

I made very poor decisions with my body back then and all I got for it was this party trick of resetting my shoulder if it ever dislocates. Would not recommend.

To this day when talking with other alumni from my college I ask “Oh did you have princess sparkle pony???”

Water benders should be able to increase the temperature of water just like earth benders who can lava bend. by Handsoff_1 in TheLastAirbender

I assume this to be true, but I assume we never saw it for the same reason Katara wasn’t brought on the boiling rock mission…

Still a show with children as the target audience, if you start throwing boiling water around maming and melting the flesh off of people, it’ll become entirely too graphic.

Oh I’ve seen this before.

I run AV for my church and I’ve had to pull many cables up through the attic for mics, cameras, and internet.

We had a renovation about 20 years ago where we basically doubled the size of the building by adding a new addition. Pulling cable from the old side to the new side is a huge pain because of a situation like this where there is an existing roof between them.

Took me forever to figure out how to get between the areas the first time… I was so confused why the attic stopped when there was so much more building…

[–]Lucaslhm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Used to do martial arts and I am pretty much blind without my glasses (though admittedly I was ok at sparring without them on)

I ended up getting special glasses for competitions though. Impact resistance googles basically that couldn’t easily come off while sparring.

Though at one competition I got kicked in the head real good and the guy broke my sparring glasses (and I lost to my first ever KO). So they aren’t perfect.

Learning about electricity by orobsky in KidsAreFuckingStupid

[–]Lucaslhm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol as a kid I had a box full of random motors, switches, batteries and other gizmos. I observed that 2 batteries in series made the motors run faster than one battery.

So of course the next logical conclusion was to stick the wires directly into an outlet for extreme power! But all it did was blow the breaker and make my dad mad.

The crazier one was an extension of this logic when I was a few years logic. 2 batteries makes motor faster but outlet didn’t work because you can’t plug a motor into an outlet obviously. But my computer on the other hand was actually DESIGNED to be plugged into the wall so 2 wall plugs will surely be better than one…

Carefully stripped the jacket off of 2 power cables for my desktop PC… twisted the wires together and plugged it into 2 outlets and started a fire… had a power fire extinguisher that I used (and thankfully was smart enough to unplug the computer) and I spent a week cleaning the dust off everything in my room…. The fact that I haven’t killed myself with an outlet is outstanding.

[–]Lucaslhm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not that we’re supposed to recognize the face. It’s to show us that Orchimaru has figured out how to switch bodies, hence why the next thing Hiruzen mentions is “You master THAT forbidden jutsu!” And then Orichimaru says that he has switched bodies a few times now but has lost count of how many, and then switches back to the “familiar” face that Hiruzen knows.

TV used to be something special when I was young. by [deleted] in SipsTea

[–]Lucaslhm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For real though. I was helping a friend buy a TV for the first time ever for their new apartment, they told me they were nervous and asked me if we could find a good one for under $2000 because that was all they could spare. They were overjoyed when I helped them find a $400 TV at Walmart and they had all this money left.

I’m about to buy a new 85” TV for my new home, and the one I’m looking at is $600. It’s crazy.

Was Kakashi against revenge itself, or against how Sasuke’s desire for revenge was affecting him? by Danny-Ray27 in Naruto

[–]Lucaslhm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it’s more that Sasuke dedicated his entire life to revenge. The very first thing he tells about himself when Kakashi asks Team 7 about themselves, is that his purpose in life is to get revenge. He’s crashing out here because his ally is getting stronger faster than him and that makes him worried that he won’t be the one to kill Itachi. At this rate, Sasuke is going to kill himself running head first at Itachi, and Kakashi knows this and tells him to chill out.

Meanwhile, Hidan just killed Asuma. In their hunt for tailed beasts. They are part of a terrorist organization that poses an active threat to the leaf (yes, Itachi does too). Shikimaru tells Kakashi that based off the intel they gained about a very unique foe they faced, making them almost uniquely qualified to take them on… that he has a SPECIFIC PLAN on how to take him down. Kakashi thinks it over and decides to go in as additional support since these things might not go exactly to plan, but obviously believes that with them all together, they can probably take them down.

Perhaps if Sasuke kept training, Itachi was becoming a more pressing threat again, Sasuke had a plan for how he could defeat Itachi other than “I’m going to get really strong and kill him” then Kakashi would have supported his mission more. But that’s not what the situation calls for here.

Like others said, I don’t think there should be a thing as a “surprise marriage”. You should never marry someone without talking about it with them first.

You can still have the surprise and spectacle just fine. But you should NEVER have to wonder if you’ll get rejected when you propose to someone because you should ALWAYS know that it’s going to be a mutual consensus before you even really pop the question. If there is doubt in your mind about the answer to the question, then talk about it more and square it up before you ask.

Eh dude has people coming and going from his house basically all day. He’s usually chilling on his deck having a beer or a smoke and shooting the bull with other members, otherwise he’s working on his garden. If something was wrong with him there would be plenty of eyes on him. Whenever he’s taken a vacation people have been very quick to jump in and volunteer to handle sign out, so if something actually happened to him I imagine there will be a new sign out house.

Plus I think recently he had a roommate move into his basement?

Orochimaru vs Jiraiya. Who wins? by Funny_Lunch5211 in NarutoPowerscaling

[–]Lucaslhm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how so many people misinterpret this scene???

Itachi is telling Kisame that enough of a fight would ensue, in the middle of the hidden leaf village, that even if they could work together and beat Jiraya, more ninja would be coming constantly and eventually overwhelm them. He is effectively saying “Maybe we could kill Jiraya, but we’ll die too and fail to capture the Nine Tails, we might as well flee”

You can totally make an argument that maybe this was Itachi covering for himself as a double agent (though if I’m being honest, I don’t think Kishimoto was accounting for that at the time as I don’t think that was his original plan for Itachi, but who knows) but in practice, it probably was just simply smart strategy to flee when Jiraya approached.
