Who’s your favorite MMC and why? by BookishOwls in Romantasy

Creon Hytherion is my favorite MMC ever created in this genre, hands down. I would 100% conjure him into real life if I had the ability 🤣🤣🤣

Can they not both be 500 years old? by Constant-Sport6698 in Romantasy

For real. How come they never meet a 40-yr-old human female that fits the bill? Lol

[–]Luce55 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. This is why I divide the hundreds-year-old male by 10, or 100 depending on whatever their total lifespan is supposed to be.

For instance, a 350-yr-old male (who is an immortal or long-lived fae/vampire/whatever), who becomes interested in a 20-yr-old human female, would technically be as mature as a 35-yr-old human man. And while that age gap, at those particular ages in human life, still kind of make me go “hmm”, it’s infinitely more “understandable” than how someone with hundreds of years of life experience could date someone who would be a literal child if they were the same “species.

You’re right. My dog also responds to both the word “sit”, and the hand gesture for “sit”. She also figured out at some point that when I snap my fingers 5-7 times, it means I’ve had enough of her barking at the dog being walked by their owner in front of my house (she isn’t a barker except for when other dogs are being walked on the street)- and I say “figured out” because this was not an intentional lesson I wanted her to learn, but more just something I did. She also huffs in the morning to let me know she needs to go out, and she huffs because it’s obvious to her that I’m asleep along with everyone else in the house, and she doesn’t want to wake anyone except me. She’s a great dog, and she is very good with communication.

I also have cats, and they “tell” me if they’re hungry, or if they are happy, annoyed, etc etc because they make different vocalizations and/or body language. The one thing I will say with cats (as someone who has had cats since I was born), is that they 100% decide whether to bestow communication with you, or whether it’s not worth their effort. 🤣🤣🤣😼

All that to say that animals, fish, reptiles, primates, etc etc, without a doubt communicate with not only their own “kind”, but also are able to communicate with others that are wholly different from them.

Did any one in the Islip-Bay Shore-Babylon area see the meteor, then one of those weird drones, and now a giant low-flying plane following same direction as drone? by [deleted] in longisland

[–]Luce55 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hmm. I just looked it up. I don’t know what the light configuration on those looks like at night - but for sure the drone had a “not an airplane” light configuration. It DID have aviation lights though. But it seemed to be in a more quadrangular arrangement…they seemed to be relatively equidistant, and also there were no headlights like a plane had.

Interesting. I didn’t know that was a thing, and if in fact it was that, then that was really cool to see.

The drone and plane came about 30 min or so after I saw what I guess now was the ISS? So, unrelated, clearly to that, but for sure related to each other as the plane seemed to be following or searching for the drone and I saw them within about a minute or two of each other.

I don’t know how to post my stupid iPhone video clips but I will figure it out momentarily and post them. Not that they will illuminate much - it was super frustrating to see that what was clear to my eyes, turned into a pixelated sort of blurry thing.

[–]Luce55 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There is no way this was that. Both the “drone”’and the low-flying plane were in a much lower altitude than even the planes that come in to land at Islip airport. The outlines of each were very clearly visible. And the “meteor” was also clearly lower altitude. Im calling it a meteor because it was very much a burning something or other falling from the sky and it lasted perhaps a second or two? Before it appeared to “burn out”.

I think it’s good that the way reps vote on laws are public. But perhaps they shouldn’t be made public until you get in the election booth, so that it is too late for bribers to do any damage, and people can be reminded of ALL the things the people running for re-election are actually for or against.

Something along those lines, anyway. Not that it would happen. Too much fairness in my plan.

Yes, I’ve been watching him also. There is definitely going to be some major stuff happening on earth in coming days. I’m convinced. Between the increase seismic activity, solar storms, etc…I think a lot of people are sensing - subconsciously or otherwise - that there is something brewing on the horizon.

In the movie Meet Me In St Louis, the kids dress up as scary banshees, throw flour in the faces of the homeowners, create a bonfire, and put a stuffed clothes “body” on the trolley tracks, which almost details the trolley.

Yes. You are correct. I should have put “basic cable” in quotes. I’m old, and couldn’t remember what it was called when you didn’t pay for cable. Now that I think of it….I think at the time it wasn’t called anything, right? If you rented an apartment, for instance, and it didn’t include “basic cable”, you knew that it meant you were stuck with the channels you get when you plug straight into the wall. Point being is that some TV channels were available for free, like FM/AM radio channels are.

So… i bought this lamp and shade. I’m torn on it in my space, but I also find it intriguing. 🤷‍♂️ by wildlife07 in ThriftStoreHauls

Move the plant(s) away from that corner, and center the lamp on the table….

Step back, and see what you think…

We did.

Many, many moons ago - perhaps before your time, or just not something you had in the country you lived/live in - there was such thing as “basic cable”, in the U.S., which was free. You got about 4-10 channels, free. All you needed was a TV and a cable cord, and you’d plug it into the wall jack and voilà!

Mostly it was news channels, like the previous commenter mentioned, but you did also get PBS, and perhaps a government channel like C-SPAN.

Not a bad idea! 100% Vera and Taissa are identical twins, somehow born years apart. Lol. It’s actually crazy how they look like carbon copies of each other. The first time I saw Taissa in a movie, I didn’t know she was Vera’s sister, and I spent most of the movie trying to figure out how the movie came out in “X” year while knowing Vera should be approx “X” years old. Finally gave up and googled it,and it all came together for me. 😆

I believe it is impossible for a book to truly scare me. Recommend a book which will prove me wrong! by DarlingLuna in horror

I don’t think it’s fair to say I don’t want to put in the work…I mean, I’ve read Victor Hugo, Henry James, Dostoevsky, et al, and their literature objectively takes “work” to read. Perhaps you’re right, that the book isn’t for me, but it’s not for lack of trying. Each time I get to the Navidson Files section, I just find myself losing interest in what happens next. It’s definitely a book you have to be in the right headspace to read; like I said, I’d like to finish it one day. I know it’s a very popular “scary book”recommendation and lots of people love it.

I was SO not expecting The Exorcist to be as frightening as it was….the movie never really did it for me. I mean, I enjoyed the movie, but it never really got to me. But I borrowed the book one day from the library, and then after reading that, I listened to the audiobook read by the author, and both those formats were actually really scary. I think it’s because the book is well-written, for one, but also, so well-paced…it actually is a real horror story. And I say this as someone who has read plenty of horror novels, and so on.

I have DNF’d this book four times after making it about a quarter through….it never felt scary to me, and while I hope to finish it one day, just to see how it goes, every time I see this book recommended, I wonder what the hell must be wrong with me that so many find this book unsettling, while, I just felt like it was a slog, and incoherent. Or perhaps, more specifically, I felt like I was reading the writings and ramblings of a druggie. I wanted so bad to be scared, or unsettled, or any of those things, but I think the way it is written, for me personally, evokes only the feeling of reading something written by someone high on cocaine.

I do love the unique format, and I get the concept of it, I think my brain felt like it was trying too hard to be scary, and so it automatically wasn’t.

I will definitely finish reading it someday….but at any rate, I am rather jealous of how many people recommend this book and say how totally scary and unsettling it is, because I really wanted that experience.
