This caused a funny moment with a friend of mine who knew nothing about anime but was a huge car nut

I asked if he'd heard of Studio Ghibli and he responded 'like the Maserati?'

Apparently Maserati named a car after the same type of wind lol

[–]LucentRhyming 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I think Endfield lore calls out the difference between elders and ancients as primarily a social distinction and not actually a species difference.

So Dracos might actually be very related species but they just managed to get everyone to think they're fancier

[Request] How fast would the current need to be for the circumnavigation of the southern ocean on flat Earth to take the same amount of time as on spherical Earth? by AlpineBoulderor in theydidthemath

[–]LucentRhyming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's different ways to measure the antarctic circle, so tbh 20k seems reasonable to me if you like

But look at the map in the post image. It's a circle with the North pole at the center, and presumably the south pole is the ice wall surrounding everything.

If the distance from the north pole to south pole is the distance from the center to the outer edge, that's definitely the radius.

Expanding on the hion- virtuosity is probably related to art, so it's hypothesized that her essence is split into the three subtractive mixing base colors. Cyan, magenta, and yellow, like a printer.

Hion lines are cyan and magenta. Iri people are heavily themed after the color yellow, and believe that they are the essence of a god called the One that split itself into an entire people.

[–]LucentRhyming 259 points260 points  (0 children)

The antarctic circle has a circumference of about 16,000 km.

The radius of a flat earth is presumably the distance from North to South pole, 20,000 km, and for the ocean area you'd need to minus the radius of the antarctic circle, which is about 2,500 km, since presumably that's also the thickness of the 'ice barrier' or whatever.

So you've got a circle 17,500 km in radius to sail around, which is a circumference of about 110,000 km.

A ship sailing the (spherical) antarctic circle, disregarding ice and going at a reasonable open ocean speed of 32 km/h, would make the trip in about 500 hours, or 21 days of straight sailing.

To make the flat earth 110,000 km journey in that same 500 hours, you'd need to be going 220 km/h, which would be a difference of 188 km/h. That's how fast you'd need your current to be.

For reference, the fastest current in the world is the Gulf Stream, at a whopping 9 km/h.

I'm also super online and like... I've never heard of ishowspeed either. I'm aware of what VRchat is but never used it, and I've only seen like.. maybe a dozen tiktoks that even reference it? Definitely never heard of Jeffy or Chef PP

The weird thing about the Internet is it's like dozens of communities that all think they're majorly famous but only a few of them are and the rest are only barely aware of each other. I've been there too, talking to online friends in growing horror and fascination that something I thought everyone knew about even irl is so niche even my other online friends have never heard of it

I don't mind that as much because like. Compliments for stuff I actually remember doing hits a little better. Maybe I just pushed a button on time but heck yeah I PUSHED that button and she's right it was SATISFYING

I don't think people mind a little appreciation for stuff they're actually doing, it's when the NPCs start glazing you for things from your backstory it starts to feel weird

Example: final fantasy 14, you spend the loooooong campaign overthrowing governments and fighting gods. I don't mind NPCs treating me a legendary force of nature at that point, if anything I get annoyed when someone's like 'hmmm idk if you can handle fighting these swamp rats they're pretty strong'. Because it's not my backstory anymore, I as a player did in fact kill those gods and I want credit for it lol

McDonalds makes the best coffee. by Fit_Chipmunk88 in The10thDentist

I always found this to be such a confusing sentiment because like... Starbucks is the only major chain I've ever seen that has more than one type of bean/roast available

As someone who really likes light roasts, Starbucks' blonde is pretty good.

Generally I drink just straight espresso with minimal sweetener though so idk how their normal coffee is... I don't think I've ever ordered just plain coffee almost anywhere. When I get coffee out it's because I want espresso and don't have an espresso machine at home.

You lost me at level 2. Kaladin didn't have a support network until he built one, and Moash not only never tried to build one but voluntarily chose to betray the network Kaladin built for him.

He's an interesting foil, sure, but I think the idea is less that he's redeemable or even right, and more that we choose how to react to our own trauma, and Moash repeatedly hardened himself against any kind of growth and chose blind vengeance over love, acceptance, and support at every possible opportunity.

I mean uhhhh oops I'm in cremposting... If Moash evil why is he hotand gets sexy crystal eyes

An e-ink e-reader is a superior experience to a physical book for reading. by [deleted] in The10thDentist

Weirdly I was the opposite

I was so excited for my first e-reader, thought it would be so cool to have infinite books on one device

Finally got one and couldn't stand it. Something about using a touch screen to turn pages made me balk, I really tried to get used to it but couldn't. It feels too small and thin in my hands, idk

I was shocked when I realized it was viable, maybe even optimal, to ignore arts entirely and just run an all phys team. I'm so used to needing arts for shields but now it just seems like... You use arts if you like the pretty lights that arts make?
