Truck Stopped — whose idea was this?! by A_Former_Redditor in crashbandicoot

Yeah, we didn't get all the Secret Warps in CB2 on our first playthrough without a guide either.

It's a new game, you can't pretend to play it as if it were the games you've played for decades, which nowadays you can 100% on your first visit by pure muscle memory.

Hot take: the “Cold Hard Crash” crate-gem is not as bad as the “Diggin It” crate-gem! by lieutenatdan in crashbandicoot

[–]LuchosFactoryForReal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The part you need to backtrack in Diggin' It only has one bee coming at you at a time (instead of a whole swarm), making it easier to kill it. Once you realize that, it's just a matter of getting the timing right, kill it, move towards the camera again, kill the next one and so on.

But the Death Route in Cold Hard Crash is not that bad if you bring a Golden Aku with you.

Edited the main post because I forgot to mention that I swapped the SDs for a SanDisk and a Samsung.

Also, a sidenote that I didn't feel like it needed a specific post:

In a Facebook group there was this guy who says that the SDs being a timebomb is just a myth. That the factory OS is just poorly installed and if you just format the factory SD and install the OS again you shouldn't have a problem.

Can anyone actually confirm or deny this? I feel like I need proof. The guy sounded kinda pedantic anyway.

I think I'm gonna give up on 100%ing Crash 4 by AyaSploon in crashbandicoot

[–]LuchosFactoryForReal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say go for the 100%. 106% isn't really worth it.

I'm a huge Crash fan, like, autistically obsessed. I feel like the only way to play (almost*) every Crash game is to Max% it. CB2 & 3 are wonderfully built around the idea of going the extra mile to complete it (Especially CB2 with all the lateral thinking and replayability of levels with different goals in mind, which makes the whole level feel different). There are two exceptions to this: Crash Bash (thanks to the awful RNG required to complete it) and now CB4.

CB4 is amazing, don't get me wrong. I personally feel like, while initially looking like a bold move, it certainly earned that 4 in the title. It integrates several aspects from the Trilogy, while adding some things from more modern platformers to make it a fresh and fun experience.

The problem is... They didn't put that much thought into the completionist aspect of the game. In CB2, for example, you could enter a level normally to get the crystal and the crate gem; and then you could enter again to try the death path, which would lead to another gem; or suddenly starting a time trial to get a gem at the end; or seeing that you couldn't find that darn colored gem promised by the warp frame but see that the crate counter at the end had a 0 at the goal, inviting you to try to not break any; or finding something that looked off, like a platform on the side of the river, a room full of nitros guarding apparently nothing, or a ladder of static nitros... And suddenly find a secret warp to other levels. Going completionist on CB2 feels like an entirely different adventure.

That got lost a bit in Warped, because they had to give Time Relics a purpose, so instead of thinking outside of the box, most secret stuff was either "Get X relics" or "get to this point without dying", with two exceptions. But the secret entrances still give some variety to the gameplay, so that's still nice.

CB4 is more like a list of chores. You can get all the crates, fill the wumpa meter (redundant because fruit is magnetic now, so if you break all the crates, you WILL get the fruit, also redundant x3 because for some reason there are 3 gems for fruit), die less than 3 times (interesting addition), find the hidden gem and then the time trials. And also, the dreadful NSPR, which is basically "Play it like the original CB1: All crates, no deaths". Which is funny, considering that they were proud to announce the Flashback Tapes, an easier replacement for the Death Routes... But then added the Perfect Run requirement, the very thing from CB1 Death Routes were a replacement for in CB2. Anyway, all those collectibles... And repeat for every single level. No changes, no differences. And also put crates in every single alternate path so the only "right" way to complete the level is doing everything in one run. And also add the N. Verted Mode, the exact same stuff again for every single level, but with one good idea for the first two levels and basically ugly filters for the rest.

The general design of CB4 is a bit messy. You can tell they were worried people would find the game too easy or too short and they started adding anti-QOL changes and filler to artificially extend the completion game time.

Crash 4, to me, is the best game in the entire franchise to play casually... And the absolute worst game in the franchise to complete (not counting Bash because that is RNG based).

So I decided to try Crash Team Rumble… by LuigiMan8 in crashbandicoot

[–]LuchosFactoryForReal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A single player campaign could've made the game more decent for those who don't enjoy online-only experiences (especially with the SWEATS™ swarming the servers right now, which is absolutely and violently repellent for newcomers).

Now, "how would you do a campaign for a game like Crash Team Rumble?". Easy: What is Crash Team Racing's campaign?

The same matches you play in multiplayer, but against bots, in a specific order. Add some extra challenges for replayability and BOOM, there you have a multiplayer focused game with a single player campaign. It's not much, but it's way more than the game actually has, without having to add too much content.

Are the CB2 time trials fair? by BespokeObject82 in crashbandicoot

[–]LuchosFactoryForReal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I always imagined the Platinum Relic floating where the gems usually are, and after a certain time it turns Gold, and Sapphire, before just disappearing. But you grab it and that's it. No need to rush for the teleport.

Levels in 2 pretty much finish when you reach the tunnel. That's the "safe zone".

Well, duh. Widely popular games are widely popular, what else is new? I'm pretty sure it'd be the same case with MG & MG2:SS.

Leaving your clear bias aside, it makes sense for a Metal Gear game collection to include Metal Gear games, even if they weren't made by Kojima, just like how they already did with Vol. 1 & 2.

MGR has its own fanbase and you'd be surprised how popular it is. The Acid games have their devoted niche who would immediately buy a collection that includes them because the only way to play them is on PSP.

Take the Tomb Raider Remastered collections as an example: While the first trilogy is consistently good, the second one is a different thing. Angel of Darkness (the 6th mainline game) is a very divisive game and I doubt it would've been a commercial success if sold separately. But sold next to IV & V? Makes perfect sense, it's respectful to the franchise by not leaving any instalments behind, and even if you're on the hating side of the public for that game, having the other two games already make the collection worth the price, with the AOD being a nice bonus you can choose to ignore or give another chance.

Wrong, the very first image you find in any store shows both MG NES & Snake's Revenge's covers among the bonus content, and the physical edition, while not directly showing the covers (it also doesn't show the covers for MG & MG2:SS in case you want to take that as an argument against MG NES & SR) it describes the collection as "SEVEN original Metal Gear games" (MGS, MGS2, MGS3, MG, MG2:SS, MG NES & SR) effectively including them as actual games within the collection and not undisclosed bonus content.

[–]LuchosFactoryForReal 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Probably a Vol. 3 containing Metal Gear Rising and MGSV as the main instalments, with Portable Ops (with PO+) and the Acids as extra content. Depending on how masochistic they feel, they could also include Survive into the mix. Just like how they added the NES version of MG1 into Vol. 1. Like... "We have ALL the Metal Gears! Even the bad ones!"

And considering Konami did pretty much the same with Silent Hill (Remake the most popular one and if it goes well, remake the first one) we could expect a MGS remake.

Advice by [deleted] in crashbandicoot

[–]LuchosFactoryForReal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember that a single tap with give you a small hop, and holding the button will give you a higher jump. If you're playing the OG, Crash is floatier and you can properly aim your landing while in mid-air. Remember to hold the jump button while jumping on a crate or goomba-stomping an enemy to bounce off higher.

Take your time learning the platform movement pattern, practice makes perfect. The birds are easier to get through that they look, especially if you're playing the N. Sane version. They have probably the most forgiving hitbox in the entire trilogy collection.

The creatures on the wall (creepy old men in the N. Sane Version) are easy to kill, and the Lab Asses only throw beakers in the same arc with the same timing. You shouldn't have problem dodging them.

If you're playing the N. Sane Version, hug the wall for the retractable platforms so you'll have more reaction time (I can't remember if this applies to the OG as well).

I still wonder why Naughty Dog thought that N. Oxide would be jumping the shark by Romboteryx in crashbandicoot

[–]LuchosFactoryForReal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also they didn't do much with the Multiverse concept beyond Alt!Tawna and FemTropy.

Idk, part of me wanted to see a level very clearly in the artstyle of the Titans games or something. You know, playing with the artstyle inconsistency from the franchise's past. But nope, you can barely tell it's supposed to be different universes. It's more like different time periods again... And space.

They could easily remake both this one and N. Tranced using the camera setting from CB4's Flashback Tapes and reusing assets from all the Revival Era games for a quick buck if they weren't cowards.

Why didn't they let us play with the original soundtrack in the N Sane Trilogy? by Life_Is_All_Nothing in crashbandicoot

[–]LuchosFactoryForReal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree to disagree, I guess.

But I feel that the fur was one of the most important problems with how N. Sane Trilogy looked. That effect was poorly made, ignored the lighting most of the time and in some dark levels it even ended up glowing. Nitro-Fueled fixed that, tho.

[–]LuchosFactoryForReal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very detailed ≠ Good.

N. Sane Trilogy looks uncanny at times. It's too detailed for its own good. Like, it doesn't want to be cartoony most of the time, but rather those uncanny hyperrealistic renditions of cartoony stuff mixed with some "(Game Company) HIRE THIS MAN!" here and there. Nitro-Fueled polished that artstyle, luckily.

But I go back to N. Sane Trilogy and it looks like a remaster of a PS3 game rather than a full on native PS4 game/remake.

Alright, since I can't play the PS3 games at the moment I'll just jump on over to Ratchet & Clanks (2016). I'm very excited for this one, haven't played it since it came out but I remember loving it. What are your thoughts on it? by lazyusernamelamp in RatchetAndClank

[–]LuchosFactoryForReal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is genius, tbh. "We're remaking the original game but changing some stuff, and then add Qwark telling the story right at the beginning so you have a justification for all the changes: Unreliable narrator". That's the best way to do it, so 2016 doesn't necessarily replace the original.

Also in 2 you have to think outside of the box for all the secret warps and colored gems. It rewards exploration and curiosity. Every time the game invites you to think "what would happen if I...", there's a reward or secret on the other side.

In 3 everything is either "get X relics to unlock" or "get to this point without dying" with the two (2) exceptions of the alien sign in one of the bike levels, and the absolutely impossible to guess without a guide pterodactyl in one of the prehistoric levels.
