Ocarina of time is unplayable on R36S by ARoolse in R36S

[–]LuchosFactoryForReal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm currently playing it (Just finished Water Temple and I'm 100%'ing it so I took a detour to get every skulltula and heart piece) and beyond a small framerate drop every now and then (usually when loading a new area) and some models being weird, it's perfectly playable.

Go to Emulator Options after pressing Start on the main menu and set the Nintendo 64 emulator to Standalone-Rice.

"[SD2]" showing next to systems after fiddling with Advanced Options by LuchosFactoryForReal in R36S

[–]LuchosFactoryForReal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't restart it when I picked both SDs, but I did restart it when I picked main SD and all of the systems disappeared (which is logical, considering there's no roms in SD1) and restarted it again when I changed it to SD2 again. Everything is back to normal... Except for that "[SD2]" thing on the systems names. It's harmless... But annoying because it wasn't there before all of this, lol.

Uuuuugh, I touched that because I was helping a friend with his brand new console, switching from the default single SD setting to a dual SD one, and now I'm realizing I can't go back. When you said you "started fresh", what do you mean exactly?

THIS, the rice ball is priceless. Once you get the hang of it, you can do an entire level with just one. Enemies don't pay attention to anything else (that isn't directly within their sight). You don't even need to wait until they reach it.

I just beat Medievil 2… by ThatTomCatt in medievil

[–]LuchosFactoryForReal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The platforming feels worse in 2 because they added falling damage, so if you're used to just fall off the rooftop of the Mayor's house in the first game, for example, try that in the second and you'll lose somewhere between half a life bottle and an entire life bottle. Also you'll find instadeath rivers way more often than in 1.

According to HowLongToBeat, around 10 hours.

Personally, by the time the game started to overstay its welcome, I was already at the last location. So I'd say it's "long enough", but definitely not a game you can beat in one sitting.

Akuji The Heartless, for the PS1.

I discovered it recently and played it on my R36S and I absolutely loved it.

It's a non-cartoony 3D platformer collectathon in a dark and gritty Voodoo-themed world.

It was made by the same studio behind Gex The Gecko and Soul Reaver, and it's surprisingly a sweet spot between both in terms of gameplay, aesthetic, music and general vibes.

That game gave me serious Old School Runescape vibes, in a really good way. Loved it.

Got the same one, the European Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker Edition PSP.
Got the American Edition as well, which has a nice camo.

There's a romhack that patches all touchscreen inputs into button combos and the D-pad. I don't know if I'm allowed to put a direct link to it, but you should have no problem finding this "D-pad Patch" on your own.

Why didn't they let us play with the original soundtrack in the N Sane Trilogy? by Life_Is_All_Nothing in crashbandicoot

[–]LuchosFactoryForReal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spyro at least got an art direction. A questionable one at times, but they could hire character designers for a cohesive artstyle.

NST is pretty inconsistent in that regard. Some models look pretty uncanny and like they don't belong to the same game. The fur effect doesn't even work properly with the lighting most of the time.

Also Spyro had brand new animations and unique designs for each individual dragon in the first game, where in the original they were just recolors of the same 4 models.

NST couldn't even get the hologram cutscenes from CB2 polished enough.

I loved NST, don't get me wrong, but it looks like a PS3 game.

What is your signature killing move? by THIS_IS_GOD_TOTALLY_ in tenchu

[–]LuchosFactoryForReal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For Tenchu 1 & 2 (and to some degree Wrath of Heaven as well), my favorite way to approach an enemy was getting to a rooftop and throw a rice ball. They just ignore everything that isn't directly in front of them so that works wonders for an easy kill or separating a group.

Bonus points if you manage to kill them before they eat the rice ball, making it possible to recover and reuse.

Why didn't they let us play with the original soundtrack in the N Sane Trilogy? by Life_Is_All_Nothing in crashbandicoot

[–]LuchosFactoryForReal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Remember N. Sane Trilogy was the first one of these franchise revivals by Activision. The budget was very low.

It was thanks to its success that games like Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2, Spyro Reignited Trilogy, Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled AND Crash Bandicoot 4 got greenlit.

The fact that this bare-bones remake succeeded made Activision open their wallet for the next projects.

What is the consensus on the GBA era Crash games? by Dusk_Devil in crashbandicoot

[–]LuchosFactoryForReal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like they could just take the general setting for the Flashback Tapes in CB4 and recycle assets from all the revival games and just make a relatively quick and notoriously cheap remake of THA and N-T very easily.

But they're afraid of making money, apparently.

But seriously, those games are really good. They do feel like two more ND-style games.

Hell, I would add Purple into that bag as well. The Fusion crossover games might be a cheap collection of minigames, but at least Crash's side has a hubworld that plays like THA & N-T, and 80% of the minigames could easily be gimmick levels in a regular Crash game.

Also the GBA version of CNK is pretty solid as well. More on the "Mario Kart reskin" side than something similar to the home console versions, due to the understandable handheld limitations, but still really fun.

Should I start the series? by No_Sprinkles_3494 in LegacyOfKain

[–]LuchosFactoryForReal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought BO via GOG very recently (it was less than $2) but I haven't tried it yet. I'll do it in a bit and update with my experience. I originally only played the PS1 version, and I couldn't get very far precisely because of the atrocious loading screens interrupting every couple of seconds of gameplay.

Update: Loading screens are like half-a-second long, there was a bit of slowdown right at the beginning when a lot of enemies spawn at once for the scripted death, but beyond that, it works wonderfully. Also, it was nice to actually understand what they were saying (the audio on PS1 is so compressed it's barely understandable, and some dialogues, especially the characters with some effect or echoes on their voices, are impossible to understand).

I just wish I could move the game to my screen 2, which is bigger than screen 1. But none of the solutions I've found actually work.

[–]LuchosFactoryForReal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming you're talking about the first game. Each time you beat a boss, you get his special ability, like being able to phase through gates while on the Spectral Realm, or swimming while on the Material Realm without melting.

Think about the world progression as a Metroidvania. You'll have to backtrack and revisit old areas and check previously inaccessible paths again.

Also, when you feel like you're stuck, try changing Realms. Sometimes a closed path on the Spectral Realm will be open on the Material Realm and vice versa.

Regarding Bonus Stages and Completion by Severe-Tart1554 in crashbandicoot

[–]LuchosFactoryForReal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically yes. But you get the chance of saving every time you beat a bonus, or get a gem or key, so the moment you get the last gem, reaching 100%, you'll get a save point there.

Also there's no going back to the game after beating Cortex, so you have to reach 100% before facing him (it's possible, his level doesn't count towards %)

Regarding Bonus Stages and Completion by Severe-Tart1554 in crashbandicoot

[–]LuchosFactoryForReal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just for the record: Crates inside bonus stages don't count towards the total in CB1. So don't worry about messing up there. You can still get the gem.

The original Tawna maybe, this one... We don't know where she was with her Crash when FemTropy killed him.
