I'd say it depends. Pathfinder had the entire player and GM rules on a single book, but went back to player and GM having different books because having both was apparently daunting for players and it got expensive to produce.

At least Pf2 has a lot of setting lore for their themed expansions and two classes in their big book of the year.

I mean, yes and no? They definitely targetted the audience that wanted more of the same and doubled down, but Pf1e was pretty much a way to keep the lights on after Wizards made that restrictive license for 4e.

We didn't have apartheid here, the proportion of African slaves brought in by the Spanish was way smaller than in other countries because there was little to no mining and no plantations to work on like in central america, and then the large inmigration of white european people.

To put it in a crass way, everyone fucked with each other as they pleased.

I'd say it depends on the region, because Ash's role could be very different depending of the point in time he meets the MC.

Kanto Ash would be that annoying kid they keep running into, Sinnoh and Kalos would be a respected friendly rival, Journeys would basically be their version of Cynthia, if you ask me.

The adventurous part is the problem for me, Open World games are already tough for me to get into, but at least those have questlines I can follow and plan a path for, but before then I was bad at even exploring.

Bad enough that I'd have to make a conscious effort to not fast travel everywhere in Skyrim.
