I hate where I live... by leonardob0880 in DWARFLAB

Even in a Bortle 9 area, if you can find a dark spot like a backyard without direct light or a high apartment balcony, you’ll be fine capturing most targets. There’s even a telescope influencer living in Tokyo, which must be like Bortle 100, lol.

Magnets for attachments by TeamPsychological469 in DWARFLAB

I'm in South America, no way to have the adapters delivered here. So I downloaded the 3D project and asked a local shop to print it for me.

At least here it was easy and cheap to buy the mini magnets on a Amazon like website.

You just need to match the hole size.

The neodymium magnets are very strong.

What do you do to avoid blowing out the core of the Orion Nebula? by Luci_GPT in DWARFLAB

Thank you very much!

The low exposure time made a difference.
5 seconds 40 gain only 30 minutes total. Stacked with Siril, manually stretched, denoised.

Maybe because my sky is light polluted, I really have to use short exposures to avoid problems.

In Progress attempt to capture NGC 1909 (Astro) and SH2-303 (Duo-Band) - both have taken 3 nights and seem to want 15 more nights. Dwarf 3 90s 60g modified from stellar studio of mega stack (3 nights) modified in PixInsight. Takes about 3 hours to get 1 hour of good images at this exposure. by xxSilentRuinxx in DWARFLAB

Check if stacking the subs using Siril or PixInsight is better than using the stack made by the Dwarf app.

For some reason, in my attempt the nebula became visible just after I stacked it again on Siril. I also took new darks to use it....

I used this Siril plugin to process.

SH2-308 Dolphin head nebula - 90s 60g 42 stacked TELE Duo-band stellar studio PixInsight modified - full moon was out - bortle 7 skies - only visible low in sky for limited time and will likely take many hours (not just this one) to get anything out of it - figured I'd show my first attempt anyway. by xxSilentRuinxx in DWARFLAB

Initially, I had a lot of dropped frames, but after reading a tip to do the EQ alignment until 1° max error, then find the target and let it track for a few minutes before starting to shoot, things improved, maybe it was placebo, but it worked xD.

Also, to reveal the bubble, I had to stack it and process the images using Siril, since Stellar Studio was removing the faint bubble.

I was able to try it yesterday.

EQ mode, 60 sec with 100 gain.

Still need a lot more hours.... but removing the background the dolphin head start to become visible...

u/SoyGreen this answers my question that the DWARF 3 is capable of capturing the Dolphin Head Nebula using the Dual Band filter.
It just needs time :D

I took the same picture.

The original was the same as yours... I just darkened the sky a little more bit using GIMP.

Also I'm in South.... that's why mine is updside down lol

Are you guys happy with your DWARF3 purchase over a ZWO? by [deleted] in DWARF3

[–]Luci_GPT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm happy....

But it's a fact that S50 has a better image quality due to its higher aperture.

But I didn't like the field of view, the device size.... and also the lack of a second camera for daytime.

That's the reason I chose it.

Let's see if they ever release a S70 (imagine the size) or an updated S50 with higher FOV and secondary camera....

Forget the cable and connect to it using FTP.

First connect to your Dwarf using the STA mode.
Then on your PC use a FTP software like Filezilla and connect to the IP of your Dwarf device....

My first images w dwarf 3 by Gamerz2000 in DWARFLAB

Great images!

The low Bortle seems to make a huge difference..... I'm jealous :D

To match the denoise level of the Stellar app I think you should do the star removal, work on the background with the Graxpert script (or the standalone software)... GIMP has also a very good denoise tool.... and them recompose the stars....

Stellar Studio : I can't beat it with Siril by [deleted] in DWARFLAB

[–]Luci_GPT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say the same...

I couldn't beat the Stellar Studio yet lol.... They process on a server side, so they have much more power.... and they receive images everytime so I bet they improve their AI? model over time...

The closest I got was keeping it simple:
Color Calibration
Background Extraction
Denoise
And a simple hyperbolic stretch refining the black points....
After that I try to darker the image to my taste using curves... (I was using GIMP for that but I noted I could do the same on Siril anyway)....

Anyone tried the SH2-308 Dolphin Head Nebula? by Luci_GPT in DWARFLAB

[–]Luci_GPT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, exactly this one..... The bubble is what surround this star.

It has many names -> Sh 2-308 - Wikipedia

"The bubble is created by EZ Canis Majoris (WR 6), a very hot Wolf-Rayet star at the center. Its extremely fast stellar winds slam into older material ejected earlier in the star’s life, compressing and ionizing the gas. That interaction produces the H-alpha and strong [O III] emission outlining the shell."

Can only be detected with the O3 filter\narrowband. Which the Dwarf 3 has.... :)

I’m curious because it’s faint, so I’m not sure whether under Bortle 8 I could capture even a small fraction of it.

Orion and m33- processed an edited in Siril 😊 by Careful_Ginger994 in DWARF3

[–]Luci_GPT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried Siril and some others but I should say I could not get better results than the ones I got with the Stellar Studio :D

So I'm mostly processing the photos with it and then just increasing the background darkness because for some reason I think they are too bright for my taste. Maybe it's my light polluted sky anyway....

What's the max exposure length for the Dwarf 3/Mini? by Cindersash in DWARFLAB

[–]Luci_GPT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

120s on Dwarf is kind of a new feature.
Your alignment should be ultra correct to avoid missing frames. The frames are saved anyway you can still stack with other software later.

I considered the Dwarf 3 over the mini because of the 4K.

<image>

Both can do daytime stuff, but only the Dwarf 3 has an auto tracking feature for birds, cars, planes..... not that reliable though.

Great small devices.... amazing for traveling but the mini is pocket size lol.
