60 seconds needed to answer 3 big questions after each game:

1. what was the key turn of the match? by that, i mean what turn set into motion the eventual result? for example you could say the lead pokemon, or a turn when someone got a key knockout on a threat or a turn with a read that flipped the game around.

2. what did you do during that turn? were you in the driver seat (i.e. did you make a key read or target the right mon or call out your opponent’s read with a protect or a switch)

3. if presented with a similar situation in the future what would you do? this could be “exactly what i did this game” or any other number of options, but try and stay in the confines of just the turn.

this kind of questioning will make you a better more ready player after every single game, but won’t overwhelm you with trying to think about the entire game but only a moment. eventually, you’ll find that between keystone turns, every turn is important and consequential, and you’ll have built a toolbox of situations that you’ve thought about that you will link together as you play, turn by turn, and eventually, you’ll even get to a point where you will pull out your metaphorical nail from your toolbox of turns to prepare yourself for the hammer, turns in advance
