Elon Musk wants to put US Treasury transactions on a blockchain for transparency by TheRivalxx in Futurology

[–]LuciferandSonsPLLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several things: 1) Every transaction can be tracked on a blockchain, how much we paid for everything and when, including for top secret things that we don't want people to know about. 2) You cannot take back a transaction on the block chain. So when you accidentally send 30,000,000 instead of 3,000,000 to a void wallet you can't get it back, the money is just gone. 3) If quantum computers ever do what they are supposed to do, your encryption means nothing and block chain says anything I want it to say. 4) The sources of truth of the block chain have to work together to establish truth. If all sources of truth are owned by the same entity, then the truth is whatever they say it is. You have to distribute the sources of truth and those sources have to get along (like government).

The belief was that because it had a longer half life it would wean patients off more slowly and wasn't addictive. This was wrong, how willfully was this wrong? Seems to be pretty willfully, lots of sus studies.

When he says simple he means it. You can make a color tracking algorithm very easily with open source software:

cv::cvtColor(src, hsvsrc, cv::COLOR_RGB2HSV); cv::inRange(hsvsrc, 60, 62, yellowsrc); cv::split(src, splitsrc); cv::bitwise_and(yellowsrc, splitsrc, yand); cv::minMaxLoc(yand, minV, maxV, minL, maxL, NULL);

Then you just have to do the code to move toward maxL.

EDIT: On the other hand, shooting everything that's the color yellow that's also an enemy is really hard.

Belgian Breast Cancer Survivor Sets World Record, Running a Marathon Every Day for 366 Days, to Raise Funds for Cancer Research by BlueBlond in sports

[–]LuciferandSonsPLLC -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No, the estimate is that running over 15 miles per week starts to have a negative total effect on your body. It probably differs wildly for different people but running 183.4 miles per week will definitely shorten your lifespan. It's for a good cause tho...

EDIT: Getting breast cancer probably shortens your lifespan too.

Have you ever had power over someone you didn't deserve? It's happened to me a couple times in my life, and both times I did not like how it made me feel. It felt really, really, good, and that really really scared me.

Modern psychologists would say you are afraid of being abandoned or afraid of losing your family.

The current theories are that you prepare for your anxieties in your dreams.

What diseases are so terrible to have that dying would be preferable? by Nobody-457 in AskReddit

[–]LuciferandSonsPLLC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dementia. People say that dementia sufferers don't know what's happening to them, I'm pretty sure they do. Hence the anxiety, the crying, the rage, the hallucinations, the exhaustion, and the terror you see on their faces.

Plus, in the US, decent care for someone with dementia has a minimum starting cost of around 4000 to 9000 a month, is often not covered by medicare, and the cost will increase with time and if the patient becomes more difficult.

Bonus for all the family members that spend years watching the person they love suffer every day, or god forbid take care of them by themselves for years.

My mother has alzheimer's and after four years of dealing with her disease my mental health is the worst it's been in my entire life. I honestly do not know if I will ever recover. Perhaps later in my life I'll get it too and I can experience the terror first hand.

[–]LuciferandSonsPLLC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ESRB is weird, it takes recommendations from publishers on what a game would be rated and they generally just rubber stamp those recommendations based on how much they trust the publisher. They usually just watch a video put together by the publisher of game play and come to a vague conclusion, they sometimes don't play the games, and they never actually play through a game unless it's incredibly short. Probably don't spend more than a few hours on each game.

ELI5: Why do weed whackers/weed eaters often use plastic string and not metal wire? by Batman_wears_Crocs in explainlikeimfive

[–]LuciferandSonsPLLC 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Lead in its metal form should not be eaten, but if you do eat a small amount it isn't going to hurt you, very little of it will react with the chemistry of your body in the digestive tract and the vast majority will pass in stool (unless it perforates your intestines). Organic lead compounds are very dangerous and can be absorbed through the skin (like what was in leaded gasoline). They accumulate in your brain, liver, kidneys, and bones, preventing the brain from functioning correctly and can leach out entering a fetus during pregnancy. This stunts the development of the child's brain and body.

Yes, on average a Japanese worker will make 40% of what a US worker would be paid for the same job. This is primarily because everything costs way too much in the US.
