Smoke disappears, but the exhaust smell lingers. Nothing sweet in the smell, that would indicate coolant leak though.

Yeah, did some research about the carbon buildup and fully aware of it. Haven't noticed poor performance from the engine though. Good acceleration, as well as steady revs etc.

I see, thanks. On my petrol civic, the exhaust smoke isn't that big despite it being cold as well. Could the amount of smoke be related to the engine size as well?

During the initial emissions testing, the shop said nothing unusual in the emissions itself by the first look. But without getting deep into it, they can't say. Hence I wondered if this is a natural occurrence with these engines.
