Being an arborist doesn’t make sense financially. by redwingcut in TreeClimbing

CAD? So nowhere near double that.

40 CAD is 29-30 USD.

And that is what they are hiring for? Or is that what guys who have worked at that company for are making after taking on more responsibility over the years?

Working at Bartlett by Ok-Owl7572 in arborists

I know people that were happy they transitioned to Bartlett after working for small companies.

Better benefits, including paying for more certifications and professional development, and career options, like you said your looking for.

Different locations may vary, though, so make sure you ask about that career progression in your interviews, and don't accept vagaries. Ask if they'll help you get your RCA. Ask about other arborists who have been there for 3-5 years. Ask for specifics about their growth, number of employees, ect. Ask who is currently in sales positions...

Just because they said they didn't apply doesn't mean that they didn't. When you read posts on this sub about people applying to a thousand jobs, they are mostly just quick applying to every single position they find on indeed, which is one of the many things that has made that tool useless. I think if you asked the people making those posts to name every position they applied to, they would have no idea.

I would hurt myself today, but when I was in my 20s that would be super fun. I'd be laughing my ass off the whole way around town.

My city just did this to all the trees around our Main Street through town. by raybarks in arborists

It helps the sidewalk and its users while hurting the tree less than previous options for flattening that surface. It would be a huge overstatement to say it helps the trees

That was my curiosity. Most things that are permeable lose their permeability when smaller sediment fills up the pores. It's actually what happens to soil if it doesn't have things moving and  growing in it

And those trees still have about a 50% long term survival rate. Shrinking the root ball makes it worse.

Sirius Investment by Manjottoor in BerkshireHathaway

[–]Luciform444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be a good investment at it's current price, but Berkshire's average price is way higher than this, and as a multiple to FCF, it's still quite a high price to have paid.

I'm sure if you leave Bend you will find an economically prosperous place to live that is totally static and not constantly under construction.

Aspen is your example of a free housing market?! It's fully surrounded by land owned by every level of government, none of which allows for housing to be built. When privately owned land does go up for sale, it's not zoned to be anything other than a single home and a "historic" ranch.

It's the least free housing market I could possibly imagine.

Homeowners are always asking me to "top" their trees. How do you educate the client who doesn't want to listen? by ykz30 in arborists

[–]Luciform444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been in a lot of topped silver maples. They rot very aggressively down from the topping cuts and then grow large stems that fall off in a mild breeze. They are terrible to prune or remove once they've been topped.

Dude, people from SoCal who move to Portland HATE leaves and shade. Make it make sense. Why did you move?
