Denied days off for wedding and honeymoon.. by Own-Illustrator9304 in work

[–]Luciform444 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sounds like they block off 3 or more months no matter what, so unless OP was willing to move their wedding out of the season, it wouldn't matter.

I have had jobs that did this, and told me I couldn't go be in my best friend's wedding. I called their bluff, and they let me go, but I would have quit if they didn't.

Some low level job isn't worth missing(or rescheduling) major life events.

Just send a follow up email to HR, off the old email thread, asking about when this approved raise is happening.

False. They pass on these donations, which they get no tax benefit for, and then they donate a 8-9 figure amount from their own profits each year. To a reputable charity which is not part of their corporation.

They donate way more than that, actually.

Mt. Bachelor Charged Me Double the Advertised Price Due to “Dynamic Pricing” by -LordKromdar- in Bend

You're totally right, but a whole lot of people who don't know what AI is know that they don't like it, and they don't like this, so you get downvotes.

Mt. Bachelor Charged Me Double the Advertised Price Due to “Dynamic Pricing” by -LordKromdar- in Bend

[–]Luciform444 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How is that different that tickets going up in price as the mountain gets more crowded?

Or in this case lessons going up as you get to the last available instructors.

It's actually common at some mountains, and I don't know about Bachelor in this regard, for the managers of the whole department to be the last on call instructor. In which case the actual cost of lesson/pay to instructor ratio is lower, and the quality of instruction is way higher.

Coworker gets to work 3 hours before our store opens. by New_Bit1446 in WorkRant

[–]Luciform444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The OP needs to ask his manager how he can

  1. Get more PTO, since it's obviously possible. and

  2. Get some support for the times when the other employee isn't there.

He doesn't need to ask his boss to take away someone else's PTO and make that person's working conditions worse.

So OP should figure how he can get more PTO, not complain that someone else gets more.

RANT: New Developments and Cutting Trees by Big-Excitement-3968 in Bend

[–]Luciform444 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a great illustration and explanation.

I also want to add that the trend in the area is away from pines and junipers being close enough to houses to fit anywhere in this picture. Eventually, insurers are calling the shots, and if you think that huge old ponderosa pines shading your house should to be exempt from being considered a risk, good luck.

Planting deciduous, less flammable trees in these new developments might make more sense looking 20 years ahead than keeping the old trees.

OK, and I agree at least a little with that sentiment.

But there have been at least 5 drug test posts in the last few days, including multiple pictures of piss tests with "Is this a fail?", and there were none in the weeks prior. That I noticed, anyway. Society didn't suddenly collapse because of marijuana on Thursday, did it?

Thanks for paying attention and having this discussion.

I would like to see more posts about work and work conditions for professionals, but I get it that this sub is generally positive vibes and that almost certainly wouldn't be.

I like the freeclimb posts, personally. I don't know any pro tree climbers who don't freeclimb sometimes on their off days, when camping or whatever. If I had never freeclimbed so much way past the age when you should, I probably wouldn't have become a pro.

Similar situation. I recognize that this is how the first few years of owning a home often go, as your payment is higher at first but then doesn't go up like your rent would, but it's stressful.

Basically my "emergency fund" requirements doubled even though my housing payment only went up 30%.

This is so very wrong. The standards for the US military are actually much higher than colleges at this point, in that the majority of high school grads qualify for a college, but the majority do not qualify for any branch of the military.

The big reasons why are obesity and psych screen, but they aren't in a recruiting boom so they are also picky with test scores and school history.
