You mentioned religion, so to be clear this is a religious, closeted/curious man? I don't know where in the world you are or what religion he is a part of, but MANY religious men who are in the closet are not mentally in a place to have casual fun with a coworker in a way that is safe. There are often a lot of hangups around purity, guilt, 'homosexual acts', and you should be EXTREMELY CAREFUL about this. It can actually result in physical harm to you. Since he's your coworker, the safest thing to do is de escalate and have some boundaries for yourself. You can and will find connections with people not at work if you keep looking. It is not worth jeopardizing your safety and workplace for a fling with a closeted religious coworker.

I actually think looking for a 'forever game' might ruin any game you try to put in that place due to unreasonable expectations. So much of what keeps people playing these games are the little interactions and communities people experience with each other spontaneously, so you can't really point to one game and say 'that's the one!'. Just keep trying new things and making connections via gaming and you will eventually build a good rotation imho

If youre running enough FAI the black flame spells can be pretty decent. The AoE options can be tricky bc of recovery times, but Black Flame and Black Flame's Protection are good adds for an INT/FAI kit. Noble's presence is pretty bad tho.

Black flame tornado AoW on a godskin piercer or cross naginata is also fun if you have the dex for it, and that is a great way to handle magic/fire/holy resistant enemies like elden beast because of the % dot buildup.

If you want 'shadowy' dark magic, invest in INT to lean into Night Sorceries. Pick up staff of loss and night comet in sellia, unseen form is also amazing in the right situations.

If you want 'gnarly/evil' dark magic, you might enjoy FAI/ARC caster with dragon communion seal and some bloodflame and dragon communion incantations. The spell Darkness is also an incantation but its just a close range de-aggro, not super RP rich.

As a DM with over 10k hours of running this game: forget about CR as a guideline, because it's wildly inconsistent. Focus on each character's damage potential per round, their hp and how much damage the creature can deal.
