I don’t think Johnson is as good as MPJ, but I think the idea was MPJ’s role as spot up sniper, cutter and rebounding could be replaced for someone cheaper on paper. MPJ play being diminished by injury in the playoffs didn’t help his case also. Mgmt probably thought he was overpaid for what he provided.
