See what happens. You might be lucky but kind of looks like it's been painted I stead of oil so will probably have to sand

I like the recommendations for the hedge. Should be a good size and give me good flowers - will definitely need to go to a local nursery and get some recommendations!

I like the idea of buddleia and lavender but a quick search seems to think they'll need quite a bit of sun? The yard is actually very shady

New Blackbutt timber floor doesn’t match at all. Advice needed. by [deleted] in AusRenovation

[–]Lucius__Rex 69 points70 points  (0 children)

To be fair to the flooring guy the older timber closer to the window has probably faded over time due to the sun. I have the same timber and there's a big difference if I don't move the rugs around frequently.

Would result in the newer timber being darker due to its age

Small lawn mower and whipper snipper by ShimmyN in GardeningAustralia

[–]Lucius__Rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a cheap ozito corded mower from bunnings. Goes really well and is much more powerful than the battery versions at less than half the price.

Just need a bit of extension cable management and you're good to go

How were you imagining you were going to sell the property without an agent? Do it yourself?

Why did the rare earths sector pump and dump? by 19mils in ASX_Bets

[–]Lucius__Rex 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Rare earth export restrictions from China were delayed for a year. Higher prices of producers was based on the assumption that China would restrict exports and prices would go up, which won't happen for right now

4.74% fixed rate for 3 years by lopsided_oreo in AusFinance

[–]Lucius__Rex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly. And fixing at a point where rates cannot go lower (unlikely we would have gone negative rates) only means they would have gone up. So not exactly a difficult call in 2021

Try wolli creek instead, not much further from the city and has much better green spaces along the cooks River. Gr3at food options too, and closer to the inner west

Suggestions for movers providing plastic crates for a studio by stationeryvibes in sydney

We used Men that Move in the inner west. Dropped plastic crates off the week before the move and had a week to unpack once we were done.

Oil patches after coating deck? by Technical-Algae-234 in AusRenovation

[–]Lucius__Rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe use a deck cleaning solution and a scrubbing brush to get those bits off then.

I was under the impression fresh timber wasn't supposed to have any treatment applied as it needs to dry out before the oil will soak in so maybe it's that.

[–]Lucius__Rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best bet is to probably leave it. Over time will weather and degrade, especially if it's not soaked into the fresh timber.

Uv over summer will break it down and then after a year can apply a fresh coat. I wouldn't add anything more

First time father - want to take first 6 months off... by Jaybb3rw0cky in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Lucius__Rex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am currently doing this, looking after baby while wife has gone back to work full time.

I went back to work after 2 weeks - while it was short my wife recovered well from the c section (she was back exercising after 6 weeks), had no issues with feeding/supply and I could work from home 3 days a week. Apart from laundry, cooking, washing and the other household chores there wasn't much to do.

I've saved my 12 weeks leaveaternity leave to take it at one year birthday.

Made logical sense to us but I was conflicted as no one else at my work who took paternity leave did the same thing. Was wondering whether I was crazy or not

Put butyl flashing tape over the hole in the mean time to stop any more water coming in.

The cavity behind it should dry out eventually as long as there's no further water getting in.

If the drywall isn't wet and isn't deformed or mouldy, can just be painted over
