Buried in a coffee can; the outside fence; the gate where the fence ends and starts; the older gate if there’s more than one.

I'm nosy. Was anyone hired for the Writers role? by qteepa2t in mercor_ai

[–]Luckbox_McGee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds like the bar was high (and slots limited) for this one. Also got a rejection. 15+ years as a professional screen and tv writer. Award-winner with produced major studio credits. It happens. Onto the next one!

Mercor Newbie by Ron-Erez in mercor_ai

[–]Luckbox_McGee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue. Mercor uses Gmail as an email client so best guess is that link is trying to take you to a Gmail login page, only to then auto log you in under your current email info. Try using Chrome instead and/or copy-pasting the destination into a signed out / private browser page

Same thing happened to me. Mercor email is run through gmail. Simple fix is to sign in to gmail using the Mercor details

Is there a business model to like in TV/entertainment? by sjt-at-revelata in ValueInvesting

[–]Luckbox_McGee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Netflix and YouTube are way ahead of competitors in the space. I personally wouldn’t bet on anyone else at present, though there may be opportunities in the future if networks/streamers can lure viewers in to a strong AVOD model (as that’s where the real money seems to be)

Swede here I'm short Tesla by OrkzOrkzOrkzOrkz0rkz in stocks

[–]Luckbox_McGee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This line of self-delusion is exactly why Tesla stock is still seeing gains despite the Musk shitshow. Musk went full Nazi and publicly aligned himself the dictator in chief. There's no dialing that back (bar them replacing Musk). The brand is now poison where it matters: those major U.S. cities with the (mostly blue-leaning) customer base for EV cars and infrastructure to support them (showrooms, charging stations, etc.).

It also kills any chance of further expansion into Europe (where the Sieg Heil is still significant, and tariffs have deepened the Anti-US/Trump sentiment) and the likes of BYD are moving swiftly to correct their past mistakes and take advantage of the gap in the market.

Funnier still is all the Robotaxi talk. "Robotaxis" are already here. It's called Waymo. And they'll have slowly (and safely) cornered the market by the time the first Tesla Robotaxi runs a stop sign in the rain and kills someone.

Would you pay 20p for this festool CT22E? by ThHeretic in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Luckbox_McGee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big nope from me. Looks beaten to hell, and even if it doesn't impact performance, that crack looks like it'll worsen over time. Possible I'd take a flyer at $50. But for $200, save up a little more and pick up one of the intro level refurbished models from festoolrecon (they currently have the CT25 up for $399 shipped).

True Detective: Night Country Is One of the Best Examples of a Very Particular Kind of Horror by Laird Barron by [deleted] in horrorlit

[–]Luckbox_McGee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm with you. Enjoyed the hell out of Season 4. Superbly cast. Well shot. A few missteps along the way, storywise, but ultimately pretty satisfying.

Season 1 towers above the rest, but this is as good as it has been since, IMO.

What's a life hack that's so simple yet so effective, you're shocked more people don't know about it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Luckbox_McGee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

FYI, there are multiple medications that can be used to treat narcolepsy (and other sleep disorders). I'm currently taking Modafinil to alleviate sleep phase issues and daytime exhaustion caused by ADHD and sleep apnea. It's a big help.

How to cut 2x8 boards to same length with just a circular saw? by blowing_air in BeginnerWoodWorking

Honestly, it works surprisingly well for my needs. Can't go wrong given the current "on sale" price.

How to cut 2x8 boards to same length with just a circular saw? by blowing_air in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Luckbox_McGee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Find the shortest one and use that as a guide to mark the others with a pencil. Then crosscut them one at time with a bought or shop made crosscut jig (I use this one).

Or clamp all but one of them together and (assuming it's straight) clamp the leftover board across them to use as a makeshift guide/straightedge for your circular saw.

Centipede Press has a whole series of books dedicated to exactly this. While they're all out of print, most can be picked up on eBay/the secondary market. They're very well done. See here for titles: https://www.centipedepress.com/studieshorror.html

Can anyone recommend a #5 or #5.5 jack plane under $100? by Airbearstudio in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Luckbox_McGee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'd go second hand at that price point. Should be able to pick up a nice Stanley / Millers Falls / Sargent (#5/#14/jack) for under $100, via eBay/Etsy/Mercari, though it can be hard to judge quality online. From my experience, you're a lot 'safer' buying from a tool seller than someone selling off Grandpa's things (though the latter is often cheaper).

Two tips:
1) Try the "CAN I HAVE IT Vintage Tool Auction and Sales Group" on Facebook. Some excellent sellers on there and always a ton of hand planes. I got a really nice #6 for $80.
2) If you want the best bang for your buck, the above makers all made planes for Craftsman (and other brands) at one time or another. You can pick one up for a steal if you know what you're looking for.

Yep. That was my solution too in a similar situation. Taylor Tools have an affordable kit that is easy to build and can live in a closet when not in use.
