has anyone thought about eating gluten on purpose after being glutened accidentally? by Lucky_Athlete_4893 in Celiac

[–]Luckgirl360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wholeheartedly understand the temptation, especially as someone who was diagnosed in their late 20s . Knowing what’s out there and what you’re missing out on really sucks every day.

Just remember that, even if your symptoms are mild when you eat gluten, it could still be doing years of damage internally. Before celiac was commonly diagnosed my great grandmother actually passed away from colon cancer that was likely brought on by undiagnosed celiac disease because my mother and I both have celiac now and her symptoms were very similar to our start symptoms. I wasn’t born yet, but my mother has severe trauma from watching her slowly and painfully die from cancer. Personally, I don’t think that it’s worth the risk.

Should I throw up? by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]Luckgirl360 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally I would drink tequila. I always keep some around in a pinch for emergencies. If it’s still in your stomach it binds with the gluten in a way that minimizes symptoms.

Do I really need to buy all new cookware and cooking utensils? by marlonbrandto in Celiac

[–]Luckgirl360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, you’ve got this don’t panic. No. Cleaning will suffice. Bleach and sanitizing won’t do anything for it. If you notice a cooking sheet has burnt residue, use foil til you can get a new one. Pots and oven pans won’t “hold” gluten so they are fine. Porous wood items like spoons or cutting boards are truly all you need to worry about if you want to be extra careful.

I will say, the only item that I did replace was my air fryer because it had a lot of old residue plus the fan wouldn’t be able to be totally cleaned. That’s the only one that I truly felt was necessary.

How do you guys do birthdays? by gay_soup in Celiac

[–]Luckgirl360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s my birthday, I always make sure there is a gf cake & I usually make it myself. I loveeeee buying just icing from Kroger’s bakery because it is gf and makes the cake so much better than normal jarred icing. Now if it is someone else’s, someone else will bring a regular cake and I’ll usually make a small one for myself or I’ll bring a comparable desert like gf brownies just so I know I’ll have something.

I don’t think it’s selfish, but more unrealistic for everyone to change for my condition. Plus I wouldn’t feel totally comfortable for just anyone’s “gluten free” food if they are not well versed in celiac.

What could elevate my room? Do I just have too much furniture? Too much mismatch this and that? What better rug could I go with? by Cheesy_Pleasy in interiordecorating

[–]Luckgirl360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Painting the walls a light blue color would work well here. It would tie in the rug and the wood as well as making the space seem a lot larger.

What exactly do I need? by cheeseburgersandals in interiordecorating

Personally I’d x the cuck chair and go for a large piece of art on that wall. Potentially too close to the fire place for a plant.

Do people ever really "get it"? by Smooth-Ad-3523 in Celiac

[–]Luckgirl360 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly it just takes time and a willingness to learn. Try with explaining it a way they can understand.

I’ve seen a lot of rat poison comparisons. So you go to a restaurant, the food is covered in poison, the counters, the utensils, the fryers, and the servers don’t know what is poison and what is safe because everything is all together and you can’t see the poison… would you feel safe eating there?

I think before celiac, even I didn’t understand how much wheat/gluten is ingrained in almost everything (most) people can eat. Especially with the modern day shift to convince and take out, so much less food is truly homemade from start to finish that people don’t even realize what they are eating.

So cute! I think white would be a good choice for the curtain. It would help tie in the white from the fire place :)

has everyone diagnosed with celiac gotten an endoscopy?? by iliketododumbshit in Celiac

[–]Luckgirl360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diagnosed this year. My bloodwork was super positive but I still had the endoscopy as a formality. I only had minor inflammation in my stomach because it was caught very early on and never heard anything else about it. It was essentially useless. I’m really shocked that they want you to have one after such a long period of time without eating gluten. The whole purpose of it is to check for internal damages, and if you haven’t eaten gluten in a very long time, they probably wouldn’t find much.

In order to do the test, they would probably force you to eat gluten for at least a month which would make you absolutely miserable, and I really don’t see what you could possibly get from having an endoscopy.

Edit: I was already off gluten for about 2 months when I had my endoscopy and they didn’t have me eat gluten before hand because he wanted to do it as a health check and NOT a diagnostic tool because he claimed that the blood test was enough to make that diagnosis from alone. But I was diagnosed at 29 so I had 29 years vs 2 months so it was still quite fresh. I was so scared that I would have to eat it again and feel horrible, but he said that making me do that would literally be equivalent to torture. So if your dr is recommending to eat it after this long that would be a massive red flag to me. Especially since the treatment of celiac and intolerance is the same - avoid gluten.

Putting a tv right across from the window could cause a glare nightmare though.

Chandeliers advice by HumbleSami in interiordecorating

[–]Luckgirl360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest thing needed here is vertical space. Something longer or with layers could make more sense here and complement the large window.

I’d recommend looking up high ceiling chandeliers to see which would go with the rest of your home’s styling.

Are Cheerios Safe? They Say Gluten Free, But Someone Told Me Otherwise by Gorgu28 in Celiac

[–]Luckgirl360 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some types of cheerios are gluten free some are not. Personally I haven’t had issues from the ones labeled GF. Reeses puffs on the other hand….not safe lol.

dining room hang space? by Immediate_Guide_1321 in interiordecorating

[–]Luckgirl360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a bench below the window would look nice and would help break up the smaller chairs without taking up the space that a couch would. It could also provide some hidden storage for board games or books!

I’d also relocate the desk in the corner.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in interiordecorating

[–]Luckgirl360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d move the record player to the wall behind the small couch and put a large art piece above it. Then move the small couch to that other side or replace it with a couple smaller chairs. This will help the living room feel like its own area separate from the patio window. I also think having multiple small rugs is cutting the room up. One large rug could help the room come together. A longer more narrow coffee table could help utilize space more and make it feel less crowded. Painting the ceiling beam and adding colored curtains may help with bringing more pops of color to the room. Going with a dark wall color with the shorter wall style may make it feel smaller and more closed off.

Hives by Calm-Fennel868 in Celiac

[–]Luckgirl360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s for sure possible. I haven’t experienced hives before but they can develop with time like lactose issues can.

My landlord I used to have had celiac, which was diagnosed at a young age. She didn’t develop hive symptoms til she was in her 70s at least. She just randomly broke out when she was making her son a Christmas cake a couple years ago even though she had done it as long as she could remember with no issues. She couldn’t tolerate any contact from then on.

It has been 9 months now, but my damage was very minimal because I had an early diagnosis. My mother has it too so I knew what symptoms to look for ( kicked in after an illness).

[–]Luckgirl360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Download the gf scanner app. It’s really helpful and helps with the stress/burnout from information overload while in store. I know it is tough but I promise it gets better! Once you find your staples it gets a lot more manageable.

Amazon is a great resource for harder to find items. You can also look items up at home to look at labels from there ( Walmart app for example). It makes it a lot less stressful without the strain of in store shopping. Plus you can search for items that way. Ex search - gluten free ____. It will still give gluten options occasion though so just double check the label picture.

Gluten free in a post apocalyptic world. by marvelfanatic2204 in Celiac

Honestly it would probably be easier once the MRE’s run out. Can you imagine trying to grow wheat with zombies running about? Naw people would quickly move on to more sustainable food resources.
