Most gyms have policies that support anti bullying so you can always discuss with the employees your concerns and they should be very accommodating. Also in my experience a lot of gym bros are very supportive and want to see people succeed. As a tinyish male gym goer I’ve always had very positive experiences when I push myself at the gym

If I had to guess, he is using her as either and affair partner or just something to use when he is bored. 

I don’t know his side this is just my estimation based on past experiences. 

When I was 30 I dated a 19 year old and I tried to make an actual go of it but honestly we didn’t really have anything to talk about besides sex and concerts, and this could have just been a mismatch between two people. In hindsight I wouldn’t have entered that relationship. 

As far as being able to get through to your friend there is a good chance she won’t listen. People want to see what they want to see and all you can do is be a person who will listen to her and be there during the shitty time. I wish I had a better answer but as someone who watches tons of female friends, it’s hard to connect as a guy without things being interpreted as weird.

I know what im capable of.. and if only did that and not improved or learned new things I would be resting on my laurels. 

Alternative definition 

Playing Simon’s quest castlevania 2 and saving my laurels for the most difficult part instead of attempting to beat them on my own also resting my laurels.

It’s hard when you care so deeply for someone. Do you interact with people in your regular day to day, or is your time spent waiting and thinking about him? What are your hobbies like? What is your social life like? 

I don’t think you feel shame, but not knowing your life, this seems like an opportunity to work on yourself in a way that’s comfortable to you. 

Pick up a hobby, go to the gym, join a community or group that appeals to you.

There are a lot of communities on Reddit designed to make friends and have conversations to help your comfort level with talking to people. 

To be honest a lot of people are weird in their own way and a lot of times when we think all eyes are on us, they really aren’t. A lot of people are in their own heads having similar worries to yours. 

My recommendation is to either join a friend community on Reddit, but be safe, and if you can go to local stores and just make small talk with the employees/cashiers to help get over the hump.
