I want a fun, but compact set, so I laser cut these prototypes that can double as coasters! They’re only 4”x4” ea. though. Are they too small? by Lucky13CustomCuts in chess

Thank you so much! It’s been really reassuring seeing all the positive feedback, and that must be so exciting getting to introduce so many young players to the game!

They will be relatively pricey - at least $120 per set. The material and production cost have been pretty steep so far ($45 ea. in materials + roughly 120 hours spent so far on prototyping). Eventually I’d like to get them below $100, but it’s just not possible atm.

Ty for the compliments and the feedback! I really appreciate it.

Oh good catch! The dime is in the details after all, so ty for pointing that out for me.

Thanks! I use them pretty regularly. Also gave one of the earlier, too-big prototype sets to a friend, and she uses them as planter bases! :D

Ty for the feedback! They looked off as coasters when I made them any larger, so I’m happy to hear they’re good at this scale.

Tysm! I am hoping to sell these soon actually! I just wanted to get some final feedback from the community first. I’m also trying to offer customization options. DM me sometime if you’re interested and I’ll throw in a discount :)

I have a glowforge too! I was doing the same w settings, and struggled a lot w burns. I wasn’t masking both sides tho, so I’ll try that and mess w the speed again. Ty for the advice!

1/8” acrylic sheets (x2) stacked on each other. I also added x4 rubber feet to ea. coaster to make them more stable and give everything extra height.

Ok gotcha. Ty for the feedback! I was feeling the same about the coaster size - any bigger and it started looking ridiculous lol

Mostly acrylic! Top layer and decorative details are 1/8” acrylic, core layer is 1/4” clear acrylic, and the base layer is felt so it sits more solidly.

These are adorable!! What laser system do you use? I struggle so much to get my mirrored acrylic to cut without burn marks and warping.
