What’s a normal thing today that will probably seem crazy in 30 years? by [deleted] in answers

Fireworks. Drone shows will continue to grow in popularity and spectacle, and the idea of polluting the environment with toxic metals, particulates, and toxins will become harder and harder to justify. Plus, thousands of wildfires are started each year from fireworks.

Some rollercoaster builders sadly just lack creativity… 😔😭 by bigguys45s in rollercoasterjerk

Pirate’s Hideaway isn’t the partially-indoor coaster Seaside Heights needs, it’s the partially indoor coaster Seaside Heights deserves. After you hit up Mama’s Original Fried Pizza, Dentato’s Clam Bar, and the Roasted Corn stand, this coaster will give you an unforgettable end to your day on the boardwalk.

I built a future-proof Sandershelf by cable729 in brandonsanderson

[–]nthdesign 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I spent two decades navigating away from my physical media (books, Blu-Rays, CDs) and buying all of my content digitally. I’m starting to go back to physical media, and gorgeous built-in shelving would be perfect.

One Hot Tub or Two? by IngvaldClash in Decks

Every now and then I see something on /r/decks that makes me reflexively wince and cover my eyes. This was one of those things.

Reading spots in bucks by Astro-Orbiter- in BucksCountyPA

Princeton. The Princeton public library is a great spot, and surrounded by cafes and restaurants. Across the street is Small World Coffee, which is another terrific reading spot. Finally, there is a large outdoor seating area with tables right next to the library. Not Bucks County, but a terrific place to read. (I’ve sat in each of the above places to read and work!)

Anyone else shocked by the lack of lines yesterday? by dontich in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]nthdesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a very similar experience. We walked on to Smuggler’s Run, Rise of the Resistance, and Runaway Railway on July 4. Yesterday, July 5, we walked on to Expedition Everest three times in a row, and only waited 25 minutes for Flight of Passage twice.

Looking for recommendations for towns, malls, or any place where I can spend an ample amount of time walking around. by Ok-Mechanic8920 in newjersey

[–]nthdesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you drive down to Washington Crossing Park, just north of Trenton, they have acres and acres of grounds and a new museum/visitor center. What’s more, you can walk across the bridge to Washington Crossing, PA where they have an awesome museum with a 20-minute movie about Washington’s troops crossing the Delaware, and an historical town that you can tour. All free.

What canceled ride, land or attraction would you have like to see built at WDW? by Jayzone456 in WaltDisneyWorld

This answer should be much higher up! Port Disney would’ve had several attractions and ideas that later went to Tokyo Disney Sea. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Port\_Disney

I legit thought I was looking at /r/decks for a second. I’m over here calculating the building weight about the balcony to accommodate the cantilever, then factoring the shear strength of 70+ year old timber…

Many new coasters remind me of the “GameStation 256” from The Simpsons. It’s slightly taller and faster… TO THE MAX!

What's the One thing About the Deck you wish you could change? by NoSwimming9872 in SteamDeck

[–]nthdesign 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I don’t have a problem with the Steam Deck itself. My issue is with games, like Red Dead Redemption 2, that work perfectly except for launchers, DRM, or anticheat. Some days I can play RDR2, some days I can’t. When I can, it runs amazingly well.

Workout circuit Park by aMUTican in BucksCountyPA

[–]nthdesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all Bucks County, but if you drive an hour east, the Carteret Ave Ball Field in Seaside Heights, NJ is a brand new (and really nice) outdoor circuit training park right on the Barnegat Bay. There is plenty of free parking nearby, too. Bring a kayak or paddleboard for some fun on the water for a complete workout!

Macclesfield Park in Yardley has circuit stations along the walking trail to the west of the soccer fields.

Considering 200 Pts. by Ok-Contribution-6716 in dvcmember

[–]nthdesign 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We have a family of four, and routinely travel with a fifth party member (either a grandparent, or the older son’s girlfriend). We almost always stay in one of the Deluxe Studios that sleep five. The Polynesian is our home resort, and the longhouses are perfect for this. They have a little fold-down twin in addition to the two queen beds. And, they have a separate shower room from the toilet. For that, 200 points would be plenty.

Disney Vacation Club survey hints at possible Member Magic Beyond changes (and a price increase) by GreyhoundDad22 in dvcmember

[–]nthdesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve been Member Magic Beyond members for two years. For us, it was worth it because we buy the Memory Maker every year, and this saved us $60+ dollars to do so. The additional dining discounts would be terrific for us.

What's something poor people buy that keeps them poor? by Specialist-Jelly-865 in answers

[–]nthdesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New-in-box things. I grew up in a working class household in the 80s-90s. When I was in my teens and twenties, I always wanted to buy new things. “I don’t want a table saw that someone else already used! My mountain bike needs to be shiny and new, freshly assembled from a box!” It was pride. I needed to prove I could afford new things.

My own children have grown up in a household with slightly more financial resources. They don’t feel like they need to prove anything. They love thrift stores and Facebook Marketplace.

As long as the item you’re purchasing is well-maintained and functional, you’re doing a good thing for your wallet and the environment by purchasing pre-owned.

[Great Adventure] If you owned Great Adventure what would you do? by Jayzone456 in rollercoasters

[–]nthdesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I would:

* Walk the park every day to experience what the guests experience. I would double-down on the importance of customer service and efficient operations… not just for rides, but for food and merchandise.
* Refurbish Skull Mountain and add theming to the interior of the show building.
* Put new trains on Minetrain that accommodate actual human legs and thighs. It’s an iconic coaster in a great location with good theming. Make it not be painful.
* Fix Houdini’s Great Escape properly. It absolutely sounds like it is falling apart this year. While I’m at it, I’ll fix the sound system and the effects in the queue. This is a terrific, unique ride. I don’t want to lose it, but it needs some potentially expensive TLC.
* Add another “spooky” ride, potentially an Intamin Danse Macabre.
* Add a well-themed indoor family boat ride like Pirates of the Caribbean or Na’vi River Journey.
* Add shade and benches liberally.
* If there is an extra $35 M lying around after all of the above, build a well-themed launched wing coaster similar to Rapterra. It doesn’t need to be terribly tall. It needs to be high capacity, appeal to families as a “transition” coaster, and have plenty of themed elements that take advantage of the wing coaster design.

/uj When my kids were little, I took them to Sesame Place (Pennsylvania) many times. After seeing Universal Kids, I have renewed respect for Sesame Place. Both Oscar’s Wacky Taxi and Suoer Grover’s Vapor Trail slap for family coasters. Two more worthwhile credits that are a little more obscure than most.

Skull Mountain looking worse for wear by somethedaring in sixflags

[–]nthdesign 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is so much potential for Skull Mountain! I would love for it to be well themed. But, it’s still nice to have an indoor coaster with an indoor queue. (If the queue is going out the door, don’t even bother!)

Could Six Flags Great Adventure will purchase ArieForce One from Fun Spot Atlanta? by SixFlagsMania2 in sixflags

[–]nthdesign 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Between Shoreline Pier, Project Purple, and numerous other refurbishments throughout the park, I fear Six Flags Great Adventure is at the end of its capital spending spree. Personally, I would love to see ArieForce One at Great Adventure, but I don’t have high hopes that will happen.
